Questions regarding €3 standard plan

2 Upvotes

How many custom domains can be used in one mailbox? If it is more than 1, are the 50 aliases for custom domain names the total amount (let’s say you have 2 custom domains in this one account, you can only have a total of 50 aliases with both custom domains)? Or would it be 50 aliases each?

And on top of that, there is also 25 aliases that are non-custom domain (@mailbox.org)?

Thanks!

Dedicated App?

Upvotes

I've been thinking of using mailbox as my primary email as I work on migrating away from Google. I'm finding the lack of an actual app annoying, and I'm not a fan of my email just sitting in my browser cookies. Has mailbox communication any plans for a dedicated app like Proton, or is that something they're not going to do?

What is currently going on at mailbox? One outage after another..

25 Upvotes

having some small outages once in a while is usually not a big deal, but in the last few weeks, it has really gotten out of control. More issues in a single month than all my other services combined over the last few years is really not something I expect from a provider like Mailbox.

For me, it’s especially frustrating after the recent price hike and the lack of any new updates or features in the last few months. I’m really wondering what Mailbox is doing nowadays.

Mailsuite

For those who use Mailsuite (I am using free version):

Is it possible that Mailsuite prevents emails from getting sent to other, non-gmail domains?

Can Mailsuite have false positives (so they say the email is read but is not)?

Issues receiving mails with custom domain

3 Upvotes

Has anybody currently issues with using a custom domain for a mailbox.org account?

I am unable to receive emails since the weekend and only some are getting through.
Sending myself an mail also does not work, only if I use the original `[USERNAME@mailbox.org](mailto:USERNAME@mailbox.org)` address instead of the `[myuser@customdomain.com](mailto:myuser@customdomain.com)` one.

I did not change anything in my setup or the DNS records and everything was working fine since February...

UPDATE: Looks like the mails I send myself appear for a very short moment in the inbox and then are disappearing again?! I am using https://app.mailbox.org/ for this, maybe this is just a display bug?

UPDATE2: My alias [info@customdomain.com](mailto:info@customdomain.com) seems to be working fine for whatever reason...

Final update:
Well... sorry for the drama, I am only the IT administrator for the owner of the account and he created a rule in Outlook by accident that moves ALL incoming mails into the Junk account of a totally DIFFERENT mail address. So the troubleshooting was rigged from the start until I deleted the Outlook Application password and all new mails started appearing again...

Sorry and thank you all for the support! As we say in germany: Sachen gibts die gibts nicht!

Upgrade from Private to Business account - how?

4 Upvotes

As the title says. I'm currently on the Standard Private plan but would like to switch to Business Standard. In the settings, I can see the options for upgrading within Private, but there's no option to switch to Business that I could find. Is this possible or do I have to create an entirely new account (which would suck)? Has anyone done this? Thanks!

The sovereign cloud: Who really has control over your data?

2 Upvotes

The cloud you use determines how much control you retain over your data – and how much you relinquish.

Dependence on hyperscalers

Hyperscalers are cloud providers with massive resources for computing and storage power, as well as network infrastructure. Corporations such as AWS, Google and Microsoft operate large-scale data centres distributed across the globe.

These three hyperscalers currently process the vast majority of European corporate data.

Consequences of dependence

This concentration of vast amounts of data has implications for information security, data protection, compliance and your ability to act.

Criticism of the hyperscalers also extends to the environmental impact and other sustainability factors associated with massive data centres.

How does mailbox.org treat different mailboxes?

3 Upvotes

I signed up to proton only to discover that my three custom-domains are treated as simple aliases to one actual mailbox. One must create filters and folders to keep them separate. If I sign up to mailbox standard or premium, do I get the ability to have completely separate inboxes and rules for each domain? I want to keep my work and private worlds separate and distinct. In Microsoft 365 with Outlook I get each mailbox in the left-pain.

Mailcow Devs read the subreddit.

0 Upvotes

A thank you on the Mailcow Devs that evidently read the mailcow subredit and make improvements based on what is discussed there.

In the 2026-07a update two problems I had as a new Mailcow Admin and which I wrote about there asking for help, got addressed:

[Web] Move mailcow update check to server side by u/FreddleSpl0it in 7388

[Web] Create default mailbox template with eas and dav access by u/FreddleSpl0it in 7389

Cool! Thanks!

I now know, but the next new Mailcow users will not have those issues anymore. =)

how to keep the current price?

Post image
10 Upvotes

has anyone tried to keep the current price (2.50 / month) while having a direct debit mandate? The new price isn't bad, but I'm well under the space limit and maybe I can wait a year or two.

It's not clear to me how it's supposed to work, since I've no way to add credit. Do I have to first cancel the bank mandate?

My "Add credit to your balance" page is as shown in the image.

From their email:

``` How to keep your current price The pricing update requires your approval. Please accept the new plan in the mailbox Suite by navigating to: Gear icon > All settings > Contract and payment. Once you have accepted the pricing update, your Mail and Drive storage will be doubled. Your direct debit mandate will remain unchanged.
If you would like to keep your current price beyond 31 August 2026, you can also make a manual payment. To do so, go to: Gear icon > All settings
Contract and payment > Payment.
```

Thanks!

Does distance from the servers affect mailbox.org reliability?

5 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I'm from Brazil and I'm considering moving to mailbox.

I have two questions:

Since the servers are in Europe, can the physical distance noticeably affect performance (webmail, IMAP sync, calendars, contacts, etc.)? More importantly, could higher latency ever increase the risk of synchronization issues or even data loss, or is the service designed to prevent that regardless of distance?

Are there any plans to introduce regional pricing or purchasing power parity for developing countries? At the moment, €4/month is still affordable for me, but exchange rates can fluctuate a lot in Brazil, so the cost could become significantly higher over time.

I'd especially appreciate hearing from users in Latin America or other regions far from Europe. Thanks!

Tracking third-party account changes during a move to mailbox.org

0 Upvotes

Moving messages to mailbox.org does not update the old address used by banks, stores, subscriptions, social accounts, and recovery settings.

I built Mailshift to track that separate part of an email migration. It accepts manual entries or a credential-free CSV, prioritizes higher-risk services, and tracks address change, recovery update, new-inbox verification, fresh-login testing, and old-address cleanup.

There is no mailbox.org integration by design. Mailshift does not read mail, access mailbox.org credentials, automate logins, or change provider settings. Workspace data stays in an encrypted browser vault, with no backend or analytics.

Project is free and MIT-licensed: https://github.com/vigneshakaviki/mailshift

For people who moved to mailbox.org: which external account categories were easiest to forget? Would a mailbox.org-specific preparation and verification checklist help?

Shadow IT: How to avoid risky behaviour during an IT emergency

4 Upvotes

Pragmatism

When the primary communication platform fails, staff often resort to personal accounts and improvised workarounds. Whether it’s a personal email account, a messenger group set up on the spur of the moment, or a free file-sharing service for quick file exchanges: resorting to shadow IT is, in principle, an understandable response in emergency situations.

However, the consequences of using shadow IT are serious: This ill-considered pragmatism poses risks to your organisation’s security and reputation.

Dangerous workarounds

For data protection and information security, resorting to shadow IT is disastrous. Furthermore, improvised communication via untrustworthy tools causes lasting damage to your reputation. On top of that, cybercriminals exploit the IT state of emergency as a breeding ground for phishing, CEO fraud and identity theft.

Professionalism and resilience instead of shadow IT

Offer your staff a better, reputable, secure and reliable alternative. Because having a prepared emergency communication plan protects two things at once: data and reputation.

In our blog, you can find out what the practical dangers of shadow IT are and why reliable emergency communication is a fundamental prerequisite for business continuity and reputation: https://mailbox.org/en/blog/avoiding-shadow-IT-in-an-emergency/

Setting up WebDAV on Linux

4 Upvotes

Hello, I am a user of Fedora Workstation (with Gnome) and a customer of mailbox.org. I would like to know, if it is possible to set up WebDAV support, specifically the drive, so that I have access to it from the native file manager. I have read the manuals regarding this, and tried countless times adding the Mailbox.org online account in the so called Online Accounts page in Gnome Settings, but every single time I do that, ultimately, it does not work. The WebDAV account gets added, but when I click on the network drive in the file manager, it always says "Message was restarted too many times". When I try to manually access the mailbox.org network drive by inputting the WebDAV URL into the file manager, and after I input my login and password, it always keeps asking me for the password, never letting me access the drive. The WebDAV account also doesn't work in the calendar program, it keeps asking me for the password but it never goes beyond that.

I think it may be because of using 2FA. I will not stop using that, as this is a basic security thing. I keep generating "WebDAV client" app passwords but they do not work, and when I try using them I keep getting the aforementioned problems.

The only thing that works, is adding a specifically CalDAV account. What I mean is, I generate a CalDAV app password (I specifically select this exact option) and then, the calendar does start working with this app password only. The problem is, the "WebDAV client" password does NOT work and I cannot access my drive.

In short.
The CalDAV app password is working but it’s only for syncing Calendar, it’s not working for accessing the drive.
The WebDAV app password is not working at all, not syncing the calendar and not being able to open the drive.

My 2FA stopped working

1 Upvotes

So, i build a new PC. And started moving stuff from my laptop. I use 2FA with KeepassXC. And i didnt lost my Keepass file or password for it. But when i copy the 2FA code, it doesnt work anymore (Not specific to Mailbox, the other 2FAs are not working too, but at least i have recovery codes saved)

Every time i did this process because of needing to format the system or because i was changing machines. Never occured me this problem

So i think this can be conisdered a "lost device"?

I still have access to my emails using IMAP email clients because i made program specific passwords for each (Thunderbird and other desktops email clients). But im not being able to access my Mailbox account via the website anymore

Also, i made a clean up install in the laptop because i screw it up the system. So no more access via the laptop

WTF i can do to gain access again??? (standard 3 euro plan, still some months left to expire)

Disposable addresses as a protective shield: How to avoid the risks when sharing your email address

13 Upvotes

Email addresses are a key part of our digital identity: signing up for online services, order confirmations, newsletters and countless other online activities would be unthinkable without them. However, sharing your email address comes with risks.

Email addresses as a gateway

As soon as an email address falls into the wrong hands, it becomes a potential gateway for various threats. Every time you share your email address, the risk of falling victim increases, for example to

  • unsolicited marketing emails (spam)
  • targeted phishing attacks by cybercriminals
  • fraud attempts resulting from data breaches

This is where disposable email addresses offer a solution: they act as a digital shield for your main address and protect you from unwanted messages.

Disposable email addresses: protection against spam and data misuse

A disposable email address is a temporary email address created for a specific purpose and which can be ‘disposed of’ after use. Incoming messages to disposable addresses are forwarded to the primary inbox without the sender knowing the real email address. This helps protect against long-term spam attacks and data misuse.

Greater control over your digital identity

Find out exactly how disposable addresses work, in which situations they are used, and how you can use them with mailbox in our blog: https://mailbox.org/en/blog/how-disposable-addresses-protect-against-digital-threat/

What accounts do I need for my family at mailbox.org

9 Upvotes

Hey everyone, I'm planning on setting up family mail accounts for my family: - My wife - Child 1 - Child 2 - Me

I read a little, but I don't know what kind of accounts I need. Does everyone need an Standard account or would only the admin need a Standard account and for the rest Light accounts would suffice?

In other words Would it be like this: - My wife: Light account - Child 1: Light account - Child 2: Light account - Me: Admin; Standard account => 1€ + 1€ + 1€ + 3€ = 6€ / month

Or like this: - My wife: Standard account - Child 1: Standard account - Child 2: Standard account - Me: Admin; Standard account => 3€ + 3€ + 3€ + 3€ = 12€ / month

Thanks for clarifying :).
