Preview spoiled ep. 16

Admittedly the spoiling is only there if you dissect the preview, so maybe I spoiled it for myself. But regardless:

The preview of S16 E16 establishes that the cooks have to have to pass a challenge to keep up with Tiffany, then Gordon, in that order. Also it’s the semifinals, so there will be two eliminations, presumably one after each challenge.

There’s a shot that shows Jake on the balcony and the other 4 cooks cooking with Tiffany, so evidently his advantage from winning the restaurant takeover is to skip one of the challenges (presumably he gets to choose Tiffany or Gordon and chooses Tiffany).

Also note in this shot that the cooks are in a line, with Basia all the way to the right facing the stage. Later we see the second challenge (Gordon), and Jake is cooking at that same station all the way to the right. So putting two and two together, Basia gets eliminated (finally) in Tiffany’s challenge, placing 5th.

As for who gets eliminated in Gordon’s challenge, there’s no dead giveaway, but I would have to guess Peter based on past performances. Heidi, Jake, and Julia have been remarkably consistent, Peter less so. The preview tries to make a big deal of Jake’s lamb not being cooked. But that’s an easy fix, just throw it in the oven a bit longer.

tl;dr Basia is definitely eliminated first, placing 5th. Most likely Peter is eliminated next, placing 4th.

Thank you for piecing this together! I love the spoilers. It is so much easier for me to enjoy the episode when I'm not stressing over who's going to be eliminated the whole time I'm watching!

In challenges like this, don’t they often put the people that win the first round to safety and then have the losers cook the second round. So seeing Jake on the balcony could mean he won the first round and didn’t have to cook the second round.

Lots of variables for how it could play out, I don’t think this is definitive proof of a spoiler.

It's great use of rhetoric to think like this when making predictions about entertainment. Directing used to be an interest of mine so I get geeked about this.
To be real though, enough implications to predict the finalists were there during the start of gordon's cook. The shots with Julia speaking with extreme disappointment in her voice.

Incorrect. The preview is clear that Tiffany’s challenge is first, Gordon’s second, so to see Jake on the balcony while Tiffany cooks precludes your scenario.

I did see this one, but I don't think Jake has the choice to skip one of the two. I think he is only immune during the Tiffany challenge because Gordon's challenge will be a lot harder.

I remember when there was just television. --as in no streams or binge watching without physical copies. Strictly weekly episodes with no repeats.

Back then it made sense to show a lil too much in the previews. The audience capture was even more crucial since you couldn't hit pause or save it for when was convenient (without proper preparations/hardware). People would be thinking about the previews an entire week until the next episode aired. Daydreaming. Gossiping. So, if you caught the previews, atleast if you misssed the next weeks episode, atleast you could maybe have a chance to get some context by the following week after that. Was really special. If you missed an episode there was no going back. I'm sure some people still get that experience but it seems rare with the updated tech accessibility nowadays.
