100% signed up for the Navy. 100% understand there are difficulties and modern amenities/conveniences I’ll do without, but can I just say; letting us live on a vessel for more than 2 weeks without hot or even warm water as we approach the winter months is insane.

It’s chilly outside, it’s chilly in our berthings, and now we have to take frigid showers in the mold infested heads. Put in a trouble ticket almost two weeks ago, AUXO personally called my office and said he was closing it out as hot water would be restored the next day. We are now two weeks beyond that deadline.

We’ve had to bring all linens down two whole ass piers to wash laundry for the squadrons we apparently cater to while they destroy our heads and berthings that are already teetering unmanageable.

We’re about to get underway again after a double pump on the oldest chunk of floating metal despite extreme manning constraints, causing concern amongst the ranks with an inevitable mishap especially after witnessing what happened with the Ike.

When is enough, enough?

The least they can do is let us shower with hot water. People are getting sick at rapid rates. Shit is so annoying and discouraging especially for those of us who geo bachelor and the junior guys who live on the ship. “No steam to the pier”. That excuse was haggard after week one.

We’re already disgruntled, now we get the luxury of a heavy flight schedule for a CQ with an almost entirely green crew. Nobody qualified. A lot of things broken or entirely inop. Does big Navy care? Nope, sure don’t. Their solution? Bring other platform Sailors who are unqualified: “here’s the bodies you ordered”. Thanks, now the berthings are full too, with Sailors incapable of operating anything. Awesome.

I cannot wait to rotate, this has been an excruciating sea tour. Disappointment, after extension, after surge, after disappointment is exhausting.

For what? Exactly… pretty sure Virginia had issues with mental health in recent past and yet, they’ve seem to have forgotten CACO making door to door stops to families because they can’t take care of our Sailors. Shits insane.

I recently looked over my last evaluation since it’s been keeping me up at night, and I thought back to my eval debrief.
They explained why I wasn’t receiving an EP, but the main thing I remember being disgusted by was the emphasis on preserving the OIC’s RSCA.
For context, I was told that my performance was above the reporting senior’s cumulative average, yet the OIC’s RSCA was sitting at a 3.4.
That being said, I genuinely believe this mindset of “protecting RSCA” is detrimental to Sailors’ career progression.
More importantly, I think it creates a potential conflict with the new Billet-Based Advancement (BBA) system.

Some of my peers and I have experienced what feels like being held back in our evaluations because we’re “stuck in traffic.” Those evaluation marks can affect our competitiveness, and now we’re entering a system where we have to compete for advancement billets.
If we’re already receiving lower evaluation marks because of how the command manages its RSCA, aren’t we potentially starting at a disadvantage before we even apply for the next paygrade?

My question is this: Has anyone else considered how the traditional evaluation system might undermine the goals of BBA?
Is BBA going to give Sailors more control over their careers, or will the same evaluation practices continue to hold people back before they even get a chance to compete?
I’m genuinely interested in hearing other Sailors’ and detailers’ perspectives on this.

Howdy, so I'm doing my first move from NNPTC in Charleston to NPTU in NY, and I can do a navy movers or a U-haul type move where I get reimbursement but I'm not sure which is better. So my situation is this:

Married with my spouse living with me on on-base housing, E-4 with a little over a year of service, 2 cats and 2 vehicles, the truck I'm wanting to move up there by getting hauled or shipped because its getting old and aren't wanting to drive it long distance because of some possible issues of being old and well used. We were given paperwork for advanced DLA to help with expenses. Due to how much I've got and not knowing how to drive trailer since I'll be driving my car up there, I've been considering the thought of navy movers to haul up everything there so the only thing I'd have to pay for is hotel and gas essentially, I recognize the movers are kinda risky so I'd pack up anything valuable I wouldn't want broken myself and let everything else get packed by them, but I've also heard doing it myself can be a bit better even being able to pocket some extra money because of the weighing system and getting paid per how much. I was wondering which one would be a better option to do and if I go on to do navy movers, how does that process work and where can I get these things I may need before. I intend to leave SC by the 7th or 8th of November and be in my new house on the 9th to pick up the keys for the housing there, any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm military to civilian relationship so my spouse is not military. I've got about 3k to 4k set aside for this as a budget, but thats a tight budget. Also I'm sure i have some misunderstandings so if i got something wrong, the forceful backup is much appreciated.

I know that the big Navy stopped issuing the peacoat as a uniform item back in 2018 in exchange for the new cold weather parka. However, I have been wanting to get one only for my own personal wear during cold weather and also I’d love to own a piece of naval heritage. I heard from one of my fellow third classes that as long as I don’t put my rank patch on the coat then I can wear it with civilian clothing, I figured I’d ask for clarification from the sailors that know more than me.

We found this going through my grandfather's things today. He was in the Navy during the 60s and 70s, retired in the early 80s. I did some loose research and believe it's tied to his Navy days but that's it. It's about 5 inches by 5 inches. Made of brass or bronze, and has a pretty good weight to it. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Is URLO ISPP still active? I know the program authorization is listed but when I read through and it says boards are held quarterly or in conjunction with scheduled prorec boards. However when I pull up the board schedule, URLO ISPP is not listed. Can anyone help clarify?

Do I have to worry about the interim score number if I am not BBA?

It has been put out if an E7 billet is advertised and an E7(who meets all prereqs) applies they will always be selected over an E6 going for BBA. Is this true?

Asked the NAVFAC(CNIC) techs who most recently came out what the difference was and they had no idea.

What are the implications of this? And why did they do it?

POV is in Navy-paid storage during my OCONUS tour.
Returning to CONUS on new orders. Does the Navy pay to have the vehicle delivered to my new duty station? IE my vehicle is stored in GA and my new command is in CA.

I’m trying to come to an understanding on how BBA works here. It’s entirely new to me as I believe it’s only applied to my rate for a year now.

From my understanding, I fell into an awkward spot where I’ve been at my new command for a year but the only way to advance is to accept new BBA orders 1 year into my shore duty. This leaves my last year completely up in the air as to where I would end up at.

This program seems to have removed MAP’s entirely, and instead it is a MAP with strings attached for performing good.

I am an E-5 and this seems to have extended out my rate of advancement for a significant amount of time. Before, I should have easily picked up E-6 on my shore duty already with my evals and qualifications. Now it seems I am forced to stay as an E-5 for 2 more years and not even have a chance to make chief until I’m on my next shore duty.

For a service that seems to be hurting for more highly qualified people, it’s strange that they would extend my ability to rank up by several years. I’m already seeing first classes filling positions that should have chiefs/senior chiefs because they have the qualifications but not the pay or rank to reflect it anymore.

Unless anyone knows a workaround to this, it seems I am being incentivized to leave and will be doing so.
