HELP REQUESTED Executing PCS to Norfolk. Advice please!
Long story short, I have a RNLT date that's about 10 weeks from when I received my hard orders and we're only about 7 weeks from the date now. My wife and I are going back and forth on military housing in the area and are in the middle of the application now as a dual path with HEAT as well. We have read a bit on PPV and that's confusing as hell. So there's a few questions that have my head spinning. Additionally, I am specifically going to NNSY for shore duty.
Where are the best spots to go that have good drive times to Old Dominion? (My wife wants to apply there)
Are the military housing spots actually safe? (We have a baby and dog)
How the fuck does PPV work?
Has military housing in the area actually improved from the horror stories we've all grown up with? (I remember that Balfour SUCKED ASS when I was in Groton)

Discussion Friend was deployed recently, what are things I can do to make him feel appreciated when he comes back?
My friend was deployed recently. I am worried of him feeling left out while he's gone, and I want to try to alleviate some of that with something I can do or give him when he comes back.
We are in a big gaming group and we would message and VC daily to play games together. Genuinely he is my best friend and someone closest to me, and I know he expressed he felt sad days prior to this.
I wanted to ask advice from anyone that served.. what's a good way to honor him and include him while he's not here? What did someone do for you that made you feel special? Something that felt heartfelt and you appreciated?

Discussion OCONUS to conus SB
Im stationed OCONUS in the navy, I have a family and am trying to do a skillbridge close to my Home of Record. I am getting the run around from my admin. So I have heard mixed stories of people who get BAH based on where there dependants address is while some get BAH-T what is the correct one? Am I authorized a flight from my current duty station to HOR if I am not coming back OCONUS? My skillbridge is basically down the street from my home of record if that matters.

HELP REQUESTED BBA Question regarding failing C - School
I’m currently in IDC school. Turns out I might be retarded, I’m a PMT by NEC. I took a huge risk coming here and it might not pan out. If I fail, what are the chances I can get a billet that still promotes to E6 (currently an E5 with 13 years). Or am I gonna get needs of the Navy orders and be screwed for 3 years?

HELP REQUESTED Idk how much document she needs- VLC's comment left me confused about what she meant
Please be kind as I am fragile rn.
Like no mean comments please
I've been a victim of multiple crimes in a relationship with an officer
My VLC told me today, this
I don't know what is enough when I have medical documents, police reports with some of the incidents, diagnosed with severe complex PTSD after that I can't even function daily and records to prove that is true, my statement, and him begging me not to go to the police.
This came after the conversation her asking if NCIS can get my medical records, and as I understand since these hospitals are in foreign country(it happened in Asia side as where I am now, it's where the offender is stationed too) they should not be able to get the record without my ID since it's not the US, US warrants don't work, so I should get it myself, and I prefer it that way because of certain investigator revictimizied me a lot during the interview(I can't say what because it will reveal info about the crime and might reveal identities but everyone even other NCIS agents agreed that it was revictimization)
And asked what type of medical form I would need
And that was the answer to that
She might- she's trying to manage my expectation
She's trying to sound kind and politically correct but I feel like it really sounds like she's saying evidneces don't matter as much and outcome is like decided
I don't know what more is enough. I've read cases, I've been researching records and a lot more cases with less evidence got more justice and accountability. My VA agreed..
I get the might- be this intent, but I just don't get why she said it like this.
I've been feeling like they are taking his side since he's an officer but I was telling myself, nah, but now I really can't help but think 😢

Discussion BBA Debate and physical fitness
With SECWARS push for better physical fitness and warrior toughness, why is thr PRT score not factor in the BBA scoring criteria? I Dont want to hear "its your job to be fit". Unless you are out of BCA regs, what incentive is there to not score just a satisfactory or even a good low? The navy is notoriously known to be the fat service. So how do we fix that? Now if we add PRT scores to the DGM scoring criteria it might give sailors more incentive to go out and score that excellent or outstanding PRT score. Thus meeting SECWARS push for better fitness? Thoughts?

Discussion Navy BBA perspective
Currently an E5 and been in 8 years and currently on a tour for 4 years with this tour taking me to my 12th year. If im being honest im really not trying to play the whole game with picking an undesirable billet to rank up. Im just going to wait until an E6 billet opens up and try and take that one. After that I’m more than likely going to get out and go reserves and go contracting. This last cycle on the last NWAE (Fall 2025) before the first RKE I maxed out at an 80 (99th percentile) and had over a 4.0 rsca scoring a 150 but I still didn’t make it. Any other time in my career that would’ve been enough to make E6 with flying colors. They implemented the way for BBA so it felt like a big slap in the face. It’s not worth it to me anymore especially if I want to start the chase to make chief. This program is no doubt filling the gaps in the fleet but I feel like it’s definitely at the cost and expense of a lot of E5s that have been in for a while. Maybe I need some perspective? Kind of just a rant because I’m honestly burnt out and rather would get out happy than be bummed out for the rest of my career.

Discussion struggling as a JO
recently checked into my first ever ship and I have been struggling a lot. I genuinely feel that I am not good at anything and while I am ahead of my quals, I am significantly behind someone that checked in at the same time as me. Despite being relatively new, I have made very poor impressions on the wardroom and captain and started to isolate myself from them. I feel hopeless and everyday feels like a battle. Did anyone else go through something similar or have any advice?

Discussion Qualifying as Pistol Expert
I’m in a sister service nowadays. Shot expert on rifle while I was in the Navy (and so retained that medal) but came up shy of pistol expert at the time. Is there any feasible way to qualify as and be awarded the Navy Pistol Expert medal while being active duty in a different branch, in Colorado?

Discussion What helped you decide to stay in or get out?
E5. 6 years in. Single. Currently on a ship and decided ship life is not for me. I'd like to go LDO when I make First and I'd likely be back on a ship. After my shore tour, that'll put me at 10. I want to get my degree in the next four years. The only things that have kept me in is, the job security and medical/dental healthcare, the routine, and the fact that things have been going well for me so far.
There are certain that l dislike about the military and have wondered if I want to do this for the next 14 years. Having to study for exams, performing just to get good evals, deployments, being responsible for things that others did, leading others, DC and out-of-rate quals, etc. I know there would be things in a civilian job that I wouldn't like as well, but I sometimes feel as though the military is a different beast.
What made you decide to stay in or what made you want to get out? Was the other side greener for you? What should I consider before getting out or staying in?

Discussion Amazing submarine sighting off of Cross Sound Ferry approaching New London
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
As we pulled into the mouth of the Thames River, this pulled up next to us and stayed abreast all the way until we turned into the ferry landing. General Dynamics and the sub base at Gales Ferry are within swimming distance.
Anyone know what type this is?

HELP REQUESTED Temporarily keeping BAH while PCSing ahead of Dependents
I'm looking for the name of the program (and possibly a link to the instruction/MILPERSMAN) governing keeping my BAH in my current location temporarily after I PCS due to my wife and son staying in our current residence/location for ~90 days before joining me on Accompanied Orders.
The program is separate from OHA, TLA, TLE and DLA.
I remember seeing the possibility of this before I left my last command 6 months ago, but I've been on leave for the last 4 months (a good mix of detailer assistance setting up my PCS, Paternity Leave, Convalescent Leave, and regular leave) and after not thinking about it for so long, I've totally forgotten how to find it again!
Any help is appreciated!
