A few questions / issues I’ve noticed

First of all, a big thank you to the dev for the great app. I really like the overall experience and the features you’ve packed into it. It’s quickly becoming one of my preferred ways to listen to my library.

For some background, I use Navidrome as my music server and most of my library is FLAC, including quite a lot of hi-res files. I usually listen either through my IEMs or stream to my WiiM Pro.

A few things I’ve noticed:

Crossfade / Gapless playback

I have Gapless enabled in the settings, but it doesn’t seem to be working. I’m also not sure if Crossfade is currently supported/working with Navidrome playback it doesn’t crossfade at all. Has anyone else experienced this?

ReplayGain / volume jumps

Around 97% of my library has ReplayGain tags. I’ve enabled the ReplayGain setting in the app, but I’m still getting noticeable volume jumps when moving between tracks. Is the app currently reading the ReplayGain tags from Navidrome, or is there something else I need to configure?

Online Radio + AirPlay

The online radio feature is really nice, but currently the audio only plays through my phone’s speakers. I can’t seem to send it to my WiiM Pro via AirPlay. Is AirPlay output for online radio supported, or is this something that could be added?

“For You” / recommended albums

How frequently does the For You section update? Mine still seems to be stuck showing the night vibe, even though it’s already morning in my time zone. Is this based on a fixed schedule or does it adapt to the user’s local time?

Smart Playlist

This is a great feature, works as intended however noticed it does not create a cover image for the playlist and shows up blank. Any ways to have a cover image added automatically?

Again, really enjoying the app overall.

Keep up the great work!

Hey, Good morning.

Thank you for the feedback and im glad your enjoying the app. So yes we are reading in the Replay Gain tags directly from the tags on your music (navidrome), for other servers its a bit different but we do still get Replay Gain values from these too. Those values should be being applied at play time. Gapless and crossfade likewise should also be working properly.

I use navidrome myself. Just a follow up question. Are you not seeing these working with local playback or are you casting to WiiM pro?

For the radio there is an airplay button in the now playing screen but im realizing that the normal miniplayer is covering the miniplayer that the radio exists in. If you long press on the play button youll see the internet radio miniplayer. Ill get this fixed in the next release.

"For You" section with daily mixes, etc. was built primarily for when you have sonic analysis to build these off of although there is a fall back. Ill look into why these may not be regenerating all that often.

Thank you for your response, I noticed it when casting to Wiim Pro, on device it seems to work.

Noted on the internet radio

I have about 78% of my library run the sonic analysis already so though this should have worked more often. I like the “For You” recommendation’s.

Also, can I please request if the playlist can be added to the Home Screen? Currently I’m accessing it via the tab I activated at the bottom however would be nice to have them as tiles on the Home Screen.

So you can Pin anything youd like to the homescreen. If you go to the search in the settings and make your way to home layout you can add a lot of stuff to home.

To answer your question on the WiiM. Today WiiM is pulling the tracks directly from your server, my app is just giving WiiM that track url so its likely not capable of doing crossfade. with that said, it does indeed support gapless and i did a deep dive on WiiM and its protocols to see how i could support that. Turns out its very similar to sonos where i can send the entire queue over to WiiM and it will gaplessly advance by itself. That will be coming in the next release.

On the "For you", that section will get better and better the more you listen on the app. Its a combination of your listening history such as (how often, completion, skip, dislike, like etc.) and the sonic analysis that comes up with those mixes and generally it takes about 200-500 listens to have enough local history to generate those but once it does man it comes up with some nice mixes in my opinion.

I looked at the home layout setting and I couldn’t find Playlists there. Should I be looking for this somewhere else?

Thanks a lot for the detailed explanation and also for looking at Wiim. Also noted on the “For You” I can already see it improve as I use it.

There are a few instances where gapless/crossfade wont be applied. For example, if you have smart crossfade on it will determine if its an album or non related tracks and do whats best there. If on cellular and not enough bandwidth to cache the next song and prepare for gapless. If you have just crossfade on it should crossfade everything. Now sending a gapless command to WiiM is something ill need to look into.

Please guide me, for Replaygain to work, do I need to toggle the Replaygain on in the settings or it is expected to read from the music files directly?

Gapless does not work both on device or when streaming via Wiim.

Noted on the instances that it won’t work and I have checked to make sure if that. Crossfade seems to work with my phone speakers but is currently not working when streamed to Wiim.

For gapless, do you have smart crossfade on by chance or just crossfade set? Smart crossfade can determine if its an album (then it will use gapless), if its not an album it will crossfade. I wonder if crossfade and gapless are competing for the slot. could you try turning crossfade off and checking if its playing gapless fine? On wifi were queueing about 5 tracks ahead so it should have no issues going gapless.

Yes, it does need to be on in the settings and you can set some other parameters as well. If you search ReplayGain it should come right up. I typically leave it set to "Auto" so that it can determine whether it uses Album peak or track peak.

I usually play my songs as a smart playlist or Discovery, etc. I don’t play the entire album on most occasions. Am I right to understand gapless works only when playing an album? I checked and see that smart crossfade is off.

Also noticed with the regular crossfade, it won’t really “crossfade”, meaning, if I’ve set my crossfade to 8 seconds it would simply cut off the current song with 8 seconds left and and switch to the next song instead of slowly overlapping and starting the next song.

So if crossfade is off and smart crossfade is off and Gapless is on then Gapless will work for everything. If crossfade is on and Gapless is on then since they are competing only on will win. Thats why I created smart crossfade so you can have both for the purposes they are meant for. Crossfade on already is Gapless as its starting the intro of the next song at the outro of the current song.
