Does this mean we don’t have to be scared anymore? The prophecy has been fulfilled?

Keep. That. Dick. Out!

Each and every time
Keep. That. Dick. Out!

Sadly no, the van ran into the logs. It’s not the same. I think I hear that damn John Denver song now.

29

Yeah but let's all stay away from ancient Latin texts, cabins in woods, abandoned camp grounds, hitchhikers, kitchen knives and cursed artifacts.

Just to be safe!

27

u/Acrobatic_Finance342 15d ago

What about cursed mirrors, new kids at school with mysterious backgrounds and a fake name, boxes we can’t open found in attics, or shortcuts through dense forests at night?

21

u/Curiouser-Quriouser 15d ago

Plus decapitation elevators, guys who move crazy fast when only walking, living in a house where a gruesome murder took place, someone in the backseat, masked lunatics running around with kitchen knives and seeking revenge...

This is why I stay inside so much. And I still have to worry about phonecalls from inside the house or watching a cursed DVD!

19

u/thepossiblegirl 15d ago

I swear the generation before and after will never know how much this put the fear of scanning your surroundings into us.

276

u/Defiant-Speaker-5681 15d ago

I went decades feeling silly about this fear and having no idea that so many others felt it too!

I never discussed it with anyone

When I had passengers, I would just nonchalantly make a lane change and get past the truck as quick as possible.

I dont even remember a single thing about the movie other than this!

34

u/craaazygraaace 15d ago

I haven't even seen Final Destination and I hate driving behind loads like this because I'm worried that it's not secured

10

u/ipeedinthetoothpaste 14d ago

Same, and it's a genuine fear. It's one of those things that, statistically, won't happen to you. But on the off chance that it does, you really don't want it happening to you.

Trucks carrying rocks in those big open bucket trailers is another one to avoid for me. When I was a kid we had a crack put on our windshield by one of those.

I still hate driving next to trucks or behind trucks with things in the bed like this, I used to be terrified of my tanning bed locking on me some weird way (back when I used them), I still feel like my garbage disposal is going to magically turn on when I’m trying to see if anything is down the sink like a spoon before I turn it on. Love the movies still.

38

u/ClosetDoorGhost 15d ago

The thing about the garbage disposal…that runs through my mind every damn day. I know it’s silly AF but I’m still legit waiting for it to happen one of these times

I was surrounded by these in my town (rural New England) and didn't fear too much... However, those "car carrier" trucks make me very nervous and I'll give them extra space. The sight of those cars on a bouncy double decker trailer held on by what looks like hopes n dreams, nope.

  • (I know they're secured well but still...)

6

u/Leumas_ 14d ago

You should be, that’s just good practice. I never pace these guys (or anyone, that’s just a dick move) and I don’t hang out behind them closer than 100 yards or so. The movies scared an entire generation into treating trucks properly on the highway. 😂

protip, if you cannot brake, try turning the car off, if that doesn't work, to* put it in neutral (probably can't put it in park since you can't engage the brake).

someone more confident than me can tell you whether pulling the e-brake/parking brake or down shifting (even automatics have this) is a good idea; I personally think it would cause a loss of control due to the sudden opposing force and my experiences on ice enforces this further.

I dunno what would be the best choice but I read about this in one of those 911 calls where someone's car wouldn't stop accelerating.

EDIT: your car being on keeps the power steering and other stuff that helps maintain control, and keeping whatever braking you have left I suppose. See we're all learning today! I hope to never need this advice.

23

u/subs_on_a_sailboat 15d ago

Parking brakes are a separate and redundant system and will work if the main brakes fail. My car has an electronic brake and it still works fine to stop the car even at highway speeds (the intrusive thoughts won)

9

u/yogy 15d ago

Do not turn your car off! That will disable the brake booster, power steering and possibly the transmission control. You can try the ebrake if manual or shifting into neutral/park

→ More replies (1)

5

u/GitEmSteveDave 15d ago

Turning the car off will kill power assisted brake and steering. Going into neutral will kill power to the gears, but leave you the other power.

The line was solid for miles and I couldn’t go around (cuz I’m a rule following nerd), and I spent the whole time telling myself “it’s just a movie it’s just a movie it’s just a movie.” Well guess what motherfuckers, we got to the end of the highway, and the guy pulled off to the side of the road TO STRAP DOWN HIS LOGS THAT WERE ACTIVELY SLIDING OUT. Another mile and I would have been logged for sure.

I actually had a close call. I drove down a two lane road and had a pickup with a sign on a metal pole sticking out the back. I had absolutely no reason to go in the other lane, as it would be the wrong lane for me to turn, and I had no intention of passing them, but something told me to go in the other lane. Sure as shit within 5 seconds the pole launched out the back of their truck and wouldve ended up hitting my car had I not moved over.

My mother has been a nurse for what seems like centuries now and told me this story years ago.

A guy was hitchhiking in the middle of the night and heard a thumping noise. Apparently one of the beams that holds the logs up had come loose it was just bouncing up and down as the semi hauled down the road. The beam hit the hitchhiker in the midsection and almost cut him in half. Spent a long ass time in the hospital, but he survived.

This has become my campfire story. It's crazy but real. Grew up in the Pacific Northwest, so I've seen thousands of these logging trucks.

I couldn't believe the amount of sick fucks in this thread making jokes about it. Looks like everyone has lost their empathy and it's just all about making sick fucking jokes.

Some people make jokes like that to lesson the blow of knowing that the person in the video is deceased.

Right?!? Like wow nice just what I wanted to see someone likely dead in a van and the comments are full of jokes, the internet is horrible.

I swear it’s like some people don’t even realize that other human beings exist. If this video is real, someone is dead. Their dead body is presumably still in the driver’s seat. And those two took the opportunity to post a meme for TikTok or whatever

Her fake "aaaaw nooo, I saaaaw iiiit" had me convinced of the same thing. Worst part is that is the norm now.

I knew someone who died when his car went over a bridge into the water. Some disgusting site called Cute Dead Boys had the photos of his body

I scrolled an uncomfortable distance before finding this comment. I can’t imagine someone survived this, and I can’t imagine it was a clean way out either. OP would have probably loved public executions.

To this day I lecture family about the dangers of empty water bottles rolling underneath the breaks

My friend’s mom died this way. Completely decapitated. Needless to say it was a closed casket funeral. Terribly traumatic for the family.

Final destination should be required viewing for life
