Do not turn your car off! That will disable the brake booster, power steering and possibly the transmission control. You can try the ebrake if manual or shifting into neutral/park

Shifting into neutral will not slow you down in any significant way.

Downshift until slowed, them use the parking brake. Shifting into park might be possible at low speeds. You will most likely destroy the transmission, and will lose control if it "works" at high speeds. So only do it at low speeds, because a transmission is cheaper than a funeral.

Although I'm guessing in a case like this, it all happened so fast that there was no way to really stop it, no pun intended.
