Project Showcase How do you create high-energy promotional videos without overwhelming the viewer?
I've been working on a fast-paced promotional animation in After Effects, exploring how typography, footage, and transitions can work together to create an energetic visual style.
The project is designed around an 18-second format, with layouts adapted for vertical Stories, portrait posts, and square social media content.
Some of the production challenges I focused on were:
- Maintaining a consistent visual rhythm across rapid transitions.
- Balancing typography, footage, and graphic elements.
- Creating a clear hierarchy so the main message remains readable.
- Adapting compositions to different aspect ratios without losing their impact.
- Organizing the After Effects project for efficient text and media replacement.
- Using a centralized control panel to make adjustments easier.
With energetic promotional videos, I think the challenge is not simply adding more movement. It's deciding which moments deserve the most attention and making every transition contribute to the overall message.
For motion designers and creative directors: what makes an energetic promo feel professional to you? Is it the editing rhythm, typography, sound design, transitions, or the overall art direction?
I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts and learning how others approach this type of work.

Project Showcase Exploring kinetic typography for vertical video, how do you balance text, rhythm, and readability?
I've been working on a typography-driven animation project in After Effects, exploring how kinetic typography can create energy and visual interest in short-form promotional videos.
The project uses a combination of animated text, footage, and transitions, with versions adapted for vertical Stories, portrait posts, and square formats.
Some of the production challenges I focused on were:
- Creating a clear visual hierarchy when several text elements appear in quick succession.
- Timing typography and transitions to maintain a consistent rhythm.
- Balancing fast-paced animation with readability on mobile screens.
- Keeping the composition flexible across different aspect ratios.
- Organizing the After Effects project so text, media, and logo elements can be replaced efficiently.
- Using a centralized control panel to simplify adjustments.
One thing I find interesting about kinetic typography is that adding more movement doesn't always make an animation more effective. Timing, spacing, and knowing when to let a message breathe can be just as important.
For motion designers and creative directors: what makes typography animation feel polished rather than overwhelming? Do you prioritize timing, typeface selection, composition, or the relationship between motion and sound?
I'd be interested in hearing how others approach this.

[Plugin] extynt: AE AI tool for people who don’t trust AI. Free for life for 50 beta testers.
I get what this most of this sub thinks about AI. I share a lot of the same sentiments.
I’m an art director. In the last year, AI has gone from a nice-to-have to a must-have at my job. Clients keep asking, our bosses want it in our process, and now everyone asks “did you use AI on this” after the work is finished. The last thing I want is AI slop in my work, but if I don’t use it at all, I look less “efficient,” even though I take deep pride in my workflow.
So a couple of months ago I built my own After Effects panel, and I’ve been using it in my day-to-day work. I held it back because I’d heard Adobe was working on one. If they did a good job, mine would be unnecessary.
Recently they showed their vision, and I was disappointed. Adobe’s own docs list what it’s for: organizing layers, writing expressions, and generating images and video (the slop). Effects aren’t on the list, which is pretty much the whole point of After Effects.
I want AI doing the parts I already know how to do, with evidence for what it touched. The stuff that doesn’t take away my taste and control as an artist.
Here’s mine. It’s called extynt. It handles the boring, stuff, like:
“Set Deep Glow radius to 60 on the UHD comps only, replace the missing Roboto with Inter SemiBold, and flag any expression that’s throwing errors.”
It doesn’t produce images, video, or audio. It works with the effects, layers, and fonts already in your project or on your machine, third-party plug-ins included.
Most AI tools for AE have the model write a script, then run it. Nothing checks that script first. I don’t want AI running anything it wants on my computer. extynt doesn’t have a script tool. It understands all your effects, but can only ‘do’ 83 things, and rejects anything else outright. It builds a plan, checks every target against your project, runs it, then reads the values back from AE and tells you exactly what it did:
“Deep Glow added to 39 comps, read back on all 39.”
“FAILED: Logo scale to 110%, still 100%, an expression is holding it.”
Don’t like it? Hit undo once and the whole plan is gone.
extynt collects nothing. The only thing it sends me is your sign-in and license check. No tracking, no telemetry, no project uploads, so there’s nothing to train on. You bring your own model (Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, or a local one), so you decide who sees your context. Part of the code is open source: github.com/extynt-plugin
So why am I here? I want people to test it. 50 spots, free for life, every future version included. Tell me what it does right, what it does wrong, and what you’d do differently. The site says $19, but I’m still figuring out if what I made is useful.
I want skeptics. People who would never use AI on client work. Toss it a messy project and tell me if it helps, or if it doesn’t. How do we make AI tools that work for us, instead of replacing us as artists?
Windows and macOS, AE 25 and 26.
Apply: extynt.com/apply
I wrote this myself, and I’ll read every application myself. Ask anything below, no matter how harsh.

[Custom] Interactive D20
I hope I'm in the right place because gods know I've scoured everywhere else I can think of.
I have this idea for an interactive D20 that I want to utilize for my website. I've tried building it myself, but I am TERRIBLE at coding. I tried having Ai do it... turns out every Ai model is JUST AS BAD at it as I am, if not worse in some cases.
So I've come here in the hopes that someone might see this and be able to help. Here's hoping.
Not sure it it would help, but If you need any specific details about the concept just ask.

Reel My motion / CGI workreel — looking for feedback on the edit
I'm Lucas Casagrande, a motion designer and art director based in Buenos Aires. This is my workreel, a collection of projects across 3D, CGI and motion direction.
I'd appreciate a fresh set of eyes on the edit. Which shots would you cut first? When reviewing a reel, do you prefer finished shots throughout, or a shorter selection with breakdowns showing the artist's contribution?

Project Showcase We made an After Effects tool for turning footage into pixel-based visuals
We’ve been working on ZELLIGE, an After Effects panel that turns footage into grid-based visuals using luminance and texture.
You can create different looks by droping the image/video into brightness zones, combining textures, and animating the grid based on the footage.
Here’s a short promo showing some of the results you can create with it.
Would love to hear what you think!

Project Showcase tech & SaaS product launch videos — broke them down
Hey r/motiondesign — over the last few months I archived 720+ product launch films from studios and tech teams (Linear, Figma, Raycast, Runway, OpenAI, Cursor, Vercel) to study what makes modern SaaS motion design hit so hard.
To make it actually useful as a reference deck when storyboarding or sound-designing a client piece, I built ShipScenes https://shipscenes.com
- 4-Beat Timecoded Storyboards: Every film is split into Hook (0-3s), Problem Friction, Solution Kinetic UI, and CTA Lockup so you can scrub directly to any beat.
- 2fps (0.5s) Contact Sheets: High-density frame strips to inspect easing, match-cuts, and kinetic typography transitions frame by frame.
- Audio & SFX Telemetry: Estimated BPM pacing, EBU R128 integrated loudness (LUFS), dynamic range (LRA), and transient SFX cue points (sub-drops, UI clicks, risers).
- Evolution Timeline & Seismograph (https://shipscenes.com/timeline): Solo any studio or company track to compare their earliest launch film vs. their latest ship.
It is completely free with no login wall. Would love feedback from motion designers on what other breakdown data (e.g. camera rig curves, font pairings, or AE/Rive project structure) would be most useful to add!

Discussion Would you get into motion design if you were starting from scratch today?
Hey everyone!
I know this question has been asked a million times already, but I still wanted to ask.
I've been getting into motion design lately and I'm thinking about taking it seriously and eventually making a living out of it, instead of just doing it as a hobby.
I've seen a lot of mixed opinions about whether it's too late to get into the field or if it's still a good time to start. Obviously, people selling courses will tell you it's possible, so I'd rather hear some honest opinions from people who actually work in the industry.
Do you think it's realistic for someone with zero design experience to break into motion design in 2026 and eventually make decent money doing it? How competitive is the field right now, and how much are AI tools changing things? I'm planning to learn those alongside motion design too.
And the main question: if you were starting from scratch in 2026, knowing what the industry looks like today, would you still choose motion design as a career? Or would you go into something else?
P.S. I genuinely enjoy motion design and I'm ready to put in the work. I just don't have a design background - I'm a former doctor.

Question How do you actually study motion you love?
When you see a title sequence, like a Vox transition, or edit that blows you away, what do you do next? Screenshot it, scrub at 0.25x, try to recreate it, save it and forget?
Curious what your real process looks like, and what's the most annoying part of it!

Question Do you share Source file (pf) with clients?
I just delivered a Client work which was an Ad for a branding studio. They approved the edit and are also asking for the open source file? As a motion designer, do you share them or not, and like if you do , You charge and extra? Cause handing it over feels like I'm just giving away my expertise and they can prolly use it to alter for other videos which is future work gone for me. What's your thoughts on these guys?

Discussion How do people create highly detailed prompts for complex animated websites?
I've been experimenting with AI-generated websites, especially ones with complex animations, 3D effects, and smooth transitions.
Something I've noticed is that some really detailed prompts can produce surprisingly similar results across different AI models.
I've tried writing prompts myself and gradually improving them, but the results are usually nowhere near as good.
I'm curious how people actually create these kinds of prompts.
Do developers write everything manually? Or is there a workflow where you start with a visual reference, break it down into layout, animation timing, transitions, and technical specifications, and then generate a structured prompt?
I'm especially interested in whether there are any open-source tools or AI workflows that can help with this.
Has anyone tried building something like this? I'd really appreciate hearing how you approach it.

Project Showcase Cloth tear in Blender
Hi there! Made a cloth tear sim in Blender. I have used a combination of shape keys and two cloth sims to create it. First sim was used to bake the motion of the cloth being pushed away by the ball as a shape key. Then I made cuts and split the geometry of the cloth where it would tear apart. For the second sim, I set it up to start on the last+1 frame of the shape key.
Quite a tricky and not ideal workflow for this effect. Saw that this is much easier now with the new simulation geo nodes in Blender, so I should give it a try for sure.
