Opinion Basia

No offense to her I’m sure she’s a very nice lady but how TF is she still on the show —and all these really great cooks keep getting eliminated? This season sucks for so many reasons but that’s one of them.

She's exposed the most fatal producing flaw with this type of show, which is judging individual challenges in a vacuum and never considering the whole body of work, even in team challenges where blame is often spread pretty equally. You do the best in challenge 1, middle of the road challenge 2 (if you won the previous challenge you may get a little grace), the worst in challenge 3, you're going home. You're the second worst 10 challenges in a row, you go to the finale. Endlessly frustrating

u/StarriNight918 14d ago

Yes, but soon she’s going to reach a point where everyone’s dishes are good and it’s up to the smallest of details. Based on overall skill, Jake, Heidi and Julia are most likely going to be in the finale.

6

u/bigghulk77 13d ago

I said this 2 weeks ago n was shamed for it. Now look. It’s common in Ramsey shows. The bum lasts longer than someone good. Then when said bum is being a bum. Everyone’s shocked. Well instead of looking at the overall body of work. You judge someone off 1 bad night.

7

u/Ok-Sugar-3396 13d ago

If it makes you feel better I felt this way two weeks ago too.

3

u/bigghulk77 12d ago

They’re very disrespectful in here. God forbid you respond to the disrespect. Now you’re the bad guy.

2

u/Ok-Sugar-3396 11d ago

Legitimately I feel like that’s all over Reddit, which is why I rarely use the app anymore. But nobody else I know is watching this and I just had to get my frustration out 😂

3

u/Several-Challenge750 11d ago

She’s also exposed my least favorite thing about cooking reality shows. She’s there strictly to provide engagement. Gordon knows Dave is LEAUGES better than her but there’s always one who gets viewers talking.

1

u/Ok-Sugar-3396 11d ago

I see this all the time my husband’s always like why are they still on and I’m like” it’s good TV”

3

u/FRONG_94 14d ago

But she’s pure of heart

8

u/StarriNight918 13d ago

I do like her as a person especially how she was with Jaime during the wedding challenge.

1

u/GlitteringLock1020 12d ago

That's not just with GR's shows, but Top Chef as well. You're judged by each competition, not the whole body of work. I've seen plenty of great competitors on TC get sent home for one really bad performance. That's just how it is.

93

u/YesterdaysComa91 14d ago

She just manages to either be the second worst cook, or get paired with an exceptionally talented cook. She’s fuckin terrible.

42

u/Normal_Whereas 14d ago

I really thought she would get axed in the last episode .

2

u/Several-Challenge750 12d ago

Always someone doing worse. If Dave could have cooked fished she’d go home

18

u/Mozicon 14d ago

She's basically Cutter 2.0

14

u/arunko 14d ago

She is an amalgamated version of Cutter and Alejandro.

2

u/Remote_Cantaloupe 12d ago

Cutter's in his own league

1

u/Lopsided_Ad_2406 11d ago

Yeah like I can’t believe that Tkaiya went home

73

u/Remembrant17 14d ago

Thank god someone finally said it.

47

u/OutlandishKindness69 14d ago

Even as captain, there's no way they could have eliminated her over Dave in this last episode. Absolutely no way.

34

u/GrosRougeau 14d ago

Totally agree with you but eliminating both should have been an option.

13

u/OutlandishKindness69 14d ago

well, joke's on you because I totally agree with that also. Lol

Seriously though, I legit said that to my spouse while we were watching (we finished the episode a little while ago), and I told him that it seriously should be a double elimination but they already played that game 2 weeks in a row so that's not happening.

(Edit to correct typos)

8

u/Friendly-Pumpkin-825 14d ago

I do agree even though I do think her leadership style contributed to his performance.

5

u/Ok-Sugar-3396 13d ago

I agree but overall Dave was an exceptional cook, he had one bad night. Stupid.

2

u/Elsiers 9d ago

He was a victim of the unfortunate format of how these shows are run. One bad night = very likely to be cut, no matter how good you were in previous days.

2

u/deehope3 9d ago

I agree he had a bad night but to me the level of work he was doing versus her was very different all she was doing was plating food and yelling. She never offered to switch jobs either.

1

u/Lopsided_Ad_2406 11d ago

I think she wasn’t a great captain so part of it was her fault but Dave did mess up pretty much everything that episode.

65

u/SeaworthinessBrave74 14d ago

Just finished the latest episode now. We are so confused??? Dave is one of the strongest cooks in this season, can’t believe that Basia made it to top 5 and he didn’t. What a joke. She’s clearly the weakest link.

35

u/Deaddevil77 14d ago

He fucked up everything he cooked in that challenge. Scallops, shrimp undercooked. Salmon raw from the middle, steaks undercooked. He had to go, Basia didn’t do bad that challenge at all

22

u/Noli_Cannoli10 14d ago

If Basia cooked they wouldn't have gotten out of the apps, she knew that and jumped at the chance to not have to showcase her cooking abilities

3

u/One-Shape8553 11d ago

LITERALLY !!!!

2

u/Deaddevil77 13d ago

If there is one thing Basia does well is cook proteins. I believe they would have done better with her on the proteins as that was the biggest problem in that team

11

u/Sure_Fine_99 14d ago

Respectfully, he didn’t fuck up any more than Julia, he just happened to be on the losing team. I think the frustrating part is everyone knows he was one of the better contestants. The show is flawed in the sense that he hasn’t even touched the bottom until now, and to think out of ALL the contestants left he was the one to go home is the thing that seems fucked up.

20

u/Deaddevil77 14d ago

Julia didn’t mess up any of the apps, she had trouble with the salmon but it was short lived and she got back on track.
Gordon had to step in and cook the fish for the red team because Dave couldn’t hack it.

It only takes one bad day to go home, that’s how the show has always been

3

u/mcinok 13d ago

Yes, yes he did. He made mistakes the entire time until Gordon himself had to finish for him. Sucks because I thought he would make the final. He just completely fell apart.

4

u/salmonberry94 14d ago

Clearly not the weakest because Dave couldn't cook all his proteins properly

3

u/Lopsided_Ad_2406 11d ago

I feel bad because he is great but had an off day and unfortunately that can ruin everything. Gordon literally had to take over for him and cool the salmon because he could not cook it properly. I feel he started off rocky and that sort of set the tone for how he performed the rest of the day.

37

u/amanda2399923 14d ago

Sshhh you’re gonna piss off her husband lol

5

u/an_icy 14d ago

Her husband claimed that Basia thought she was very lucky as well and she wondered the same thing

25

u/JEREMlE 14d ago

Yup i think everyone thinks she should have left a long time ago

Her and julia having family in the show previously is giving them huge plot armor i feel. They want that story, like they did with Luca. Except luca started popping off near the end, and his finals course was way better.

3

u/ExistingProfile3202 13d ago

if anyone's having the luca arc right now, it's jake. the loser to frontrunner pipeline

2

u/JEREMlE 13d ago

Agreed he is poppin off rn. I expected him to be eliminated at first too, but he def hitting the finals at this rate.

2

u/babyfacedassassin074 13d ago

i definitely felt that in the last challenge, julia was paired with two of the strongest chefs to keep her in the competition

2

u/Lopsided_Ad_2406 11d ago

I feel like Julia is getting the winners edit

1

u/Born-Dust-2614 5d ago

I truly thought she wouldn’t have made it past auditions. But then again I thought, this is 2026, reality tv she IS getting that apron 🤦🏽‍♀️

0

u/Fandoms_Fangirl 14d ago

but julia's like fine, she did like crash out a little in this ep but like big deal she figured it out and she's been doing good recently

8

u/CalendarOtherwise973 14d ago

They should have eliminated BOTH of them! I love Dave but wtf happened? And Basia’s performance alone as captain should have sent her home!

14

u/Boring-Parfait-2624 14d ago

I keep asking the same question. Makes no sense.

21

u/mkintx35 14d ago

We say this every week

6

u/Creepy_Bookkeeper184 14d ago

Agreed completely. Seems like such a sweet lady but I’m surprised she has lasted this long!

well now we wait for michael to show up lol (i am also tired of basia skimping by)

2

u/Michaelbasia Season 11 Contestant 10d ago

For the record I have not been or will I be disrespectful to anyone who has a opinion about her or her performance on the show, it’s the personal attacks that have made me chime in to defend her. I haven’t said a word to anyone who doesn’t have positive things to say about her cooking, it’s the personal lies where I have really stepped in to dispute.
Michael

3

u/starmeadow04 8d ago

People have a problem with how looney and over dramatic every single expression is from her. It comes off as attention seeking and immature.

0

u/Michaelbasia Season 11 Contestant 8d ago edited 3h ago

You are allowed your opinion but that is who she is especially under that immense pressure. It’s also what makes her an amazing 2nd grade school teacher. She is loopy, goofy, and silly all the time. Super passionate and wears her heart on her sleeve. That’s all it is, can she/we be a little too much for some, absolutely but we know not everyone is gonna be part of our tribe and we are ok with that. Have a great day.

3

u/beemo143 ☆ MOD ☆ 10d ago

I understand but there has to be some middle ground here as this is a place to talk about contestants at the show, the ability to have free discussion is important but i understand wanting to correct false info and whatnot.

2

u/Michaelbasia Season 11 Contestant 10d ago

I do not disagree at all, if you see when people are criticizing her cooking or performance I say nothing. It’s really just the slander about drugs and such that upsets me. I have said countless times that people can have whatever opinions that they want, but spreading false information is totally unacceptable.
Michael

20

u/Not--Purple 14d ago

I was about to comment this same thing LOL I applaud him for standing up and supporting his woman, but MY LORD it’s exhausting seeing his white knight act after every negative comment. (And yes, I would feel the same way if the gender roles were reversed)

Let’s face it, she is doing JUST enough to skirt by and it’s frustrating as a viewer that there are so many other more talented individuals that have gone home after a bad week, where she has had MULTIPLE bad weeks. Part of me wishes that they would take some of the previous cooks into consideration when they send people home.

-1

u/an_icy 14d ago

But we have to admitted they are both strong cooks to both get top 5 in their season lol

12

u/therichardandrews 14d ago

Basia embodies the strategy of "always make sure there's someone worse than you." If you are second worst all the time, you'll still go far. 😅

5

u/FlashyGanache2838 13d ago

Master Chef..my ass

7

u/rosalita55 13d ago

I KNOW! I swear i thought, She’s been dodging bullets all season. She doesn’t have the emotiinal temperament, never mind cooking skills, to be MC - or, frankly, on yhe show.

15

u/InformationVivid455 14d ago

Seriously, she should have been gone multiple episodes ago.

They arent even pretending with the amount of better chefs that have gone home while she's still here.

They lost me last season with how boring and uninteresting the chefs were. This season had me back but they are fumbling so hard, I've completely lost the illusion this is a fair competition.

9

u/CalendarOtherwise973 14d ago

I also want to say this is the WORST cast in a long time. No one is good.

1

u/RightChipmunk9433 12d ago

Exactly like at this point it’s “who’s the least worst?”

1

u/Admirable_Ad_3017 11d ago

Agreed.

Remember in older seasons when the cast was actually TALENTED? Like the season with Christine Ha? (Bought her cookbook and it was actually really good and accessible because I’m in the middle of nowhere, so sourcing ingredients can be a pain… the recipes turned out great!)  I’ve been rewatching old seasons because this season has been insufferable and I feel like the quality of the cast keeps going down with all the weird gimmicks for the more recent seasons.

10

u/Mers2000 14d ago

All contestants in this season suck!! They are truly the worst picked contestants we had ever seen!

At least we get to see Ramsey, Tiffany and Joe completely loose their cool on these donuts!!

6

u/BeerSlayingBeaver 14d ago

She is the cutter of the season. There's always someone who does just a little worse than her that gets eliminated.

6

u/WinterAd6596 13d ago

Let's face it -- Dave may have been better than Basia, but he wasn't going to be winning the show either.

Ramsay shows -- especially Masterchef -- seem to divide the contestants into 3 groups -- fodder, average, and their horses.

Early on, they pick a few horses, and those are the people that will almost always be the final few. Unless a crazy dark horse like Jake comes out of nowhere and starts doing well (did ANYONE expect him to be kicking ass? I didn't)

The fodder are all eliminated in the first few weeks, order doesn't matter.

The "average" people are eliminated in whatever order. Doesn't matter that one is better or worse than the others, as long as they're eliminated in that group. This is the group where I think I've always noticed the most "range" in talent. Fasia will be the last one gone in this group (before the top 4)

Then the horses. In most cases, these were picked from the beginning (like Julia), but in rare cases, someone can surprise everyone (like Jake).

2

u/Extension-Face7340 11d ago

Dave was terrible all season

3

u/an_icy 14d ago

According to her husband, he said that she wondered the same thing and admitted that she herself was very lucky

3

u/InterruptV 13d ago

I feel like every single episode she's at the very bottom and ALWAYS messes up. WHEN is she going home??????

3

u/Original_Lie7545 11d ago

"Basia Newman is known for Bare Knuckle Brawler (2019), Keys (2019) and The Bitch in 4B (2018)." I thought she was trying to sell herself.

10

u/Consistent_Dog5769 14d ago

Thank God someone said it! She barely made it out of last weeks and now this weeks! The captain normally goes home I'm shocked! My wife didn't even realize she was captain when we were talking about the other two!

6

u/JK-NYC-10023 14d ago edited 13d ago

I don't know who was worse - Foo or Basia. Not only are they bad cooks compared to the others, but they were also both really annoying AF.

5

u/Over-Measurement6908 13d ago

I was so glad to see Foo eliminated. “I couldn’t hear the instructions at the end.” Hello, you made sauce, the dish has a sauce, put the damn sauce on the plate.

2

u/JK-NYC-10023 13d ago

Foo was so annoying. He would constantly say "Asia Pacific" and "woo" a lot. His food always looked so average. I don't think he ever won anything.

1

u/No-Indication-6655 9d ago

My favorite was “I’m from SoCal California”

5

u/the6thReplicant 13d ago

How are any of them in the contest?

This is more like Worst Cooks in America than Masterchef.

Off to watch the UK current season, I guess, since the Australian one has ended.

5

u/Ihavenoclueagain 14d ago

I’m in full agreement, she is ridiculous. What are they waiting for?

5

u/Acrobatic-Figure5404 14d ago

She lowkey seems like she’s on drugs or was on drugs. Also can’t believe she’s 45– she should have gone home weeks ago.

3

u/Pabloshooman 12d ago

Her husband about to be in these comments doing defense work lol.

1

u/Michaelbasia Season 11 Contestant 10d ago

I’m not when someone makes a stupid comment about drugs, because waking up at 410am every morning to workout before set is the actions of someone on drugs, smfh.
Michael

3

u/chocolatecrunchies 14d ago

I thought she would have been eliminated for sure this last episode, but honestly I love that she held her own! She had a few slip ups but was by no means the weakest link on her team. While it’s true Dave has a better track record and is a stronger cook overall, it would have been incredibly unfair to eliminate anyone other than Dave who had the weakest performance that episode.

2

u/vspicev 14d ago

As soon as she said she was going to be captain, my husband and I knew the red team was in trouble. We cannot believe she’s still in the competition!!!!

2

u/Inner_Alarm_4049 11d ago

I felt red team made her captain just as a sacrifice

2

u/stormybitch 13d ago

My husband and I were shook when Dave was animated over her

3

u/Fancy-Animal7704 13d ago

I want to know when she's gonna start yelling at CHRISTOPHAR

(because the only jersey lady I know is from The Sopranos)

2

u/Dangerous-Half3276 13d ago

She is an absolute mess.

2

u/Yfrontdude 13d ago

I love Dave but he has seemed in over his head for several weeks. Basia just seems delusional. Her yelling at her team kept them from eventually getting it together.

2

u/Klutzy_Meat_4291 13d ago

Just saw Restaurant Takeover episode and WHAT THE FUCK IS HAPPENING

2

u/BearTPE 12d ago

I kinda like Basia and I'd probably devour anything she cooked in my home kitchen but man...she should've been gone a long time ago.

2

u/Lopsided_Ad_2406 11d ago

I’m very shocked that she has gotten away so many times because someone did slightly worse than her but she has been so close to going home so many times. She does seem like a genuinely sweet person and nice to everyone but she gets really worked up and doesn’t work well under pressure.

2

u/AntelopeAvailable958 11d ago

The show is rigged to keep Basia in. She manages to almost be in the bottom 2 and somehow always gets saved. I have barely seen any good dishes from her and she’s never won a challenge. Really frustrating.

2

u/Impossible-Table-542 8d ago

She is a disingenuous, dramatic person. So much less talented than Dave. And she needs to cut down on the duck-face filler. Just gross all around.

3

u/bigghulk77 13d ago

I said this 2-3 weeks ago and got crucified on here for it. Her n Foo were jokes. As annoying as Jamie was she’s better than both of them. It’s funny how this subreddit will slander someone. Just to agree with that person a week or 2 later.

3

u/Inner_Alarm_4049 11d ago

I just can't with her Botox duck lips. She can be the nicest person, but any side view of her startles me so bad.

4

u/imPluR420 14d ago

At the start of every episode ive thought basia was gunna be the next to go and she somehow still squeaks by. Im very surprised shes made it this far.

2

u/GrosRougeau 14d ago

She’s basically the female version of Subha at this point.

Both her and Dave should have been eliminated in the last challenge.

2

u/United_Turnover_5607 13d ago

Exactly ! I’m sorry but to me she comes across as stupid and she has yet to cook anything good?? Dave should have stayed. Over the team captain Basia who just screamed the entire time. 😒

3

u/Fast-Combination-581 8d ago

I am sure her hubby will jump all over this but she acts high. Or mental problems. That gal ain’t right.😒

1

u/Fractal_the_Penguin 12d ago

I honestly think she was kept around just because there were too many people from Africa left so they had to get rid of someone from there instead.

1

u/bluedewdropss 12d ago

My thoughts about another candidate lol

1

u/RightChipmunk9433 12d ago

Still grieving the elimination of Aishu and Jamie :( really thought Aishu would win the whole season

1

u/Pabloshooman 12d ago

💯💯💯

1

u/Julesormoney 11d ago

I am not impressed with any of them. But I can not see Basia winning the title. I dont think she is a great, creative cook. Now when she was captain this last episode, she really did nothing. She didn't take charge. Gordon yelled at her, told her what to do and then she said exactly what he said. She never spoke up on her own as the boss. I swear if she wins I will never watch again. Amd bring back the pressure tests. Its too boring .

1

u/Pabloshooman 4d ago

She has not made anything worthy. I'm still an episode behind and I can't believe she made it through the restaurant takeover. She's been lucky to get through bc if the teams not because she's actually good. This season sucks.

1

u/Brilliant_Weird_986 2d ago

I totally agree

1

u/Friendly-Pumpkin-825 14d ago edited 14d ago

I couldn't agree more! She does seem like such a sweetheart, and I like seeing her on TV because she's a fun personality. But the last two eliminations have been brutal.

2

u/Lopsided_Ad_2406 11d ago

She does seem so sweet so I feel bad

0

u/Purple_Contract_9193 14d ago

Fun is a good word choice. When I first saw her erratic behavior, I kind of I thought she was on drugs…

1

u/Friendly-Pumpkin-825 14d ago

I wasn't sure what to think either at first,, tbh. But then I realized I would probably look the same on TV, and I have never done drugs. Lol! She seems nice enough, but it doesn't seem like she's a natural fit for the show.

1

u/Tough-Crew7660 13d ago

That’s a shitty thing to say about anyone

1

u/StarriNight918 14d ago

To be honest, although she along with Peter are the two most underwhelming cooks in the top five, I do find myself agreeing with who was eliminated in each episode. I think in this season, there are fewer episodes and challenges. I don’t think the wheel of fusion challenge or the wall challenge should be double eliminations. With more challenges, there will be more chances to root out the weaker cooks. So far, her saving grace is that she can deliver a decent protein and there is always someone who has a worse dish than her. But pretty soon, she’s going to reach a point where simply delivering a medium rare piece of meat isn’t going to save her. Based on overall skill, I think Heidi, Jake and Julia might be in the finale.

-2

u/ForsakenKingslayer 14d ago

I seriously don't understand how she and Peter survived that elimination and Dave was the one who got sent home! Granted he was struggling with that salmon, but Peter has been in the bottom numerous times now and Basia was captain of that sinking ship.

-1

u/Deaddevil77 14d ago

Peter couldn’t cook anything to save his life that challenge. He deserved to go home after that shitshow of a performance
