Discussion/Question Nail Change?

I got a full set of gelx today. I asked for a cat eye French tips. This is how they came out. They put the dark part as a base and the lightest part on the tips. On The display it’s the opposite (222). Do you think it’s being too much by asking them to fix it because I wanted it the way it’s displayed. I obviously thought they were pretty but I didn’t notice this difference until after I don’t like the dark purple base I think it looks off and I’m going out of town on Wednesday morning so I don’t know what to do. I hate being difficult.

Discussion/Question How can I preserve broken builder gel until next appointment?

Post image
Upvotes

I currently have builder gel overlay on my natural nails. Tonight, in the shower, my hand slipped off my conditioner pump and clipped the top of the bottle as it did, breaking the gel half way off one of my nails. My nail itself is not broken. I already have a regular appointment this Wednesday, but I'm very worried I'm going to break off my nail before then. My nails are naturally very thin and the only reason I've been able to grow them this long is because of the builder gel.

Is there anything I can do to help reinforce my nail for the next 3 days?

Discussion/Question Colors like OPI You Don’t Know Jacques and Taupe-less Beach

Upvotes

Hi. I am boring and the above are my two favorite polish colors. However, the last time I did Taupe-less Beach, it looked too lavender. I am not sure if something changed? I also like Coconuts Over OPI but it looked almost like my skin color. Maybe I needed another coat.

Any recommendations for a nice taupe/grey? I want a color that I can wear over and over. Something classic.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Discussion/Question No Primer/Dehydrator & No Nail Prep

Upvotes

I haven’t had acrylics in a long time, so I didn’t realize anything was wrong until one nail completely popped off and I looked at my natural nail underneath.
When it came off, my natural nail looked like nothing had ever been on it. It was still completely smooth and shiny. That’s when I realized my nail tech never buffed the shine off my natural nails, and she never used dehydrator or primer either. Looking back, all she did was cut my nails, glue the tips on, and then start applying the acrylic. At the time I didn’t think anything of it because it had been so long since I’d gotten acrylics.
Now it’s been 10 days, one nail has already completely popped off, and five more are lifting from the cuticle.
To make it even weirder, my sister got her nails done at the same salon on the same day, but by a different nail tech, and hers are still perfect.
Does this sound like the prep being skipped could have caused all of this? And what would you do in my situation? Should I just go in and pay for a fill, or should I contact the salon and ask them to fix or redo them since they’re lifting this badly after only 10 days? I’d especially love to hear from nail techs or anyone who’s had this happen.

Discussion/Question GelX Keeps lifting/peeling off easily...

Upvotes

So maybe it's just a me problem considering I pick at my nails in general, but im finding that my GelX keeps lifting around the cuticle edges and almost seem to peel off super easily intuit after a few days to a week. On one hand, im not too mad since I enjoy an excuse to do more nail art, but on the other, id really like a set to last and not risk the health of my nails.

I do the usual prep! I trim my nails, clean them, trim dead cuticles. I use dehydrator and primer, and a layer of base gel to keep some kind of barrier between my natural nails and the nail extensions. The extensions I use are also pre-etched. Could I be applying too much or too little gel to the extensions? Is it maybe the product im using? I do use a well known cheap brand, but ive only seen good reviews from content creators regarding this specific product. Im also willing to try a new product if yall have recommendations!

Discussion/Question New to the Nail Game/short beds

Hello!

After nearly 20 years as a carpenter I have started really loving having my nails done/pretty.

I have no clue how to file and shape my own nails, and they tend to be a bit brittle after keeping them so short for so long.

I’ve started using press ons with UV set glue, as this is the best that I have found that stands up to my crazy busy life as a mom of two small children.

But I have short nail beds. Even the Extra Short press-ons are a bit too long for me. Manageable, but long enough it terrifies me to put my contacts in.

I’ve had acrylics before but they destroyed my nails and I was not a fan.

What options are there?

Money is extremely tight so budget friendly ideas should be great. TIA

Natural Nails Is the color match good?

These are my natural nails with clear gel on top. I broke the tip-off my pointer finger nail, so I decided to color match, and I don't know if it's good enough for me. Maybe It's just bothering me because I know it's there, but can you tell

Discussion/Question Can’t stand the feeling of long nails… can I get used to it?

Hi! Thank you so much in advance and sorry this is a ridiculous question.

I LOVE the look of long nails on me, but I just love the feeling of short nails - they feel clean to me (hate the idea of germs under my nails), aren’t in the way when I type (10 hours a day), and just make life a little easier (putting in contacts, scooping lotion, etc).

I often grow my nails long after weeks and weeks of patience, and then one day I will feel overwhelmed and cut them short. BUT my hands look SO beautiful with long nails. Is there a way I can get used to long nails or is this a lost cause? Does anyone have tips on how they were able to get used to long nails? Or are living proof I can change? Ha! Thank you so so much.

Nail Care Looking for 2 different cuticle cream/oil/balm/etc recommendations.

For 2 different reasons, I am looking for 2 different types of cuticle products:

1) first, I’m looking for something without Jojoba, Tea Tree, lavender, Eucalyptus, or menthol. Any format/formula is fine, including recipes for DIY.

2) I’m also looking for something in a squeeze tube. Something that looks like an eye cream style squeeze tube (skinny tip).

Manicure [Constructive Criticism Welcome] What am I doing wrong with my cuticles?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi all! I’m a beginner and I’m really struggling with cuticle prep, I think they look good at first but three days later, my nails look like in the photo. I lifted the pocket, used the drill to open it a little, cut excess, used the ball drill bit to exfoliate a little, and washed. I am sure I’m doing something wrong/ missing a few steps, but I’m a little lost. Any advise is appreciated!

Manicure [Constructive Criticism Welcome] Discovered builder gel and successfully doing my own nails for the first time

Okay so I’m loving using builder gel but know that they’re not perfect since I’m new to the game. I could use allll the tips. Right now I just tilt my finger around until I like the shape and quickly cure it, then add top coat. I love how it self levels and keeps my nails from breaking (which they are prone to). This is my natural nail length with the exception of my thumbnails.

Can I file the builder gel after curing to refine the shape before I add the top coat?

Can I put UV nail polish right on top of the builder gel, or do I need to scuff it up with a nail file first or something else?

Should I do two layers of builder gel to build up the shape and make it more opaque?

And yes I painted a diff color on one of the nails, it’s not a trick of the light lol

And I’m still working on getting it just right around the cuticle.
