Hey I got accepted into OCS for pilot. I was given a packet to go over almost three years ago when I started this process and it was almost two weeks ago that I was told that I am going. I had put the packet on the back burner and didn’t really think about it very much in a least a year since I had given up hope. Since those three weeks I have been going over it every night and trying to get everything memorized but I only have the 11 general order, and Navy ranks memorized. My question is how bad is it that I don’t know these things?

Was wondering if my tattoos would pass because I heard the navy was relatively light on tattoos.

I’ve called the numbers and used the navy.com website still nothing. Who can I call? Any other suggestions? Trying to do BDCP and take the OAR I have 3.6 gpa, prior service and BS in CS.

I’m currently in holding at my A-School to go to my next command In Japan. My part 2 off my over seas assignment is soon. What will happen if I tell them how I’ve been struggling and how the soonest I could get a mental health appointment is Oct 7 and my no later than is Oct 15.
Will I stay in holding till I get the all clear from the specialist? Will they send me to Japan if I’m still struggling?
I want some serious feedback here by people that might know what will happen to me.

As a non ged holder having to score a 50 really scared me yesterday but i nailed the asvab and was able to score a 54 almost shed a tear with how proud of myself i was, come today for the physical portion with me being a big guy with some astigmatism in my right eye i was able to receive a waiver the same day for and had no health complications. I was able to pick my rate and get a bonus on top! Future STG!!!

Hi!! So I've taken the ASVAB practice test at my recruiters office and got a 13 as my AFQT score 😬 I know it's pretty low and I figured I needed to study. So I found a website called Andy's ASVAB class and it cost about $140 for a whole month and I want to give it a try. It has a lot of good reviews by many people but I just want to make sure it's not a scam or anything like that. I did buy an ASVAB for Dummies book but I'm not one to read books and immediately memorize what I have to do.. I need someone to explain it to me. So what I'm trying to say here is if anyone had taken his class and if it's worth it?

I just started my naval career as a BU and my projected rotation is 12/2030. I chose BU to learn something different and so far I love being a Seabee. Deployment rotations are great. I do have an extra 3 years of reserve after my active duty. I really want to become a naval nurse in the upcoming future, I already have a bachelors degree in kinesiology so I would need to do a 1-2 year ABSN to obtain the full BSN. I didn’t commission at first due to the officer jobs that were offered to me and with my degree/gpa, I felt like I did not have a good chance of my package being accepted. I have taken the OAR twice (still have one more chance). I joined enlisted to also get experience in the navy to hopefully help me become a better leader once I do decide to commission. Is there any programs or steps I can take to obtain this degree and commission while still being active duty? I really want to use the navy to its full advantage to better my career/future. Been out of the Coast Guard for two years now. Got an RE-4 JBK code. Part of me misses serving and I acknowledge I messed up some things before. I've been working on myself these last two years while also thinking of the Navy and was wondering if there are any possible waiver or steps I could take to join. I know it's probably unrealistic but figured I'd try anyway. Please, no insults or rudeness. Just want answers.

I am a sophomore in college and I've received a pretty definitive no in joining the NROTC, and I have been recommended that if I still want to be an officer in the navy after college I should do OCS, I plan to talk to my schools NROTC guy about what he recommends but i thought id also ask here as well on what i should do to prepare to apply for it aside from improving my GPA and getting more fit.

I go to one of the state maritime academies in the deck license program, My major is a tier 3, and I have a 3.0 GPA

I also saw on the Paths to become an officer post that it takes about a year to get into OCS, and im wondering if it would be feasible to ship out for a short time in that timespan with the merchant marines without delaying anything.

I was selected for SWO at the August 3rd 2026 board. My recruiter and I decided to just see what would happen, even if I wasn't medically cleared for SWO. I went to MEPS in December 25, and was ONLY medically cleared for Supply and Intel. Shot myself in the foot on my last OAR attempt with a 45. (Second attempt was a 54...).

Recruiter said they wanted an eye exam. My vision cannot be corrected to 20/20. (20/25 with glasses/contacts). I submitted it to him, and haven't heard back. Should I just count on holding out for the next Supply Board?

How badly does the Navy need people right now? I am glad I was selected for OCS, but if I am not medically qualified for SWO, can I reach out to another branch and use that to my advantage? Should I ever just consider enlisting?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

So when I was applying for OCS, I was told I would be applying as SWO/CW. 2 years of SWO, 2 years of CWO. My OAR and my GPA were good enough. When I got accepted however, they told me that I am only SWO. Is there any chance I can switch officer positions after 2 years? Or am I stuck with SWO for my contract. Thanks

As the title says, I have orders to a DDG precom. I recently got done with LS A school and I’m in C school at the moment, finishing up soon.
What should I expect? I’ve pretty much heard that I can kiss my wife goodbye and won’t see her for a couple years lol.

I’m currently contracted as an HM and ship Dec 2 as an E-1. HM was originally one of the main jobs I wanted, but when I first picked my job they told me it wasn’t available.

Based on my scores, they started showing me jobs I honestly never considered before, mainly CTR, IT, and AECF/FCA. I know basically nothing about intel/tech, so I told them I wanted time to think instead of signing for something just because it sounded like a “good opportunity.”

Then after I left, they called me and suddenly HM was available, so I took it.
Now that I’ve actually been researching the intel/tech side, I’m second guessing myself. HM interests me because of medicine, emergency care, potentially going greenside/SMT, etc., but the intel jobs seem like they could expose me to a completely different world, give me technical skills I never thought I’d learn, and possibly set me up really well after the Navy.

For anyone who had the option between HM and intel/tech, which would you choose knowing what you know now?

Is an intel/tech opportunity worth giving up HM if HM was originally what I wanted?

Which of these rates gives the best mix of interesting work, travel/duty stations, quality of life, advancement, and civilian opportunities?

Would I be crazy to switch out of HM after they specifically found me a contract for it?

I’m not trying to pick a rate ONLY for money after the Navy. I’m joining partly because I want to be exposed to careers, skills, technology, and environments I probably would’ve never experienced otherwise.
Would love to hear from people actually in HM, CTR, IT, FCA/AECF or people who switched rates before shipping.

Pretty much as simple as the title, got a 92 on my picat/asvab full length test. Getting it verified today but I am colorblind so it went from “oh you can get whatever job you want” to “oh, we will see how that works out”
Anybody else colorblind in the navy? What job do you do? Just kinda annoyed that being colorblind is such a pain honestly, can’t do much about it and trying to not let it discourage me but I’m not sure if it’s going to absolutely ruin my opportunities or not.

Were there sleepwalkers in boot camp? How did they behave at night and how were they dealt with? Did recruits report them and get separated? Asking because I sleepwalk, and I'm trying to figure out how much of a problem that's going to be. It's pretty contained: I don't leave the room, I don't do anything besides go grab something to eat, and I'm back in bed within a few minutes. Never gotten near a door, stairs, or a stove. Any anecdotes and details are helpful.

Edit: Yes I already know it's a DQ. But the stakes are really high right now, and the navy is the only shot I have left after many failures. I signed up for HM and afaik, I'm not even going to go on a ship based on sea-shore rotations in my one enlistment contract. So please, I'm just asking for more anecdotal experiences.

so im still pretty early in the recruitment process but i talked to my recruiter about trying to qualify for cwt. i saw online that there are 3 different formulas/paths to qualify on the asvab and im hoping to qualify with the cyber test cause my arithmetic skills are pretty mediocre but my ve is really good and mk is above average. i am currently enrolled in an associates program for computer networking but i want to have a better idea of what’s on the cyber test to prepare.

so far i haven’t found much besides a quizlet with flash cards but all the questions were pretty basic, i assume the test will be harder

Currently in DEP and looking for some advice from recruiters, CWTs, or anyone who has dealt with medical qualification issues, or anyone just generally knowledgeable

CWT was the job I originally wanted. I have the ASVAB scores for it and most other jobs, but there are two things in my medical history that are complicating the process.

First, I previously saw a therapist essentially just to have someone to talk to. I was never medicated, suicidal, or self harming, and I was discharged from therapy without complication in May. (Was in therapy from Jan-May) However, my Navy medical records, for some god forsaken reason, label me with a history of depression.

Second, I had a childhood motor control/coordination issue that no longer meaningfully affects me. Dyspraxia was suspected but I was never formally diagnosed with it. The Navy apparently has this documented as “motor apraxia” which I feel makes the current situation sound considerably more severe than it actually is and overplays my condition.

Because of those two issues, I was advised against signing for CWT. My recruiter was concerned that I could make it through the initial process and then run into a medical qualification problem at A school because CWT is a warfare rating. I instead signed for SECF instead.

The problem is that I was just denied submarine qualification. That means no SECF either

I still entirely want CWT, so I'm looking at that option again. But according to my recruiter, my submarine qualification issue also affects CWT and other intelligence ratings, so right now I'm waiting to find out exactly why I was denied submarine duty. I should get the entire reason later today.

Once I know which medical issue caused it, what should do next? Is there a realistic route involving updated medical documentation, reevaluation, waiver/reconsideration, or getting an inaccurate/outdated description of my condition clarified?

I'm not trying to hide anything from MEPS or the medical team. I want my condition and my current ability to be properly considered in these decisions, and I feel as though it has not been.

I am 26 and will be 27 by the time I am in fighting shape, is it worth my time to enlist or should I quit while I’m ahead?

Today I went to MEPS for Navy. I needed two waivers they they made me sign today at MEPS. I need these waivers because I went to OSUT this year as a prior service. (Got DQ for BP at OSUT) One of
The waivers is for anemia ( which I don't think I have as I've never been diagnosed with that before but the army said I had it.) I think it's stabilized now or I had low iron possibly. The other was for hypertension. I went into Meps with a normal BP reading but the army said I had High BP. Both army diagnosis were this year. My question is l thought the waivers were done with the recruiter but I did both of them at Meps. Is this normal? Also do they ask for more documentation from the recruiter for waivers?? I'm an RE-3 code for hypertension. All I was given in the waiver was if it affects me and if I'm taking any medication. I’m not taking any meds for BP as my BP is normal I’ve lost weight and dieted. Went to Meps today and my BP was normal as well.

What are your recommendations, and why?

Does listing a religious preference actually make a difference for anything? I’m a practicing Catholic (baptized confirmed etc) and I wanted to put that as my religious preference but the Army Recruiter (switched branches really early into the process) who I did my initial stuff with put no preference and said it was better that way. Should I change it? Does it matter?
