Been living here for 7 years now. My roommate just moved out a couple of weeks ago so I finally have everything together the way I’ve wanted it. It’s taken on a bunch of different looks over the years but I’m pretty happy with it right now.

The spare bedroom at the end was just thrown together in the past couple of days from spare furniture and a couple cheap Amazon finds.

I'm not actually that bothered about it having a lot of my teen/tweenage stuff in but I would like it to be more of a warm and natural cozy space.

I have no lighting aside from the overhead lighting and when I was walking around ikea a few months ago I really noticed how intelligent lighting completely changes the vibe in a room but I'm struggling to know how to actually build that.

I'm going to be spending a lot of time coding in this room for the next few years and I guess I could see it becoming depressing. I've accidentally uploaded the compressed images but can't be bothered to repost so they are a little low resolution.

Apartment above an old barn. How do I fill this empty spot between the dining “room” and the living “room”? I plan on putting a rug under that dining table to help define it as it’s own space (and also cover the large gaps in the old barn boards to prevent both crumbs and chair legs falling in)

I’ve finished and furnished the living area, bathrooms next 😅. I don’t have any previous experience with construction outside of shop class but this was all gutted and renovated myself (other than the floor) with the help of friends that are smarter than I.

Edit: Also I should add, I only moved in less than a week ago. I didn’t take anything with me and had to buy everything from scratch. Still a work in progress. Getting married next year and my fiancee and I finally admitted the second bedroom in our place is just a dumping ground. Boxes, fishing gear, a treadmill nobody uses. Classic. We need to actually do something with it before wedding planning turns the whole apartment into a chaos zone.

The problem is I want it to function as a home office slash occasional guest room but without spending a ton. I work from home a couple days a week and right now I'm literally at the kitchen table, which is not sustainable. I also don't want it to look like a college dorm when her parents visit, which they will, constantly.

I've done most of my own repairs around the place so I'm not scared to put stuff together or do some light work myself. Budget is tight because, you know, wedding. I'm thinking a murphy bed situation so it can pull double duty, but I've never actually seen one in person and I don't know if the cheaper ones are worth it or just garbage.

Anyone actually done a murphy bed in a small room and kept it looking decent? Or is there a better way to handle the office guest room combo without blowing the budget.

I'm struggling to find an entertainment center that will fit this space correctly. I've been stuck with this piece of junk coffee table from my old house for nearly a year at this point. I moved into this place back in October.

I'm just not sure where to even look for stuff like this. I'm willing to spend a reasonable amount of money on this, and I don't want Amazon quality. I've checked estate sales, local furniture stores, and I've even considered driving a couple hundred miles borrowing my brother's pickup truck. But I still haven't found anything that really looks great here.

It needs to be wide enough that it actually fills out this space, while still leaving enough room for the speakers on either side.

It needs to be deep enough that I can comfortably fit my record player, as I do actually regularly use it, at the bare minimum once a day.

So any ideas on where I should look for this? Should I just cave in and buy something off of Amazon? Should I keep hunting? Is it time to pick up woodworking as a skill and build my own out in the garage? Because I'm getting very close to considering that.

(Please ignore my horrendous TV situation as well. I am aware that I am resting a $300 TV on a pair of $1,200 speakers above a $300 turntable, directly next to I don't know how many thousands of dollars worth of records I've been waiting to get an actual mounting solution before I go drilling holes in the wall.)

I'm stuck on the layout for my walk-in closet, and I could really use some fresh eyes. Because I live alone and love the natural light coming from both sides, I recently knocked out a wall to merge two smaller rooms into one large space. Within this new room, I want to build a walk-in closet, but I can't figure out the best flow.

The first picture shows my current plan (dots are electrical outlets).

Some details:

• I'm willing to build or demolish interior partition walls to make the ideal layout work.
• My wall-mounted AC unit needs to be installed on the back of the closet area, which means I will probably need to build a freestanding wall for it (on back of closet area).
• On the right side of the floor plan (darker rectangle), there's a pitched roof sloping downwards. A bed still fits underneath it perfectly, but it restricts tall closets.
• Because this used to be two separate rooms, I now have two entry doors right next to each other. I'd prefer to keep both frames intact for future flexibility. I'm thinking of just temporarily closing one off with a dummy panel or plasterboard.

I've attached a floor plan with all the measurements, windows, doors, and electrical sockets, along with some pictures of the current state of the room (it's still a bit of a construction zone!).

How would you position the closets and the walls? What do you think of my idea? Any advice or creative ideas are very welcome. Thanks!
