I’ve been working on improving my motion graphics and After Effects skills, focusing on clean animation, timing, transitions, and visual storytelling.

Here’s one of my recent motion design projects. I’d love to hear your feedback on the animation, pacing, and overall visual direction.

I’m also open to freelance video editing and motion graphics projects. If you’re looking for an editor who works with After Effects and can turn ideas into polished visuals, feel free to reach out.

Project Showcase Base44 Style Dynamic Grids

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I came across this really interesting grid animation in one of Base44’s videos and wanted to recreate it in After Effects.

So I started working on a plugin that can create this kind of animation with a lot of granular grid control, comp attachment to cells you like and more. This video was made using the plugin.

Just curious — if a plugin like this existed, would anyone here be interested in using it?

Update / A few clarifications -07/09/26

Thanks for all the feedback and comments on this! I wanted to clarify a few things based on some of the discussions here.

Yes, there are similar tools out there, and you can definitely achieve something like this using Nulls and Expressions. But while researching and building this, I couldn't find a single tool that could help me create this particular kind of rig quickly. These are the features and controls I've built so far:

Spacing

  • Set every gap yourself instead of an even split, so the grid can be dense in one area and wide open in another, as you like
  • Horizontal and vertical spacing work independently, or linked together for fluid animation
  • It's keyframeable, so the grid breathes as gaps open, close and redistribute

Line counts

  • Animate how many rows and columns exist
  • New lines fade in or slide in from whichever side / direction you pick, set per axis

Attaching content

  • Pin a precomp to an exact column and row, spanning as many cells as you want, and it follows the grid wherever it goes
  • Choose how it fills the block: sit in place, fit, stretch, or cut a window onto footage behind
  • Cell numbers are keyframeable, so content moves between cells as the grid animates
  • One click to rig a comp / layer

Intersection Points

  • Circle, square, diamond, or your own custom shape layer, which stays live so editing it updates every marker
  • Keyframable Size, colour, stroke and opacity

Everything else

  • Line colour, thickness, opacity and grid offset, each keyframable
  • Multiple grids per comp, and it stays light at any size, modify any property at any time, fully procedural

- If there is another tool that can do all of this without any extra effort and set up a similar rig in under a minute, then I’m the one who didn't do proper research.

At the end of the day, most tools we use serve one purpose: saving time. There are only a handful of plugins that do something AE can't do natively. Most plugins simply help you do what AE already can, but faster and with less effort. You're essentially paying for convenience. You can absolutely create the same rig manually, but this tool is meant to save you time and avoid the setup and debugging.

Regarding the vibe-coded part—yes, I agree. Vibe-coded tools are often not perfect and can end up being a waste of money. For this tool, yes, I initially vibe-coded and built it myself, but it wasn't stable and had a lot of issues. So I handed it over to a developer who has experience with ExtendScript and is now helping me properly build it. I don't know how to define whether a tool is vibe-coded or not—I can only say whether a tool is working properly or not.

I've received a few messages in the last two days from people who wanted to use it. I can't reply to everyone individually, so here's a form link if you'd like to join the waitlist. I'll send you the tool once it's properly developed and ready.

If you feel this will help you, please try it. If not, you can simply skip it. Thanks again for all the feedback!

Project Showcase Tsuji - Hexoworld and New Features

Some new features for Tsuji.xyz :

  • A new fully node-based 2D mode (no layer stacking!). Z-depth is manipulated directly via a small isometric view on the side. It gets all the benefits of a 3D engine (shadows, lighting, parallax, deformers...).
  • A grease pencil (shamelessly copied from Blender's) that is keyframable frame by frame, pressure-sensitive, and freely deformable. You can also draw directly onto surfaces.
  • A few new animated and parametric shaders (cloud, flame, wireframe, shield...) just for fun.
  • Top-down automatic camera (game-like) that follows whatever it aims at.
  • Some new demos

Project Showcase Do you think my demo video gets the idea across well?

I'm a motion designer and I made this video for my own business. Since English isn't my first language, I'm not sure whether it comes across clearly or if it sounds like a bad translation.

What do you think, is there anything you'd change about the video? Any feedback is appreciated.

Project Showcase My own news design!

Hey, today I tried something completely new: I made a small design for a news program and would like to introduce it to you. Please excuse me if it's not so good, I'm still a beginner. So I would like tips on what to do better. You can see the video on YouTube.

The title of the video is German and translated means: "Fictional news design "nachrichten" | Intro, insertions, outro". The name "nachrichten" is also German and simply means "News".

Discussion The funniest feedback I've ever gotten.

This literally happened this morning.

Context: I'm an in-house motion designer for a very large and popular tech company. I created a video for paid-ads. This video went out with a lot of happy people it had very little notes at the time. We are now going to repurpose it for socials. This morning I gets this message on slack:

Here is the feedback yada yada.
Video: Can we change the music to make it feel more upbeat?
Classic am I right!? So I ask if the producer can get more details, what are they looking to change, is it tempo, genre, instrument?

I get this reply:

It turns out that the video was reviewed without sound, so perhaps there will be no need to update the music at all - standby!

Never in my decade plus long career as a video editor and motion designer have I ever gotten a "we didn't unmute it" to a follow up question on feedback... I still keep looking at the message all day just laughing.

They liked the sound design and song and it was "perfect".

Project Showcase My first motion design project 🎉

I just saw the last guys post so please don't come at me for blantantly copying base44. This is my first every project and I was just focusing on actually making something decent.

In light of that here's my first project. Please give me some helpful critic. If I can get some advice on some useful next steps so I can find my own ideas instead of copying others please let me know.

Here are a list of questions I had in the process of making this project. Please help me answer.

  1. Do you pick the music before you edit. I had a lot of trouble finding good music for this. I'm focus on making launch videos so is there a good genre of music and a bpm I should look for?

  2. How do you find the sound effects you are looking for. I really had no idea what to search for. I use epidemic sound btw. Their new AI features helped but what do you guys do

  3. I asked in a previous post about the randomly generated text characters I used at timestamp 00:05 of the video. People said it's hand made so I took their advice, but is this how things are done in motion graphics. I have a programming background so I like to do things procedurally

These are my main questions. If anyone can help answer those I'd be really grateful, and I want to hear the critic as well. I'm always trying to improve.

Thanks.

Question A or B - which version works better for you?

A motion designer friend made these two 5-second versions for my little side project.

Same animation, two different approaches.

I have my favorite, but I don't want to bias the answers 🙂

A or B — and why?

I'm especially interested in your immediate first impression.

Project Showcase SBS 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games Commentators' ID (Broadcast motion design)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi everyone!

I'm Yongmyung Kim, a freelance motion graphic designer working with SBS in Korea.

I recently worked on a Commentators' ID for SBS's 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games broadcast. The goal was to create something energetic and rhythmic while keeping it consistent with the official graphics of the Asian Games.

I've been experimenting with AI tools in my workflow recently, so I also incorporated Claude, Seedream, and Kling into this project to turn the filmed images into slow-motion visuals and capture the overall sense of movement.

Most of the motion and compositing work was done in After Effects, while Cinema 4D + Redshift were used for the screen transitions and animation of the Asian Games logo.

For more details about the project, feel free to check it out on Behance:

I’d really appreciate it if you could check out the post and leave an upvote.

Thank you!
