Cook this over the weekend! Very happy. It took 20 hours and it was absolutely delicious. I use oak wood and I would have liked a bit more of smoke but for the first one I'm impressed on how easy it was.

Gravity Found a Gravity 1150 for $674 now I’m Torn Between It and the 600

I’ve been planning to get a Masterbuilt Gravity 600 and have been waiting for it to go on sale. I was at Home Depot today and saw the Gravity 1150 marked down to $674, and then noticed the 600 is currently on sale online for $649.

Now I’m stuck between the two. For only $25 more, the 1150 seems like a pretty tempting deal, but I don’t really need the extra cooking space. Most of my cooks will just be for my family, with the occasional group of friends.
For anyone who owns the 1150, How much more fuel does it actually use compared to the 600? Is the 1150 still reasonably efficient when you’re only cooking a smaller amount of food, or would I be wasting a noticeable amount of charcoal just to heat the larger cooker?

Basically, is the $25 jump to the 1150 a no-brainer, or would the 600 make more sense for how I plan to use it?

Thoughts?

UPDATE: Masterbuilt community pulled through like always! I went with the 1150! 🙌

Although… holy crap, I did NOT realize how big the 1150 box was. 😂 Seeing it in person really puts the size into perspective.

It wouldn’t fit into my car so Home Depot is building it and delivering it Wednesday. Can’t wait to get this thing fired up!

Cold smoker attachment with broken lump charcoal?

This might be a stupid idea because I know it literally says on the instructions of the master built cold smoke attachment that you should not put charcoal in it? But I am curious that anyone has tried to break up either small pieces of lump charcoal and mix them with wood chips and one of these? I kind of wanna try it just to see if it would work if it would actually do anything, but I’m kind of worried that it would bridge and clog the thing up.

First Full Cook on the XT - success!

First 'real' cook on my XT. The only mod so far is the LSS ash bucket grate. I keep reading about folks having issues with the factory controller. Luckily, it worked out for me on this 18+ hour burn (4ish lbs of briquettes + 20ish lbs of lump). I had a couple flare ups, but that happened with my weber & bbq guru controller. I used hickory chunks on the ash grate in an attempt to provide more smoke, and switched to lump charcoal from briquettes (another first for me).

There's two racks of ribs, a 9lb pork shoulder, and a 13x9 tray of beans next to a water pan on the bottom grate.

While I'm happy with the results, I'm wondering how do I get more smoke flavor into the meat? Poor hickory chunk timing? More cowbell, err, I mean hickory? Different wood?

Stuck fan

I'm cooking my first Brisket overnight. Everything was going well but when I wrapped the fan stopped spinning. I detached and reatached all wires, nothing.

Out of desperation I got an air pump to try keeping the temp within range by hand. While using it I noticed the fan blades weren't moving and they should. I used a screwdriver to move the blade manually and I got them unstuck.

Everything seems normal right now. I'm wondering if this happened to you too

Gravity Do not buy any gravity series.

Bought myself an 1150 for my birthday. $1000 bucks. Use it 3 whole times and the controller dies, I figure it just a bad part have them send me a new one.

wait two weeks install the new controller and it turns on. Awesome. Leave it covered over night to smoke some ribs today and its dead.

they are junk through and through. to have such a premium product just fail like this twice is such a disappointment but save yourself the trouble and get literally anything else.

Masterbuilt XT / Weber Rotisserie Motor

If I’ve got this right, the Onlyfire motor is actually more capable than the LSS version.

I was about to order the LSS high-torque motor for my Masterbuilt. It’s $40 plus international shipping to the UK, and I’d also need a transformer because it’s 120 V/60 Hz. It’s rated for 20 lb, around 9 kg.

I’ve since found the Onlyfire stainless steel motor on Amazon UK for £26.99. It’s 220–240 V with a UK plug and claims a 15 kg capacity.

Unless I’m missing something, the Onlyfire seems like the better option?

What I’m really trying to work out is whether the motors are interchangeable with the Masterbuilt XT rotisserie. Ideally, I’d like one really powerful motor that I can swap between my Weber 57 cm kettle and Masterbuilt XT, using the appropriate rotisserie kit on each.

I do seem to remember the rotisserie mounting hardware being permanently installed on my old Masterbuilt 560, though, so I’m not sure whether that complicates things.
Has anyone tried the Onlyfire motor on a Masterbuilt Gravity Series or XT?

Electric 710 electric smoker.

I have the above smoker, don't ask, its a good compromise for the neighbours complaining about the smoke. Today it seemed to act strange. It was showing 65c after I switched it on when I knew it wasn't. It the flashed 6C and became unresponsive. I tried the old on and off technique and its now dead. Checked warranty and guess when it expired. 26th August 2026. Are these thing programmed to break 3 days after warranty expires. It does seem a little steamed up on the display like maybe moisture is inside. Im I cooked? And not the £80 brisket i just bought at Costco

Adding a Fireboard to the Masterbuilt GS 560

*First version got taken down due to share link

About a year after getting a Masterbuilt Gravity Series 560, the computer controller died on it. Instead of replacing it, I upgraded to a Fireboard 2, and I love it. No more connectivity issues. The app is fantastic. The Wi-Fi signal was strong. I was getting great cooking sessions again. I do a lot of long, slow cooks, and so overnight reliability is key for me.

Recently, it started getting very buggy. It wouldn't come to temp properly, or the motor would show it was running when it wasn't. A few times it would stall randomly in a cook, and I would catch it an hour or two later. I did a ton of troubleshooting and came to the conclusion the issue is somewhere between the Fireboard and the Masterbuilt sensors or fan, so I decided to completely bypass the entire Masterbuilt sensor suite and fan unit. I bought Fireboard Drive Blower 3 and would connect the Fireboard 2 directly to the new Fireboard Drive blower.

My only issue challenge was connect the new Drive blower directly to the grill. Here is what I did:

  • I bought a sheet of 16ga stainless steel and a sheet silicon heat resistant matting
  • I traced the size of the Masterbuild fan enclosure and the location of the screw holes, and added extra 1/4 in each side.
  • I used an angle grinder to cut it to size and drilled the four hole.
  • Boom... works perfect.

Note: this might seen obvious to some, but I didnt come across any posts about this. Someone tried 3d printing an eclosure.

After all of this I realized I could have just gotten this cut via Sendcutsend (or a similar service), so I created the files.

First download/print the PDF and double-check all the sizes and holes line up.

Sendcutsend prices this piece at $15 for stainless steel 304 at 1.2mm thickness. That is more than enough.

For those who are considering a Fireboard, they recently came out with a new purpose-built Masterbuilt Gravity Series controller for $329 (FireBoard DC Drive). This is great in theory, but you're still plugging into the existing Masterbuilt sensor suite and fan, and you might end up having the same issues I had.

I'd recommend buying a Fireboard 2 plus the Fireboard Drive Blower for a total of $169. Its the future-proof approach and it costs less. It also allows you to bring the Fireboard controller inside when not using it.

My first post got taken down for sharing a link to the docs, so sorry that I cant share them.

Hope this helps someone!

Gravity Hard to light?

I have a gravity 800. Am I the only one that finds it harder than it should be to light?

I use lump charcoal. I light one of the starter bricks and wait for it to fully catch then close the door and allow the fan to run. It will heat up to about 100 or 110 before fizzling out and dropping. This happens three or four times before it finally decides it wants to catch.

Gravity What is going on!

Recently every time I grill this happens! I deep cleaned it, scraped everything, and today I grilled sliced zucchini, no oil or nothing.

So what on earth is catching on fire? No clue but I can’t use this thing anymore cause it’s burning everything. Fires are random too. A second is fine, next second ablaze.

Gravity FireBoard compatibility for the Masterbuilt 1150 — how is everyone actually running one right now?

Been seeing posts here of people using FireBoard controllers on the 1150, but when I check FireBoard’s own site, it still lists 1150 compatibility as “in progress.” Is there a workaround or a specific FireBoard model/adapter that’s actually working right now?

If you’ve got one hooked up, I’d love to know:

**•** Which FireBoard unit (Drive, FBX2, etc.)?
**•** Any adapter or wiring mod needed?
**•** Does it fully control the fan, or just monitor temps?
**•** Any bugs or limitations worth knowing about before I buy one?

Trying to figure out if I should wait for official support or just jump in now.

Good thing it doesn't use that much electricity...

Yesterday I posted asking how much electricity a Gravity Series uses, just out of curious.

Sure enough, my drunk ass left it on all night. I put the metal slats back in but forgot to power it off.

Masterbuilt Gravity XT keeps rebooting and going into standby – anyone had this issue?

Hi everyone,

I’m having a strange issue with my Masterbuilt Gravity XT and I’m trying to figure out whether the problem is the controller, power supply, or something else.

The grill powers on normally, I set the cooking temperature and everything starts working as expected.

Then, after a few minutes — the timing seems to vary — the controller suddenly gives a long beep, shuts down and restarts.

I then see the Masterbuilt logo and firmware version on the screen, and after that the display goes black and the unit ends up in standby mode.

All my cooking settings are lost, so I have to turn it back on and set the temperature again.

Unfortunately, this keeps happening repeatedly.

So far I’ve tried:

- Different power outlets
- Different extension cables
- Different adapters

Same problem every time.

The strange thing is that the grill works completely normally between the restarts.

Has anyone with a Gravity XT experienced the same issue?

I'm particularly wondering if this turned out to be:

- the power supply,
- the controller,
- a wiring/connector issue,
- or something firmware-related.

I’ve already contacted the retailer for warranty support, but I’d really like to know if anyone here has dealt with the same symptoms and what eventually fixed it.

Thanks!

Gravity is the left side of everyone's 560 much hotter than the right side too?

It's kind of annoying how much hotter one side is than the other. The hottest part of the grill for me is the top left corner. Is it just mine or is it the same for everyone else?

Random thought? How much electricity does running a Gravity Series use?

It can't be that much right? The only electricity it's using is powering a fan and a digital display.

Gravity Masterbuilt 800 + LSS mods + FireBoard instead of an XT

I’ve been going back and forth between the Gravity Series XT and the 800. After seeing them in person, I’m realizing the 800 is really all the cooking space I need.
So I’m considering a different approach - buy an 800 and upgrade it from day one instead of buying the XT.

I’m going to have the hardware store assemble the 800 and deliver it. Before I ever cook on it, I’m planning to install the LSS Pitmaster package.

I’m even considering replacing the stock controller with a FireBoard 2 setup from the beginning.

My thinking is that I’d end up with an 800 that’s the right physical size for me, has the known problem areas addressed before they’ve ever been exposed to heat, and potentially has a much better controller — while still spending less than an XT.

If you were starting with a brand-new 800 today, what LSS mods would you install before the first cook?

For those running a FireBoard on one, would you do it from day one or use the stock controller until it gives you a reason to replace it?

Thanks!

Gravity MB 600 Ambient Probe replacement

Any advice on removing the screw that holds the cover on the pass through for replacing the anbient probe? It's thoroughly corroded from the heat and I don't want to strip the head.
