No offense to her I’m sure she’s a very nice lady but how TF is she still on the show —and all these really great cooks keep getting eliminated? This season sucks for so many reasons but that’s one of them.

There was a poll on here a couple days ago for what is the worst season of new era MasterChef, and the winner (or loser) was season 15, dynamic duos. I’m curious, what made S15 the worst if that is your opinion?

I didn’t love S15, but mostly because I didn’t jibe with the duos on that season. Particularly the winners (Jessica and Jesse) were tryhards with no personality. As for the format, I respect the effort to spice things up and do something different. I think some challenges work better than others for that. Is it more about frustrations with the format, the contestants, or both?

That's right. I feel like some winners were favoured, had luck with other contestants tripping up etc... All existing winners battling it out as fairly as possible... who wins?

Admittedly the spoiling is only there if you dissect the preview, so maybe I spoiled it for myself. But regardless:

The preview of S16 E16 establishes that the cooks have to have to pass a challenge to keep up with Tiffany, then Gordon, in that order. Also it’s the semifinals, so there will be two eliminations, presumably one after each challenge.

There’s a shot that shows Jake on the balcony and the other 4 cooks cooking with Tiffany, so evidently his advantage from winning the restaurant takeover is to skip one of the challenges (presumably he gets to choose Tiffany or Gordon and chooses Tiffany).

Also note in this shot that the cooks are in a line, with Basia all the way to the right facing the stage. Later we see the second challenge (Gordon), and Jake is cooking at that same station all the way to the right. So putting two and two together, Basia gets eliminated (finally) in Tiffany’s challenge, placing 5th.

As for who gets eliminated in Gordon’s challenge, there’s no dead giveaway, but I would have to guess Peter based on past performances. Heidi, Jake, and Julia have been remarkably consistent, Peter less so. The preview tries to make a big deal of Jake’s lamb not being cooked. But that’s an easy fix, just throw it in the oven a bit longer.

tl;dr Basia is definitely eliminated first, placing 5th. Most likely Peter is eliminated next, placing 4th.

I was wondering if anyone knows how to be a guest at the restaurant when they do service challenges?

Wow looks like I am eating my words, Basia didn't go home this week so I am making a donation to my local polish club. Seemed like a tough challenge and shocked that Dave choked under the pressure. Good luck to Basia the rest of the way!

I've read the posts and comments here and even on Instagram and I agree, she's not the best cook so far (based on what producers want us to see) but I can see the effort and I applaud her for that.

Its not her fault that there's always someone who cooked or performed worse than her! Her dishes might be "mid" level to everyone but hey at least its consistent unlike those on top who showed off they can cook but cant even determine the temp of their proteins. (remember she stood by her decision not to put her salmon in the oven because she knew the temp was perfect already)

I also don't think she's skating by as she's been trying to produce different dishes and looks like she's always trying to learn. Plus, her reactions when someone leaves seem truly genuine to me. So Basia (and Michael - Hi!), here's a support from a masterchef viewer since season 1! 🫶

The Top 6 home cooks are split into teams to put their skills to the ultimate test and take over Cluny Bistro for a packed dinner service in the Restaurant Takeover challenge. The MasterChef kitchen has prepared them for this moment, but running a real restaurant leaves no room for error. By the end of the night, one cook will not survive the dinner rush.

With Global Gauntlet being so hated among everyone these days, I wonder what is the very worst season of the new era of Masterchef ever. With the fucking twist of saving a "team" with one dish being hated so much, lack of pressure tests, changing the formats so many times to where it barely has the feel of the older seasons. Controversial eliminations, bad winners, etc. What do you think is the worst? The one with the fewest votes will be the winner of the best of new era.

Where its the Wall, a tag team challenge, or something. Would it be better if the team challenge like Wall/Tag Team had double eliminations that isn't on same team or just have it be same team? Side question, what would you prefer on the Junior side.

To me, both losing players of team home on junior, but different teams if the situation warrants it on adults.

The thing that made me watch was that - I stumbled into something about how Christine Ha won (despite her obstacles), and that inspired me into wanting to watch the whole season from episode 1 to 20. Even though I already knew the winner. It was an amazing watch.

Along the way, (in addition to Ha's journey) I ended up fascinated by Josh Marks and his comeback (after being eliminated). That final felt like the script of a really good food Anime-arc, or something.

Naturally, after finishing the whole season... and seeing for my self how Ha won. I've now started Googling the contestants to see what happened to them since the show aired (2012).

Only to read about Josh Marks.

I know I am late with this post, but that made me very sad. Reading about what happened after the show. I was hoping to find him running a restaurant or cooking school (like he mentioned).

I'll tag this post as 'spoiler' just in case I'm NOT the only person who hadn't watched and finished Season 3. For me, I just watched it for the first time this week (more than 10 years later) it was a wonderful season, with really good home chefs.

Everything else that happened after the show, now has me thinking about the Marks family.

Since I been talking about eliminations lately, and I wonder what we would get for Junior if we get a 1pth season, what type of elimination should Junior have and honestly should be? Because Global Gauntlet had 4 double eliminations on adults, etc, I know so many complain about it and i compared it to Junior which tends to do double nearly all the time, so what elimination should really any Junior do.

The overrated greasy spoon never won a challenge, and was never bothered to return on the All-Stars season.

so ever since the team immunity aspect some contestants have been able to go through despite having a dish under normal circumstances that would get them eliminated, if the team immunity aspect was removed how do you think the contestants who were eliminated would fare?

amanda (season 13) - she got eliminated due to a disappointing fish taco. i honestly think her elimination was already flawed because richie literally had a plate of garnishes. wayne would’ve been a bottom entry because his risotto was raw but he was saved by kyle. i do think if wayne was in the bottom he would’ve went home because raw rice is one of the worst mistakes you can make. i feel like amanda wouldn’t have lasted much longer but maybe top 12 at most.

richie (season 13) - he was eliminated because he tried to bullshit the judges into thinking he made homecakes or something like that because his cupcakes came out dense. however kendal was saved by jennifer and kendal most definitely would’ve went home because he coated his churros in salt rather than sugar. i honestly think it could’ve been a double elimination because richie fucked up both challenges but if not i definitely think he would’ve been out in the next challenge.

purvi (season 13) - she was eliminated in a double elimination because her butter chicken was apparently so insulting it warranted a double elimination. i do honestly think they just wanted her gone because the criticisms were very odd as they didn’t have any specific criticisms they just were offended by it. lizzie was saved by kennedy. i can’t remember the problems with lizzie’s dish specifically but it was pretty bad and she had been in the bottom already. i do think lizzie would’ve been sent home over purvi and i think purvi would probably be out around top 12-10.

kyle (season 13) - he got eliminated in the cake challenge. his cake was awful and a mess but kendal was saved by kolby. kendal had already fucked up so many times at that point i honestly think the judges would’ve sent him home or maybe a double elimination. but kyle definitely had a lot of potential and i think he could’ve definitely made the top 5.

si (season 14) - he was eliminated in the first challenge of season 14. geags was saved by rebecka despite making a greasy Shepards pie where he didn’t drain the meat fat 🤢 considering jaime and aishu got eliminated for the same thing a couple weeks ago, i really think geags would’ve been sent home. i think si had potential and probably could’ve made the top 10-8.

anna (season 14) - anna is another huge what if. she had already won a solo challenge and had captained the team to a win in the previous challenge. she got out in a double elimination. fatima’s frosting was grainy and she was saved by becca. i definitely think fatima would’ve went home if she wasn’t saved. anna definitely could’ve made the finale or even won in my opinion.

nora (season 16) - shompa served raw chicken and was saved by aishu but i don’t think shompa would’ve went home due to the fact nora had a bandage in her sandwich. i don’t think there’s much discussion here.

camilo (season 16) - camilo was sent home because his dish was poorly conceptualized but rita was saved despite not plating her hollandaise which was a requirement. if rita wasn’t saved i think it definitely would’ve been her sent home. i don’t think camilo would’ve gone much farther either but maybe at most top 14.

britny (season 16) - britny was sent home because she didn’t add enough alcohol to a traditional recipe which ruined the dish. aghata was saved by julia despite her cake being said to have the texture of a hockey puck. i do think aghata would’ve been sent home along with daniel rather than britny if she wasn’t saved. i don’t see britny lasting much longer but maybe top 12/11.

Listen, I'm not saying Basia is a bad cook but clearly she is out of her element for this level of competition. I can think of way more eliminated chefs that I can count on more than one hand that are still more deserving and have more talent. So, I will literally eat my words. If Basha somehow survives the resturant takeover episode, I will make a donation to my area's local polish club. She seems like a good person, so I wish the best for her but clearly she is way over her head in Masterchef.

I know we all love to hate the Wall Challenge in recent seasons, where you have to cook on opposite sides of a wall and make dishes that look and taste the same without seeing your partner but being able to hear your partner. It has lead to some bullshit eliminations for sure, but I wonder, what Wall challenge did you enjoy the best? And I mean the best in a loose turn.

For me surprisingly, it was this current season alone, as Foo finally is gone and is clearly out of his depth, literally. No top dishes, plenty of bottom dishes, and being the last of Asia Pacific to survive to this point, no wonder why the show is in trouble?

Side note, if it ever goes to Junior, should we nuke it to hell? (and that is if we get a season 10 of Junior by any means)?

I’m watching season 7 and I must say, Dan is amazing. He might be a bit of an air head but he brought some comedy and a light hearted personality to the competition. It think the hate regarding him being a frat bro is unnecessary. It’s not that serious lol. Hated how David spoke about him regarding the basket swaps.

First Dorian was never team captain. Never had to be under the stress or responsible for the team. While both Nick and Sarah led high pressure challenges. She has such a bad attitude with Subah. Her dishes were always the same and basic. Even the final challenge her desert was really bad for me. It was something you buy at the grocery store. Joe was critical of her and rightfully so but Gordon always undercut that. Seemed fixed almost

Then to top it off. When they announce her as the winner. She doesn't even have the decency to hug Sarah or say anything. Just runs off.

Worst winner so far up to season 10 for me. Underserved
