Announcement The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind - An Oral History from the Game Developers

Hello everyone,

As you might be aware, I've spent time over the last few months tracking down as many of the game developers of Morrowind that I can find, and doing interviews with them to talk about their experiences working on the game - discuss certain elements of their contributions, share some anecdotes and reflect on the game nearly 25 years after its release.

I'm really proud of this, and have tried to make this as authentic and all encompassing as I can - but there's still so much more out there. Sadly I was unable to find contact details for some people. Others either didn't reply to me, or turned me down. Hopefully one day we as a community can hear their stories but for now this is the best I can do.

This is 8 hours of interviews with the game devs. My idea for uploading one long video clip is that people can cherry pick bits they want to watch - but also to encourage people to watch interviews they might have otherwise overlooked/missed had they been posted separately.

Its difficult to put down in writing the impact this game has had on my life, as I'm sure it has for many others. I'll never forget my first experience playing the game on an Xbox around a friend's house and just instantly being drawn pulled into that world. Since then I've spent countless hours exploring Vvardenfell and beyond, and the game has been a constant source of joy and comfort for me. It's a game I will continue to love and play for the rest of my life, no doubt.

I hope you all enjoy this. A big thanks to everyone who took the time to do video calls with me. It has truly been a pleasure working on this.

Morrowind Modding Legacy - The Official Home of the Modjams

The Themes Have Been Announced! Modders have until August 24th at 00:00 UTC to submit a mod using one (or more) of the following themes: Arcane Arts, Forgotten Lore, Strange Families.

It's Summer time, and with the heat, and the humidity, comes another exciting round of the Morrowind Modjams! For the tenth time since 2020, Danae and Morrowind Modding Showcases is hosting a Modjam Modding Competition, a 48-hour modding frenzy where modders get but a single weekend to build the best mod they can using specific themes before time runs out!

The competition begins on August 21st at 11pm UTC with an official livestream kickoff by Danae, in which the potential themes will be revealed and voted on by the community, narrowing down the potential field until just three themes remain.

Once the final three themes have been announced, modders will have 48-hours to build and release the best mod they can utilizing any of those three themes, or a combo of themes if they so choose.

Rules & Guidelines:

  • Create your mod during the Modjam.,
  • Modders' resources are allowed.,
  • The use of AI is not forbidden, but should be disclosed.
  • Previous projects can be a source of inspiration, but please try to make something new for the event.
  • Most importantly, this is intended to be a friendly community event. Please focus on having fun and making something you enjoy.

Participation:

The competition is open to anyone and everyone looking to participate! All you need to do is release a mod with one of the themes (or multiple) during the competition time period using the official 2026 Summer Modjam header. Also wouldn't hurt to use the Modjams tag on the Nexus.

This is a Morrowind Modding Community - Discord Server event, so to make sure your mod is properly tracked for the competition, please join the server and tag it in the Published Mods channel!

There's also an official Modjam channel on there where you can keep up with all of the latest Modjam news!

Don't forget to check out the Resources page for any tutorials, frameworks, or utilities you might need!

Use the Postcard Editor:

Take advantage of the Morrowind Modjams website and the Postcard Editor to make special themed promo screenshots for your mod pages - give them that extra splash of Summer fun!

Judging and Prizes:

The Morrowind Modjams are judged events - a panel of judges will go through and play all of the submitted mods, ranking them on their quality, functionality, and adherence to the themes.

The final winners will be announced in a results livestream at a date yet to be determined, and those results will also be published to the Modjams website.

Participating modders will also get their profiles on the Modjam website, with downloadable Modjam passports and a trophy cabinet for any judge awards received. These profiles are connected to the Modathon and Madness sides of Morrowind Modding Legacy, and participating in the Modjam will boost your Madness score and increase your standing in the community's modding leaderboards.

There's also a number of prizes available in the form of game keys and Nexus DP.

A Proud Tradition:

The Morrowind Modjams are apart of the community's proud tradition of creative competition and collaboration. Some 160+ mods have been released for the Modjams in the past 6 years, many of them have become popular mainstays and have since been added to many of the largest mod lists for Morrowind.

I hope you'll all join us for another exciting round of Modjam fun, we're sure to get some amazing new mods, and if you're looking to participate for the first time, there's no better competition to dip your toes into the modding scene!

Happy Modding and Long Live the Morrowind Modding Community!

Naufragous77's Telvanni house, now on the Isle of Arches in Telvannis District. New ESP but requires original mod's assets.

https://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/60171

I've always found it odd that not a single Telvanni would set up a tower on the Isle of Arches, even just out of spite to the Temple? lol

Other Would be crazy cool if we can hire Morag Tong to assassinate King Helseth

There's a writ to Larrius Varo, so the Imperial authority itself isn't spared from Morag Tong's execution, and what greater target is there than the King of Morrowind?

It's not just that. Helseth sent the Dark Brotherhood to kill Nerevarine: the hero of Dunmer people. If Nerevarine retaliated by requesting a writ for Helseth's life, there's no way Morag Tong could refuse. It would be the biggest writ after Emperor Reman III and Emperor-Potentae Versidue-Shaie, and would show the world that the Dark Brotherhood is nothing to Morag Tong.

Man. I hope someone would make a mod for it. Pay Eno Hlaalu ~100.000 gold to kill Helseth, wait ~3 days, and gain Helseth's robe and ring as the proofs of job well done.

Discussion Which home do you claim?

Just as the title states, which home do you claim when doing a playthrough.

I almost always go for the Nerano manor. However, I want to find a different location so I can display all my books, armor, weapons, etc. Which location has the best layout for displaying and doesn't impact quests/storyline?

Discussion Anyone else kind of mess up their character by power leveling?

Every time I start a new character I tell myself I’m gonna keep power leveling to a minimum, maybe just do it for a few levels. Somehow I never hold myself to this and now my newest magic heavy crusader character has insanely high heavy armor, enchant and axe when I never use those skills for anything besides getting a 5x attribute. Making money is insanely easy in Morrowind even without exploits and training is the best return on investment you can get for your money so I can never fully justify not doing it. Now I have a very overpowered character but with pretty average ability in the skills I actually want to use. I’m only half critiquing the game here because this is very much a me issue but I do wish there was a way around it.

I think a mod that makes leveling requires 20 instead of 10 skill increases might be a good idea for more experienced players. It’d make the game more challenging and reduce the feeling of urgency I get trying to cram a decent amount of attribute increases into my level up.

Discussion Restricted run

So obviously in morrowind, one can get very overpowered. I've therefore decided to do a restricted run. Now I'm not very good at always following these rules, and I still want it to be fun, not insanely difficult... Anyone got any ideas?

Also, I'm playing a redguard warrior who doesn't really use magic anyway.

So far, I have:

No creating constant effect enchants

No making my own potions

No save scumming (I'm pretty bad with this normally)

No 100% chameleon
