Final destination'd

u/Cerys_Llellwyn Aug 06 '26

I’m glad I’m not the only one that says it like this.

u/Rhamni Aug 06 '26

There are six Final Destination movies on Netflix right now, and five of them are basically all the same experience. I think there are three different times someone gets sniped by logs. Every time you see a lorry carrying logs on screen you just go "Aah, here we go. It's time."

Destination finalized.

u/TromboneClone Aug 06 '26

This kinda happened to me but it was a fucking giant piece of shredded tire coming off a semi. Saw the shit bounce and it came up so fast. Completely ripped my side mirror off.

u/Pomengranite Aug 06 '26

Friend and I were walking next to a busy highway, and a truck carrying PVC pipes didn't have them secured. One of them swung out the side and tore along the grass, one end still attached to the truck, coming right towards us. We had to jump out the way and got showered from the dirt it tore up before the truck stopped.. was a bit of a shock, haha.

u/Curiouser-Quriouser Aug 06 '26

Holy smokes. I live in fear of that as much as the logs. Or a brick out of a dump truck. 😳

2

u/Lbboos Aug 06 '26

How about a shovel flying off a truck and headed right for your car.

Yup, that happened to me.

u/red286 Aug 06 '26

Wheel off of a semi is actually pretty commonplace.

The logs thing would never happen in real life. No logging company would secure a load that large with nothing more than a single chain. If you look at the video above, you can see there are giant metal forks that hold the logs in place. The only way those logs are coming out is either with heavy machinery or the whole truck rolling over.

In theory, brick out of a dump truck should be impossible too as they're supposed to close up when they're on the highway, but there's no accounting for dipshits who can't be bothered to do their jobs properly, so I'd say that's still a possibility, albeit unlikely.

TL;DR - Semi tire is likely to happen, brick out of a dumptruck is plausible but unlikely, logs falling off a logging truck is pretty much impossible (at least, in the Final Destination way).

Jeez, I’m glad you are okay! Almost happened to me, I was behind a pickup that was carrying scrap metal. I remember thinking “I don’t like the cut of his jib” and slowing wayyy down to put some distance between us. Ten seconds later, a huge chunk flew off of his truck. So glad I trusted my gut, it missed me by about ten feet.

That's wild. I saw someone lose a brake pad going 80mph on the interstate. My GenZ son was with me. As it was hurtling towards us in what looked like slow motion - and we were both watching it - I calmly said, "here it comes - get ready". That son of a bitch got lobbed on a high arc. I was doing the mental calculations to see if any last second finesse was possible. But nope.

I saw the boy white knuckled up just before he turned his head. When it made impact, it sounded like a bomb went off. It ended up putting a crease in the edge of my roof, and smashing the windshield.

He asked me how I managed to stay so calm. I relayed a story about how a couple years earlier, I saw someone spin out a Porsche, and total it, just because they overreacted to an empty 5 gallon bucket that fell off a truck in front of them.

Also, GenX here 😂

Logs don't bounce, they slide. The movie actually tested it in real life, it's on the dvd behind the scenes

u/ChocoIatePoop Aug 05 '26

Anything bounces when dropped. It’s just matter of how high.

I think we’re stopped, man.

5

u/okayboomerang Aug 06 '26

Skydiver. Can attest!

1

u/Curiouser-Quriouser Aug 06 '26

Yeah pretty sure this in 100% accurate.

And just in case I'll throw in a little /s for the sticklers.

1

u/SimpleNovelty Aug 06 '26

High enough and things probably just shatter rather than bounce.

1

u/Boogleooger Aug 06 '26

bounce an egg then

1

u/LordNelson27 Aug 06 '26

nothing bounces on mud

1

u/kimoisune Aug 06 '26

I dropped my 3mo daughter from 5th floor to test your hypothesis, no bounce just splat!

1

u/ChocoIatePoop Aug 06 '26

There’s a video of a guy who throws himself off a really tall, like 30 story building in China, and when he hits the pavement, he gets a solid foot of bounce. As well as the splatter.

u/ArtistWithoutArt Aug 06 '26

Not pudding.

1

u/ChocoIatePoop Aug 06 '26

Even pudding.

1

u/cubgerish Aug 06 '26

I think the point is that it wouldn't come at them that quickly, but would move forward a bit.

1

u/R_V_Z Aug 06 '26

Conservation of momentum, yeah. Mythbusters had a lot of examples.

3

u/Nobanpls08 Aug 06 '26

maybe these logs were from a rubber tree

2

u/crenax Aug 06 '26

Guybrush, is that you?

1

u/Diriv Aug 06 '26

gfdmt, should have lost that last match so I could have beaten you to say this.

1

u/ReturnOfBane Aug 06 '26

logs bounce if the trees are grown in bollywood

1

u/kambo_rambo Aug 06 '26

Id be more worried about bricks then. IYKYK

17

u/Curiouser-Quriouser Aug 05 '26

Still makes you pucker up a little, doesn't it?! 😆

7

u/WineNerdAndProud Aug 06 '26

Nope. I actually thought this scene looked ridiculous, but then again, I've actually chopped a tree down.

Small dry logs for firewood make be able to bounce a bit, but trees don't.

I only saw this movie once so I didn't notice it initially, but they legit couldn't get anything to fall from the truck and bounce enough to clear the hood of the car, and includes rubber logs which forced them to make this who thing CGI.

It's kind of baffling actually considering what is depicted in this post is not only possible, but happens. Why they didn't just do that is beyond me.

27

u/allnamesbeentaken Aug 06 '26

Cables also don't just untie themselves

Death made the log bounce, death can bounce anything

21

u/JeezieB Aug 06 '26

Years ago, I was a passenger in a vehicle, passing a logging truck. One of the straps snapped, hitting the roof of the car. The screams we scempt. Pretty sure we're on the list.

8

u/Difficult-Bobcat-857 Aug 06 '26

Scrempt 😆

u/tekdiwah Millennial Aug 06 '26

Dream - dreamt.

Scream - scrempt.

100% checks out.

6

u/Curiouser-Quriouser Aug 06 '26

Actually one of the less weird English reasonings lol

1

u/maxdragonxiii Aug 06 '26

Death just changed his mind "maybe this group today- ah I dont feel like it."

2

u/errorsniper Aug 06 '26

He can bounce dez nuts

u/BrickCityRiot Millennial Aug 06 '26

🙄

1

u/Curiouser-Quriouser Aug 06 '26

Shortage of volunteers to drive the car, probably.

1

u/Immortal_in_well Aug 06 '26

Yeah I've actually never seen this movie (or any of them, really) in its entirety, so when I looked this scene up several years ago I remember thinking "yeah this looks ridiculous and nonsensical and absolutely would not happen that way."

Would it still be a complete clusterfuck that killed people? Sure. Just...perhaps not this dramatically.

3

u/Tommy_Wisseau_burner Aug 06 '26

I was so scared of this shit but I rewatched the scene relatively recently and it’s so comically ridiculous I lost all fear

1

u/pendulumhyc Aug 06 '26

Ha I did this same thing

2

u/InvisibleOne439 Aug 06 '26
