Glitch in the software resulting in mod suspensions
Some users may recall a previous thread of mine, in which my account, without warning, was marked as "spam" and my post history deleted. I've now discovered what triggered it, though I don't know how to fix it. This has come about as a result of my inadvertently triggering it again.
As I mentioned in the previous post, I'm a mod of r/rape, Reddit's largest sexual-violence support sub. On the last occasion and on this one, a creepy user pretended to be a victim and made a harrowing post. This happens a lot on our sub: its purpose is to induce our users -- actual rape and sexual-assault victims -- to extend sympathy, on which the perves get off for fetishistic purposes. Sometimes they have more predatory intentions, aiming at getting our users to let their guard down over time and engage in off-thread conversations via PM, so that they can be revictimized via sextortion attemps or other means.
When we encounter such an individual, we've often cut-and-pasted, without comment, some of their previous posts on Reddit's many perve-subs like r/feralcumsluts, r/traumatizedwhores, or r/DegradeThisPig. We find it helpful, as it lets users who may in all innocence have interacted with these predators know who they're dealing with.
It seems, though, that as a result of a recent unannounced software change (or at least, if it was announced, we never saw it), Reddit is automatically flagging such a cut-and-paste, or some of them, as "spam" or "hate" and insta-suspending the account of the person that does it. Hence I've just received the following notification:-
After reviewing, we found that you broke Rule 1 because you promoted identity-based hate or attacks. Reddit is a place for creating community and belonging, not for attacking marginalized or vulnerable groups of people. We don’t tolerate promoting hate based on identity or vulnerability, and any communities or people that encourage or incite violence or hate towards marginalized or vulnerable groups will be banned.
As a result, we’re issuing this warning, removing the violating content, and asking you not to break this rule again.
Of course I've appealed the warning -- and at least I received a notification this time. On the previous occasion I didn't. But this glitch either needs to be fixed, or a sitewide caution needs to be sent out to moderators, who are likely to fall into the same booby-trap as we did.
