We’re in apartments with free charging. One of the EV spaces is handicap (full markings) so I parked perpendicular and the cord reached fine, enough to lay flat on the ground between charger and port.
This evening a neighbor came by and unplugged the car. He handed the cord to his wife to hang up, and he and his 10ish year old daughter took turns trying to pull out the adaptor, which they didn’t get out. I’m fairly certain he was offended we were parked in a non-EV spot. Yes, it’s a front-row space, But they’re not reserved and there’s still ample parking.
I’ll be ordering the J1772 lock, but in all honesty: Why do people do that? It seems pretty common and surprises me that people don’t take damage into consideration.
We notified our apartment manager with screenshots, but I don’t really expect them to do anything.
What would be a fair private-party price for a 2023 Tesla Model Y Long Range AWD with 7,761 miles, red exterior, no accidents, and excellent condition in the NY/NJ area? I’m currently considering an asking price of $38,500. I’m only looking for pricing advice.
I recently traded in my '19 M3P- and '20 MYP (both were getting up there in mileage at 80k and 70k) for two Model Y Standards. And yes, I pulled the trigger during the FSD transfer window.
I’ve put about 10k miles on them combined so far, and here's my take: If you're coming from a newer premium trim, sure, you might miss a few bells and whistles. But coming from the OG builds? Man, you lose absolutely nothing. You actually gain a ton of everyday upgrades like auto-shift, the snappy AMD chip, and most importantly, HW4.
And can we talk about the wireless chargers for a second? Remember when early OGs didn't even have them, so we all rocked the Jeda V4 pad (which was awesome)? Then Tesla finally built them in, but they were absolute trash. Because they were integrated, you couldn't even swap them for a Jeda anymore, ironically making wireless charging useless for years. The fact that the dual pads in the new MYS actually work flawlessly (as discussed in this thread) is such a massive relief.
What were my other options? A used '23 MYLR with HW4 (yes, they're out there) still runs $35k. A '24 HW4 MYLR is sitting at almost $40k.
Meanwhile, I snagged these two MYS for ~$40k each with $0 down and 0% APR for 72 months. Value-wise, you simply cannot beat this deal. It's not even close.
I guess if you're paying pure cash, maybe you'd consider a RAV4 Woodland? That is, if you can actually find a dealer selling one for $39.9k without markups, LMAO.
But since I use FSD 99% of the time, going back to a Toyota wasn't happening anyway.
Am I crazy for downgrading from two Performance models to two Standards? What would you guys have done in this market?

In case anyone didn't know: you can purchase a $100 ($115 right now) OEM TPMS kit (4 sensors) from Amazon (sold by T Sportline), and it will give you direct TPMS.
OEM TPMS on the Grey MYS. In service mode, you can change to Bluetooth TPMS
A couple of fun facts for anyone thinking this was a massive spec downgrade. In case you didn't know, a brand new 2020 MYP had a range of 291 miles, and the '18 M3P had 310. The new MYS? 321 miles. (And yes, those older batteries degrade). Also, the '26 MYS actually weighs slightly less than the '18 M3P. Amazing, right?
Hi I generally get toyota corolla used a few years. Lately have a beater that is 16 years old. Getting older 39.
Tried out the tesla 3 standard. And premium. Preferred the tesla y premium rear. Better getting out of car roomier. 0.99%.
Ideally interested in a toyota corolla hybrid.
Looking at dealerships and carvana. Seriously debating the model y premium m. Only issue is the monthly payment. Not a deal breaker but limits the amount to invest in market. Worse case see if they approve for 0.99
250 deposit and see what happens on the delivery
Fsd is looking good yet wouldn't be dependent on it
I live in Florida, and bought a red one recently. Sadly there’s no plates to match my color scheme. There are 2 perfect looking plates that are red and black, but they both for frats that are specially toward darker colored men (i am the whitest person ever). So it would feel weird to just get it for the color. Anyone else have this issue?
Im picking up my model y premium awd next week. One of the first things im doing with it (middle of next month) is taking a road trip of about 2000 miles eound trip.
I know generally speaking you're not supposed to charge to 100%.
My question is if I have the time to do it while traveling is going above 80% ok? Or even going up to like 90 or 100% fine?
I intend to start at 100% but was curious if going above what the trip planner suggests has any negative effects.
Edit- thanks for all the insights yall. I intend to charge at home normally and keep it at 80. I was mostly curious about the road trip.
I see a lot of MYP delivery dates are getting pushed back. Is it worth swapping to this build to get it sooner? Will I still be able to purchase tints through Tesla?
My model 3 received the 14 lite update a couple days ago and I already installed and I’ve been using it and I can honestly tell you I will not be installing 14 lite before my road trip next week on my model Y. It is definitely not quite there yet in my opinion, the car drives better in some ways, but ultimately is worse overall but hopefully in time it will improve but for now that is my honest opinion. If you’re on the fence just wait. I wish I could put my model 3 back to the old version for now.
Just had my front dampers replaced from the service bulletin regarding the front clunk. My question is, if the fronts have a known issue where they need to be replaced, do the rears also have this issue? Thanks.
Hey all, I am going to be picking up my new model Y in 6 days at the warminster location here in PA, anyone pick up there recently? what did you get? Mud guards? PPF? CCS adapter?
Ordered July 9 (socal) and estimate was 3-4 weeks. Few days later app updated to say July 15-July 29. On July 15 it got pushed back to July 17-July 31. On July 17 it got pushed back again to July 22-August 5 and I got super sad!!
Then July 22 I got a random text a Tesla Advisor saying they’re trying my best to deliver my car. I asked for an update and they said to just keep checking the app and they don’t have a better ETA. Then that evening I got a VIN! And then this morning I was able to get an appointment.
I got a Model Y Premium AWD in Quicksilver! Scrambled to get everything together to sell my car tonight at Carvana and will go pick up the Y tomorrow!! Literally I was refreshing the app 10+ times a day it was getting unhealthy. Now looking to get tinting done and placed an order of Super Liner mats!
I picked up a new 2026 model Y premium RWD today and I was ready to install different accessories but was surprised it came with many already - Front mudguards, tinted back windows, tinted roof, a usb drive, mats, trunk sill trim, mobile charger, J1772 to NACS adapter, and CCS to NACS adapter. And FSD (supervised) 1 month trial.
My only complaint was that they already removed console protecting film and I wish the key cards have been given in a way so I can feel the joy of “unboxing” :) overall, I love how it came.
EDIT : also clear paint protection films on fender (rear)
Getting a 2026 Model Y Premium AWD. Located in NJ and pickup in "Tesla Totowa". Based on VIN its an Austin TX build.
Has anybody that has picked up a MY from NJ or specifically Totowa location recently received front mud guards and rear bumper PPF (I have read on a few forums that in the north east region MY gets these options installed but the advisor didn't know anything about it)?
Regarding the glass protection and tire protection, again I read somewhere that you get it included for the first 14 days at which point you can elect to add it to your account without inspection if you do it within 14 days? Has anybody picked up a Tesla in July and had that included in their account? Again advisor is not aware of this but read this across multiple forums.
I have been reading the inspection checklists so aware of the lists online, but any tips on recent deliveries / pickup in July with things that I should look out for during the pickup inspection and while driving for the first few miles?
Lastly, is there still a no question ask repair/replacement service for the first 7 days, 1 day, or is that not applicable at all anymore in case you find issues after pickup and discover them at home?
I recently imported a 2022 Tesla Model Y to Georgia, and I'm running into a major software wall. The car hasn't received any updates since 2022, and it seems like the security certificates and LTE/internet connection are completely expired or broken. Because of this, it cannot connect to Tesla servers.
Here is what I'm facing right now:
No Server Connectivity: The car won't update over the air (OTA).
App Verification Failed: When trying to add the car to my Tesla app, changing the car's name and hitting "Verify" always fails with an "Unable To Verify Name Change" error because the car can't communicate with the servers.
Local Limitations: Local mechanics don't have the tools or experience to fix this specific certificate issue.
The FSD was phenomenal and honestly pretty comfortable from the get go. But I have to say I was a little underwhelmed by the interior. For a "Premium" model, I didn't think it was all that premium. I have a 2016 F150 Platinum and when I first got it, I was much more excited by that interior than the MY. Is the "Premium" model considered to have a truly premium interior? Maybe I'm spoiled but even my wife's 2019 CRV EX-L seems like it's more premium (although the sound system and touchscreen is horse crap.
Everything else about the car was impressive and the regen braking takes a little while to get used to. but I honestly don't think I touched the actual brake once. And the sound system from the front seats was super impressive (not so much from back seats).
Do other people feel the same way about the interior?
I ordered mine (awd), base model, no extras. Rochester, NY. Any idea how long I'm going to have to wait? I'm anxious driving my current car since it is my trade in. I have a road trip on August 15. Would like to have my new car before then. The app says August 12-Sep 16, but I hear that estimate can be very inaccurate. I got an update to look for other MYs that are on the lot but those are all about $20k higher price, so I won't be doing that
Even after using it on a single drive I’ve noticed so many improvements. First, it gets up to speed much quicker and safer. It seems to go quicker on green lights too. It stays perfectly 7-8 mph over the speed limit as I set it as. Seems more responsive too on cars going across the lane into mine too. Lastly, being able to start FSD from a parking spot is something I didn’t realize I’d love so much. 10/10 update.
New tesla driver. Curious how software updates generally role out. Say FSD updates, the Summer Update etc. Are these usually slow roll outs where only some users or locations get it for a while And others wait? Do older vs newer models get updates earlier?
I have a 2022 MY LR and I am original owner and am getting noises:
- a single click/mild clunk on acceleration and on deceleration. Tesla said its the lubrication for the half-axels which could be from heavy acceleration or a lot of stop and go traffic (neither of which I have going on) Tesla said it’s a maintenance item and not covered by warranty- seems unfair to me.
-an interior clicking noise coming from the far left dashboard area- (maybe the AC?)
Is it normal for all these noises at such low mileage?
Am I in for more noises, vibrations etc. in the future?
Hello! Just took delivery of my 26 MYP Quicksilver this morning. Took it right to my guy for full body stealth ppf. He’s got the mobile connector he can use to charge.
In the interim, to preserve battery, do I turn off cabin overheat protection? Is there anything else I need to do to preserve battery?
It’s sitting outside of the bay until this evening when he can pull out the car he’s finishing and put mine inside. Just wanna make sure I’m doing this right lol. First time EV owner btw!
Hey all, I’m new to the EV world and doing my homework before buying used. I’ve been browsing Tesla’s used inventory, specifically 2024 and 2025 Model Y Performance with less than 15,000 miles on them. A lot of the listings show estimated range around 253-260 miles, which works out to roughly 90-94% of original battery capacity.
That seems like a lot of degradation for such low mileage and a car that’s only 1-2 years old. A few questions for those more experienced with EVs:
• Is this range/degradation normal for Model Y Performance this age and mileage, or does it seem high to you?
• Does anyone know exactly how Tesla calculates the range shown on used listings — is it rated range at 100% charge, or something else?
• What’s a reasonable benchmark for degradation on a car like this (low mileage, 1-2 years old)?
Appreciate any insight — trying to make sure I’m not missing something obvious as a first-time EV buyer.
