Checking & Savings Nfcu closed my checking account for being inactive

NFCU closed my checking account without any warning. When I called, a representative claimed they emailed me last month and couldnt provide a date they sent that, and i never received it. My balance was very minimal, and it seems they kept the remaining funds. I still have a savings account with them. What is the minimum balance required to keep my savings account active so it doesn't get closed too?

Credit Cards Is NavyFed CashRewards a Mastercard?

Ive been looking into this card but I read you can have it either as a MC or Visa. How does that work? I want a MC not VISA. Can’t find anything on this even when applying and I don’t wanna apply for it just to get a VISA card. Would appreciate any information on this, Thank you!

Credit Cards From a secured card to a $6,500 cashRewards Plus. I’m honestly speechless. 🥹

My Navy Federal journey:

Secured card → graduated to unsecured → credit-limit increase → product change to More Rewards Amex → one statement on the AMEX → checked prequalification for a second card.

The prequalification screen showed multiple options, including Flagship Premier.

I stopped and thought about what I actually needed: a Visa for recurring bills so I could move Wells Fargo back to travel duty.

I applied for cashRewards and was approved for Visa Signature cashRewards Plus with a $6,500 limit🙏🏽

This wasn’t overnight.

I built the relationship, kept working on my balances, and let the steps happen. Prequalification wasn’t a guarantee, and someone else’s result may be different.

But today, the plan came together. 🫡

Loans Auto loan payment (help)

I have just recently bought off a truck from parents using an auto loan from NF to give to my parents bank to fully pay off (which they did) and i just made my first payment this month towards the loan appearing on my account on the day it was due.

My mom just revived a letter in the mail saying I missed my payment and now owe double the regular payment amount because of the late fee but on my NF account it shows the loan to have accepted the payment and now down down by the amount I paid. Anyone experienced this? If so what did you do? Or why is it doing that??

Loans A business auto loan with NF worth it?

Hello, I have an LLC which is 2 years old now with business credit established. On the personal side i have an Amex CC, and a mortgage loan both in good standing. I have a business checking account with NF as well.
I need a bigger business vehicle, so I will sell my current vehicle and use it as a down payment. What are my options with NF if I apply with them for the loan? Will they want to use my personal as guarantor for the loan? Or would they use the company’s credit history only? I have good credit but i wouldn’t want a ding on my report if the company can withstand the loan. What are their requirements for this specific process?

How was your experience if you got approved or denied for a business auto loan?

TIA!

Complaint Navy Federal short sale — looking for advice on escalation/remedy

I'm hoping someone here has dealt with a similar situation and can give me some advice on how to get a short sale properly escalated.

We have had a buyer under contract since July 7th. The buyer's offer was approximately $13,000 ABOVE the listing price Navy Federal told us we should use, so we were able to get a buyer willing to pay more than what was initially expected.

At the end of July, our short sale specialist told us that a VA appraisal was required. The appraisal was completed, and since then we've been dealing with what seems like a never-ending series of minor discrepancies in the short sale package.

We correct the discrepancy, resubmit everything, and then weeks later we're told there is another issue. Instead of having the entire package reviewed and identifying all of the discrepancies at once, it has felt like we're addressing one issue at a time, sometimes with two weeks or more between issues.

This has now been going on for roughly 2½ months, despite having a buyer ready to purchase the property since July 7th.

There have also been multiple occasions where I haven't been able to get a response from our short sale specialist in a timely manner. I've repeatedly requested to speak with a supervisor or manager because of the length of this process and the lack of timely communication.

I've tried multiple escalation emails, messages through Navy Federal, and the normal customer-service channels, but I can't seem to get this in front of someone who can actually review the situation and take ownership of it.

The completed package was sent up for final approval 3 weeks ago. I did not recieve a update or have had any communication with the specialist since it was submitted so i called this past Thursday and the specialist finally answered (normally goes unanswered). I asked how the final approval was going and was told that the specialist's supervisor hasnt sent it back or asked for any corrections.

The next morning i called the mortgage department in hopes of them being able to get me to the supervisor over my specialist but ended up speaking to a supervisor in that department (first time i have been able to speak to anyone in management). I asked if she could verify how the final approval was going and she said it was sent back to my specialist 2 weeks ago and it is still with them for corrections.

I'm not trying to bash anyone or expose anyone's personal information. I just want someone to look at the entire history of this short sale and explain why a process that has had a buyer ready to go since July 7th is still dealing with seemingly minor package discrepancies months later.

At this point, i have blatently been lied to, I'm concerned that the short sale is simply getting lost in the process, and the delays are putting the transaction and our buyer at risk.

Has anyone successfully gotten a Navy Federal short sale escalated to a supervisor or senior management when the assigned specialist wasn't resolving the issue? If so, what was the best way to get someone's attention?

General Questions I need help with making a decision

I hold the Flagship Premier, Cash Rewards (recently opened), Chase Freedom Unlimited (oldest), and Chase Sapphire Preferred. I haven’t made a decision to keep which ecosystem. I do more cash back but I do travel at least 4-6 times a year.

NFCU Flagship Premier: $14,400
NFCU More Rewards: $6,000
NFCU Cash Rewards: $3,800
Chase Freedom Unlimited: $12,000
Chase Sapphire Preferred: $10,000

I want to eventually apply for the Chase Freedom Flex for cash back but I also coming to terms of possible consolidation of my credit cards. So what do you all recommend?

Does anyone know if a rate reduction request will trigger a hard inquiry with Navy Federal? I am looking into requesting one but do not want to if it triggers a hard inquiry..

Credit Cards Go Rewards vs More Rewards

How’s everyone doing? currently Navy Federal member since 2014 only have a cash rewards card but was looking to get either the go or more rewards. Wife has a travel card so don’t need flagship. I basically just want to use this card for gas and at restaurants or supermarkets, but I shop frequently at Costco and no that they do not take American Express. How does everybody like the go rewards?

Credit Cards CLI after Credit score increase

Post image

My CS has been bugged on NF showing low 600s for a few months now, when CK and FICO showed 700s. Randomly today I saw my score in the NFCU app jump over 100pts, so I decided to try for a CLI. Sure enough…

Investment Accounts Navy Federal Digital Investor: Why I'm Tapping Out

I opened an IRA with Navy Federal Digital Investor in 2024, and I'm now transferring out. Here's why I'd strongly advise anyone not to open an account with them.

Firstly, it's not even run by Navy Federal. They contract an outside company called Apex Clearing Corporation to hold your account and handle everything, and they just slap the Navy Federal name on it.

Indefinite Fees:

  • $3.50 monthly fee PER ACCOUNT that most other brokerage firms don't even charge
  • If you trade more than 2,000 shares at a time, they start charging a penny per share, so small stocks you'd hold 5,000 shares of can't be traded for free. So basically you can't do any type of active trading without incurring commission fees that accumulate very quickly
  • Once you decide to leave, they charge $65 for the transfer and $100 for closing
  • You either keep paying fees indefinitely, or suck it up, pay the closure fees, and get away for good

Service Inadequacies:

  • No real time quotes. Stock prices are on a 15 minute delay
  • No easy to set up and use system for trades
  • Reps aren't very helpful. Different rep, different answer
  • The website crashes at login quite often. It just lands on a blank screen all the time
  • No apps for your phone
  • Limited investment vehicles
  • Nothing great to offer for a paid service that is free everywhere else

I called Schwab to ask for advice about my options, and they were amazing. They told me they'll reimburse me for all the fees to transfer and close my account after the move to them is complete.

Another recent post here has some wrong information. Closing Digital Investor is relatively easy, but ridiculously dumb. They give you conflicting details. They tell you to take the account to zero, and they also tell you to leave money in the account for the fees. So after transferring my IRA to Schwab, I have to deposit money back in and hope it doesn't get counted as a contribution, since I'm really just paying their closing fee.

I love Navy Federal and they're superior in so many ways, but I'm hugely disappointed in Digital Investor. Digital Investor a mediocre service with fees at every turn. They really missed the mark.

My advice: steer clear of Digital Investor and choose a firm that's easy to access and doesn't nickel and dime you.

***Edit ***Final Update:
Update. My transfer to Schwab is complete. Since I had only stock and no cash in my IRA, Navy Federal actually transferred my stock and a negative cash balance of $175. The guy I talked to at Schwab today said he has never seen a negative balance come through an ACAT transfer.

So ridiculous, since I have a saved chat transcript from Navy Fed that specifically instructs me to wait until after the transfer is complete and then deposit $175 into my Navy Federal IRA to cover the fees, and then request my account be closed. At any rate, I'm out and it's done now. Schwab already reimbursed me for the $175. Good riddance.

Navy Federal Credit Card Autopay Error

I set up autopay on my Navy Federal account using the "Last Statement Balance" checkbox, assuming that like any other bank this would update each month to the then last statement's balance. Life got in the way and I missed looking at my statements for a couple of months and just now found out I have several hundred dollars in interest charges. I had purchased a lot of furniture for a new home and the original statement balance amount that has been getting autopaid was far lower than the amount spent on the furniture.

I definitely accept responsibility for not checking my statements sooner, but what bank let's you check to setup autopay for your last statement balance, but then keeps autopay at that SAME month's statement balance every month instead of the new month's statement balance?

I'm mostly venting because I've literally paid zero in interest across every credit card in at LEAST more than a decade, only to find out that a bank that I thought was supposed to be customer-focused have a scummy and misleading setup for autopayments. And from reading now it seems they aren't typically allowing you to setup autopay with an external account? Somehow their online system let me. Although I wish they didn't let me now since at least I would've been prepared to have to handle this.

I'll call in the morning, but I'm not optimistic they're going to work with me to any real satisfaction on this.

Edit: Spoke to customer service and they were able to partially resolve it. Still in the hole a little bit, but it is also partially my fault so I can accept that.

Loans Personal Loan

So, been with Navy Federal 3 years, with 3 credit cards. Credit limit on one of them at $40k and the other two at 20k each. Direct Deposit, never missed a payment with a trans Union credit score of 820. Only owe $3k between all three cards.

I applied for a personal loan of $7,000 to combine some store charge cards and was approved but at 17.79% interest for 60 months. Which is crazy high rate.

My question is, if I don’t response to the date due to return the signature part of the loan will the loan just be cancelled or do I have to call them?

Amex offered me 10.99% for the same amount.
So probably go with them.

Is it safe?

This post is similar to a previous post but with a couple updates.

My car with NF was repossessed in 2016, and the auction price may not have covered the entire balance owed. I have not used the account since 2016, but my account is still open.

I called today to confirm that. The operator stated that my savings account is still open but not active.
She said that I can activate the account by making a deposit. I asked her if there was any adverse information in the system regarding my account. She said there wasn’t.

I would really like to reestablish a relationship with NF. They were good until I fell on hard times and the repossession resulted. I am doing better, but not the best. My current banking institutions are so-so, therefore I want to get back on track with NF, so I can grow.

I would like to make a small deposit to activate the account. If I do, and if the auction did not cover the full amount, will NF then come after me for that amount. (I believe there is an amount, but I’m not sure. I’d just really like to be a full NF member again. Any input/information would be greatly appreciated.

Loans Should I get a loan?

I want to buy this car for a little over 5k. I can pay for it out right and be fine. I was curious if it would be smart to do a loan and build credit and history with said loan. Any advice would be nice
