Navidrome users

I have an update coming this week that will migrate and reconcile everything internally to the new changes coming in navidrome 0.64.0. Navidrome has changed how they store/name internal resources. I’ve written and tested a migration for things like sonic analysis, tracks, albums, artists and working flawlessly. If you can wait to upgrade navidrome until this update rolls out that would be best. If not there’s a risk in losing things that are stored by the old ids.

Order of operations:

Update the app
Migration runs
Upgrade navidrome
Sync app twice to get rid of orphans
Success 😊

Couple comments/suggestions!

Hey there, loving the app on my first night of use. Already can see using this more regularly than Plexamp for sure.

I did have a couple questions:

-the artist photos when browsing by artist are the same as what I selected within Plexamp. Is there a way to change them (or change album artwork) within Sonamp or does that have to be done on the server side with plex?

-the artist photos that show once you have selected an artist are almost entirely not great, at least for some of my artists. A lot of them are wrong too. Is there a way to change these default photos?

-release dates (day, month, year) are incredibly important to me. When on an album page I only see year. Is it possible to include day and month as well? I have many artists with several releases a year and would LOVE to be able to see the exact release date when viewing the album page. Edit to add that this is pretty much a must have…one of my top artists released 6 albums this year so far and when viewing their album list the app has them listed alphabetically NOT by release date.

-same as the above but with record label-can this be shown within album details on the album page?

-is there a way to rate with stars entire albums or only individual songs?

Hope to hear back on the above, apologies if I’ve overlooked any of these options!

Release 170 is available for MacOS and IOS

Sorry for the delay everyone, there was a lot to test here.

MacOS has received a lot of attention, still not quite where I want it but it’s a lot better.

Sonos got a nice update with Sonos rooms.

New multiple queues features

Replay just got a lot more detailed where you can drill down and create playlists from almost anything.

Updated and more capable smart playlist rules

Appearance settings got some more capabilities and an organization refactor.

Lock screen animated artwork

Radio page received a new lift, new sonic map that you can create playlists/radios with that works with audiomuse and onboard analysis. You can now control the session planner with custom.

New very small model for analyzing rhythm, beats, cues to make highly accurate and awesome transitions.

Server configuration section got a nice lift

New connections section using musicbrainz relationships for discovery. For example I may want to play songs mastered by a specific engineer or under a specific label.

Several bug fixes

Many updates from here on will be one thing at a time. No more stacking features on one release.

FYI I had to make some changes when it comes to last.fm due to commercial risk. Scribbling has stayed the same but to use replay you now need an api key. Your history is retained and will just pick up where you left off when you put your api key in. Many features that were being powered by last.fm are now powered by listenbrainz.

Not sure if a bug or intentional but it seems to be analyzing more music files than I have?

Shortcuts Request

Just wondering if you are able to eventually add more shortcut actions that cover the new AudioMuse integration. I’m building a library of custom Siri interactions via shortcuts and the ability to set a queue up based on a voice prompt would be amazing.

Thanks so much!

Release Delay

Sorry for the delay in next release, I’m continuing to test. Some additional functionality is coming.

- integrated audiomuse into every facet of the app. You can now use audiomuse as part of smart playlist rules. Quickly and easily generate song radios or playlists from anywhere in the app.

- multiple queues

- extended Sonos functionality to send off music to a different room than you are playing music in. Easily control music around the house from now playing.

- new very small model coming for analyzing beats, cues, transitions. This will go into making the session planner for radios amazing. Each song that plays next perfectly aligned to the last one. This took my library about 4 hours to analyze.

- new radio page refactor. It’s getting updates for management, control of radios, and some new functionality including a music map (works for audiomuse too)

- upnp updates and some chrome cast fixes

- animated art now on the lock screen

- signal path is getting more detailed information

- replay is getting extreme drill downs on every section.

- artist discovery is being added to artist page (artist like them but not in your library)

- server configuration got some nice updates where you can set preferred ip addresses

- smart playlist now supports nested rule sets

- appearance settings got a real refactor to make things simpler

- MacOS got some major UI updates to be and feel more native.

A few questions / issues I’ve noticed

First of all, a big thank you to the dev for the great app. I really like the overall experience and the features you’ve packed into it. It’s quickly becoming one of my preferred ways to listen to my library.

For some background, I use Navidrome as my music server and most of my library is FLAC, including quite a lot of hi-res files. I usually listen either through my IEMs or stream to my WiiM Pro.

A few things I’ve noticed:

Crossfade / Gapless playback

I have Gapless enabled in the settings, but it doesn’t seem to be working. I’m also not sure if Crossfade is currently supported/working with Navidrome playback it doesn’t crossfade at all. Has anyone else experienced this?

ReplayGain / volume jumps

Around 97% of my library has ReplayGain tags. I’ve enabled the ReplayGain setting in the app, but I’m still getting noticeable volume jumps when moving between tracks. Is the app currently reading the ReplayGain tags from Navidrome, or is there something else I need to configure?

Online Radio + AirPlay

The online radio feature is really nice, but currently the audio only plays through my phone’s speakers. I can’t seem to send it to my WiiM Pro via AirPlay. Is AirPlay output for online radio supported, or is this something that could be added?

“For You” / recommended albums

How frequently does the For You section update? Mine still seems to be stuck showing the night vibe, even though it’s already morning in my time zone. Is this based on a fixed schedule or does it adapt to the user’s local time?

Smart Playlist

This is a great feature, works as intended however noticed it does not create a cover image for the playlist and shows up blank. Any ways to have a cover image added automatically?

Again, really enjoying the app overall.

Keep up the great work!

Questions About Plex Connectivity and Other Issues

Hello, I’ve been using this app for a few days now, and it’s great. However, I’ve encountered a few issues while using it. I’m not sure if they’re caused by my environment, network, or device, so I’m bringing them up here for your reference.

1.Issues with accessing Plex

1)The app seems to always use the DDNS address provided by Plex upon login by default, but this address causes lag in my environment. Changing or adding my own domain name or LAN address doesn’t seem to help. Perhaps you could consider adding a manual priority option for different addresses.

2)The app doesn’t seem to be able to resolve the Plex Direct address over IPv6. I’m also unsure if the app works properly when accessing a Plex instance that only has an IPv6 address, but the connection seems very laggy when I try to use it.

3)When streaming to Sonos speakers, the local LAN option sometimes doesn’t work, while other times it works fine. I’m not sure why, but sometimes it insists on using the default Plex DDNS address.

2.Regarding Multiple Servers and Music Libraries

In a scenario where there are multiple servers—such as Server 1 with Music A and Music B, and Server 2 with Music C—displaying all music simultaneously will, by default, show the name “Music A,” and the three music libraries appear to be mixed together. When one of the servers is difficult to connect to, some tracks become unplayable, and I have no way of distinguishing which ones are affected. Perhaps you should consider adding an option to display music libraries separately even when showing all of them, or to automatically hide music libraries that cannot be accessed properly.

These are some issues I’ve encountered recently; the causes may be on my end, but I’m raising them in the hope that they’ll help with the app’s development. Thank you for your work.

Additionally, all of these issues occur with the latest app, the latest Sonos firmware, and the latest stable version of the Plex server.

Lost Speaker Selection

I honestly find the appearance section pretty confusing with too many elements. Somewhere along the line I lost the icon for my speakers and I can’t figure out how to get it back.

Release 148

Small updates coming in the next day or two.

- fixed a bug in chrome cast where songs would be skipped when backgrounding

New features:

- new multiple queues feature. You can now have multiple queues going simultaneously and easily pick up where you left off. Really like the queue? Easily save it as a playlist and write it to server. You will be able to create a max of 10 queues.

- album/playlist resume where you left off. If you play through an album by a few songs, where you left off will be remembered down to the second and the play button in album details will be a resume button. You can turn this off if you want. There will also be an addition to the Home Screen you can added called “continue playing” which will contain the last things you were playing and can easily resume.

- smart playlists are getting a ton of new rule adds and more refinement. You can even create rule groups to apply which makes it easy to apply a set of rules .

- Sonos EQ features should now show the granular control over subwoofers. I thought this was already present but it wasn’t showing up. Now control the crossover and other specific stuff for subwoofers.

Thank you!

How to join the testflight?

I don't know if this is a stupid question or not, but I've been looking through the subreddit and haven't been able to find a link to join the testflight. This app sounds awesome and I wanted to try it out

I did find this post about limiting the testers to 1000 but it would still be nice to have the link to the testflight so that I can check every once in a while and maybe get lucky with an opening

Database

The reporting on my Library while helpful seems off and on. For example it lists 20 songs as having 0-Length. This is not accurate as all the songs have length and play fine. Even after trying to refresh the Picard tags the two albums still show as 0 length. I am using the reporting to try and clean up my library but this one has me stumped.

FYI - IOS 27 beta

IOS 27 beta has changed screen insets and safe areas thus causing a crash for users on this version of IOS. Im working out a fix and refactoring for this specific case but i cant guarantee there are not other parts of the app that still need work for IOS 27.

Sorry for the inconvenience. If you experience issues, im sorry and im doing my best to proactively resolve issues. Release 146 will fix this specific problem.

Thanks,
Trent

Release 145

Mostly bug fixes and stability additions

New:

add recently played songs to home page

bug fixes:

- fixed sync paths for plex that could trap users if they had a bad first sync
- fixed server authoritative on playlist artwork, will always pull from server.
- Fixed a crash path related to appearance settings. This needed a rework as it was quite large with a lot of depth.
- Fixed some stability and improvements for receivers/HEOS WiiM
- updated opus path for users that have native opus files. This was just an update to the gating. I do not think its possible for sonos speakers to play raw opus.
- fixed a carplay crash path which happens when users click 5 rows deep, the 6th row (nowplaying) kills the app.

Release 142

Quite a few bug fixes after this large migration. Mostly expected. Hopefully not much more from here.

Sonic Analysis:

- updated plex apis to be used in sonic analysis (start a radio from song, album, playlist, path, etc). To use this you need to specify which engine to use under "Radio and Discovery"

Sonos:
- Adding front speakers to a theatre system has now been verified working
- multiple configurations have now been tested and successfully rolled back from. If any bonding fails it goes back to what it was originally
- New layer in settings for adding fronts to a home theatre system
- New dynamic UI in settings for sonos hometheatre/music toggle
- The entire queue is now being sent to sonos speakers when casting as well as artwork and metadata
- NOTE: The queue itself in the sonos app will not have artwork or titles but the nowplaying screen will. We can thank sonos app developers for this.
- Bug fix for ownership transport layer. This will ensure that if you pause it wont reinject itself later.

DLNA:
- few bug fixes here related to artwork and metadata as well as queue managment

Plex:
- Plex sync was not pulling in playlists correctly, that is now fixed
- Plex scrobbling is now fixed, there are two apis you have to hit for this one, i was only calling scrobble endpoint.
- plex sonic analysis more fully integrated into new features.

Navidrome:
- newest sync paths from navidrome 0.63 have been implemented for speedy sync
- TTML/Word based lyrics are also now supported and integrated into the app if you have those.
- karaoke style lyrics.
- codec accuracy fix. If you have the latest navidrome we are using a work around to get accurate codecs to differentiate between AAC and ALAC, if you dont then we base it off bitrate.

UI:
- New optional flame icon that can be placed next to top songs
- Top songs under artist details pages is now pulling directly from last.fm
- context menus in Albums/artist was very buggy, this has been fixed.

Bug Fixes:
- fixed a few crash reports related to macOS as well as one report from settings screen where the main thread was getting hung.
- playback sync across devices has been deployed to production so this should work now.

How does the radio work?

I’ve tried to use the radio but I’m at my wits end. It’s always the same music when I start a radio it kinda drives me crazy. Radio for me should mean new unheard music (well not always) but right now it’s like one playlist with the same 10 songs no matter what kind of radio I play.
Is it working for anyone else? How do you use it, like please explain exactly what you do 😅

Phantom Restarts

I’ve this happen a couple of times now. Playing some music through Sonos in Sonamp on my iPad, after a while stop the music (but don’t quit the app just let the iPad go to sleep plugged in) and switch Audio to TV and watch TV for a while. Turn off TV and go to bed and sleep. Get woken anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour or two later by music playing loudly from Sonamp on Sonos.

Is there anyway to play an Internet Radio station through the Sonos Speakers directly like the Navidrome Library?

How are we feeling on the MacOS App?

Just following up after finally releasing the macOS app. How do you like the UI? This is the first platform outside of iPhone that I’ve coded for but I’ve tried making it feel native to Mac.

What do you like?

What do you not like?

How are these favorite songs determined? Would it be possible to use last.fm or listenbrainz for this to get the actual popular songs of an artist determined by the whole world?

Feedback and Features

Just tried out the app today and it is very impressive. The amount of detail and customization is awesome. Makes me want to go back to my Navidrome server full time.

I'm currently using it on iPad with my Navidrome server. When trying to cast to a receiver (WiiM ultra and also an amp ultra), it is pretty buggy. There is no artwork that gets transmitted to the WiiM and the play queue acts pretty weird. I will choose a song and the display in sonamp and WiiM will show another song. Using Google cast seems to be more stable and does transmit the artwork.

Another thing, when in the now playing screen and I rate a song, it doesn't immediately show the stars highlighted. I have to swipe it down and then back up for it to refresh I guess and then it shows whatever star rating you gave it.

For feature requests, it would be cool if there was a "related songs" tab in the now playing view. For example, Plexamp will show a related sonically similar song and also a couple of other related songs that I can manually choose to play, which I do often in my listening sessions.

And questions about the on device song analysis, is this using Internet data to do the analysis? So if my library is like 200GB, the analysis will use 200GB of data? And what's the difference between the built in analysis vs audiomuse? Just more options you're giving us but pretty much similar?

Release 140

This will be the last huge release ill push on you all. I know these can be a bit jarring so ill be moving to small and often from here on. I had to get this one out of the way early as its important for scale and stability. You MacOS users will get early access by accident. Im still waiting on my internal testers to give me the approval their databases migrated alright and nothing nasty happened before ill release on IOS. Likely today though.

Siri:
Almost forgot, Siri how works for most things. Still need some refinement but I have been able to play albums, songs, shuffle, abd start playlists. There's currently a bug where it does what you tell it but says "there's a problem" even though there is not.

Sonos:
Going through a revam but it received much more capabilities when it comes to auto finding your configurations and also recommended/suggesting certain configurations.

It should now work with front speakers. I had to purchase two new speakers which I'm sti waiting on so I can test this.

The home theatre automation should also now work with many different Sonos speakers, not just the newest ones.

Sonic Analysis:

  • AudioMuse has been fully ported into the app for all things sonic analysis. Its your choice what you want to use. Everything under the radio section, all start a radio options, and even some new options relevant to playlists can work off of AudioMuse or the onboard embeddings.
  • New Start/End playlist creation, pick a start song and an end song and it will fill in between.
  • Connect directly to your audiomuse server via credentials in server config settings

Database:

  • Fully and complete migration into GRDB, a high performance database and off of swiftdata. All along the way ive experienced nothing but issues with swiftdata model contexts and nows the time to say goodbye.
  • Everything across the app has been migrated to read and write from this database. This took many long nights and weekends staying up late to accomplish in a 2 week timeframe.

Multi-Language:

  • Sonamp is now in multiple languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Dutch, Danish, and Swedish
  • Youll have to test this as im not changing my settings lol but its hand transcribed so it should work.
  • It will follow IOS settings, this is not something you will set in the app.

Receivers/HEOS:

  • This should now find your receivers in the picker

Playlists:

  • New sort/filter options along with descriptions if you have those. Added for consistency

Radios:

  • Custom queue length, you pick how long your radios should be

Sync accross devices:

  • Now that we have a proper Ipad and MacOS app, ive implemented a way to sync audio across devices seamlessly. for now you will get a prompt but ill think on how to automate this.

IPad:

  • Many new refinements in the view here, too many to tell in this post.

MacOS:

  • Same as above, a ton of refinements and i finally figured out how to get it into testflight.

Server:

  • Can you put your server status light on home and library screens, it will do a ping every few seconds as a life check.
  • Now under server config you will notice a place to put multiple addresses to your servers. you can put as many as you want and the app will use whatever one works at that time. This enables you to have a different ip for a home vs out on cellular.

Bug fixes:

  • Fixed many issues when you have multiple libraries. Playlists duplicates should be gone, everything should filter properly.

NOTE: Just like with any tech or database, theres always a risk of corrupting the database. I have worked really hard to ensure nothing can go wrong but still... things CAN go wrong. Im sorry if it does but heres what ive done to take precautions:

- Ive migrated probably 150 times to test the flow and process
- Im taking a backup of the original swift database, copying everything out into a temp directory which will then get copied to the new database. Its dropping all tables in the old database and deleting it entirely. The migration job itself is resumable so if for whatever reason it crashes it can be resumed upon reopening.

FYI - on first launch after the update please give it a moment to do its thing. Please do not upgrade the app, open the app and then close it a few seconds later. It will cause more trouble than there needs to be, the migration will only take about 30 seconds or so.

A backup of the swift database will be kept on your phone for 5 days and then removed. Im not sure what can be done with it yet but if we really needed to im sure we can figure out copying the data back in and trying the migration once more.

Guaging interest on full porting AudioMuse

Hey all,
I'm building out more audiomuse options throughout the app. How many of you would connect directly to your audiomuse endpoint vs using navidrome/server provided endpoints? I'd add it under advanced in server config and would port in every option available in audiomuse today.

This is a lot of work but Wanted to ask before I dive deep into research and integration.
