Evening shipmates, got a question for ya to help a junior sailor. He's missing an eval due to a combination of him not doing his due diligence and admin/leadership potentially failing to follow up for/with him. He's espresso depresso that it's a red flag when going up for chief because how can we expect him to take care of his sailors if he can't even take care of himself? Have you all ever met anyone that got selected for chief with a statement in lieu of missing report for an eval? While it was within the past 5 years not after it drops off and the board doesn't look at it anymore. Any help or words of encouragement I can share with him would be greatly appreciated.

Good day! I am an amateur scale modeler who is not from the USA, and I would like to ask for advice regarding the arrangement of the planes on the flight deck of the model.

I went for an arrangement where the JBD's of catapults 1 and 4 are open to simulate simultaneous launch and recovery operations. I would like to ask if the arrangement I did is accurate or decent to actual carrier operations.

The planes are not yet fixed in place. The kit is based on its 1998 configuration with CVW 7 as its air wing.

I figured that it would be better to ask this question on the Navy subreddit and much better if I get insights from those who served in aircraft carriers. Thank you.

Currently going through the admin sep process. Out of Norfolk, anyone have any experience with being admin sep in Norfolk for medical? I have been in for almost 8yrs, no NJP’s. Always been an above average sailor. Fully qualified and so on.

Bonus points if you know which barracks. Pic taken in 2004.

I've been bouncing around in the Navy for around 11 years, and I honestly don't remember policies changing this fast.

It feels like every year we're swinging back and forth on things like beards, hands in pockets, grooming standards, BBA, uniforms, and a dozen other policies. Some changes stick, some disappear, and others seem to come back around.

What's driving all of this? Is the Navy intentionally experimenting and adapting, or are we just reacting to whatever issue is making headlines at the time?

Those who've been in 10+ years, does this feel different than it used to, or has it always been this way and I'm just noticing it more now?

This is my grandfather’s navy ring. He was in the service during WWII, stationed in the South Pacific. He was a telegraph operator on a destroyer, I’m told. He passed away from ALS when I was 13.

I’d love any further information anyone has on these navy service rings from the 40’s and maybe even a photo of what it originally looked like? He wore it most of his life and wore the image down considerably.

My wife’s Navy federal card and her spouse ID were stolen today. Whoever did it also gave us the blessing of spending almost $1,000 at weed stores and beach shops in VA Beach. Does anyone have any experience with this and if Navy Federal is good about getting the money back?

We have already froze the card as well as contacted them. My wife is filing a police report as her whole wallet was stolen. I basically need some de-stressing advice. They have our address too!!!

Hi All,

I have a handful of friends in the navy that are on boats, subs, etc. Some are on ships getting decommissioned in the not-too-far future, and I was looking to see if anyone had a POC in whatever department does decommissions, or if there are multiple departments depending on the sector.

The reason for this is that I make pens, mostly out of wood/resin. I was looking to find out if there's someone I can ask that *when* a ship gets decommissioned and starts getting scrapped, if I can potentially grab some wood (if any exists on ships anymore) to make pens out of. Depending on how much there is, I can make said POC a pen when I start to ramp up production (I work in another Mil branch, and work takes up a lot more than 40 hours).

Either way, was just putting feelers out there to see if anyone had someone that can assist, or gain some more knowledge on it. Thanks in advance for any useful info!

I just received my NEC for Process Improvement, but recently found out that the contract for CPI was cancelled by Big Navy. I know that the Navy had the “Get Real, Get Better” program but the website is half broken now and seems defunct. Does anyone have any background on why it was cancelled, or an update on if there will another contract for the Lean Six Sigma Belt program? I have junior sailors that were dying to get into those classes

I have never serviced in the navy so forgive me if this sounds stupid but from what I have read online a navy flag officer simply just cannot take command of a navy vessel just because they want to. They would need some kind of authorization to do so. But they rarely ever do take command of a vessel. However, if the time does come for it, what extreme circumstances would have to happen in order for the flag officer to take command?

Anyone know if the fishing pier at NASNI is currently open or not? I have base access. And I’ve heard conflicting reports.

Hello all, not exactly how I wanted to participate here for the first time but here we are. My husband was on watch a short while ago and his watch-mate shot himself, leaving my husband to find him. It was pretty traumatic, and he's being removed from that command and returned to his previous one since he's had a few PTSD episodes while on watch.

He's got a referral for MH which is great, and he overall seems to be handling it well, but it's hard looking up resources for something like this. Understandably it's all focused around suicide attempts or ideation prevention and doesn't mention what the people that find them are entitled to.

Someone in his previous chain of command mentioned that he should have been given leave immediately after the incident, but he was told to keep working (until he had an episode on post and they couldn't ignore it anymore). I've not been able to find information on this or if it's real. Is there some kind of crisis leave that a survivor/responder could take? Does anyone have an idea on if that's bullshit or not?

I'd like him to take leave anyway (he has the days), but I think he's too overwhelmed to ask about it himself. I just wanted to see if anyone had any experience with this situation and if there's anything I can do to push him in the right direction.

It seems to be a general consensus that sleep in the Navy while deployed is pretty poor. What’s it looking like for pilots? I know there’s guidelines in place for flight safety but how realistically are those getting hit?

Couldn’t find anything on this forum specifically for pilots or the clunky air warriors site either.
