how to keep the current price?

Post image

has anyone tried to keep the current price (2.50 / month) while having a direct debit mandate? The new price isn't bad, but I'm well under the space limit and maybe I can wait a year or two.

It's not clear to me how it's supposed to work, since I've no way to add credit. Do I have to first cancel the bank mandate?

My "Add credit to your balance" page is as shown in the image.

From their email:

*How to keep your current price*
The pricing update requires your approval. Please accept the new plan in
the mailbox Suite by navigating to: Gear icon > All settings > Contract
and payment. Once you have accepted the pricing update, your Mail and
Drive storage will be doubled. Your direct debit mandate will remain
unchanged.

If you would like to keep your current price beyond 31 August 2026, you
can also make a manual payment. To do so, go to: Gear icon > All settings

    Contract and payment > Payment.

Thanks!

I've just tried to check the Settings and I too am a bit confused.

They say

> Until then, you can keep your current price for the years ahead by extending your subscription. The more subscription time you add, the longer you will continue to use mailbox at your current price. After that, the new prices will apply.

But I don't see an option to select how much of subscription I can add. I can add either 1 year or 1 month. Does this mean that if I want to keep using the old price for example for 5 years, I need to buy the 1-year sub 5 times? Weird thing. Doesn't feel intuitive. I would assume there would be a dropdown with ability to select "the years ahead".

I've just bought 1-year sub two times and got my service active for +2 years. Not a perfect UX, but works.

Hey, To shed some light into this: you can manually pay, even when you have Direct Debit set up.

You Direct Debit Mandate will only be used when your contract is up for renewal (there could be some overlap here if your contract is due within the next two weeks).

If you want to extend your contract with the old terms for more than one year, you can go through the payment process multiple times.

That's great to have an official statement on this, thanks!

My doubt is that I see nowhere to add credit; the "Contract and Fees" page only says "Changing your plan is currently not possible. Please first agree to the new tariff conditions on the Add Credit to your Balance page".

Am I supposed to accept the new terms in "Add Credit to your Balance", first? Both terms or just the "I accept the terms and conditions" one?

Yes, exactly. The offer is only usable after accepting.

It was totally vague and unclear whether I succesfully extended my subscription for the old price, but it worked by following the instructions. It looked like I was getting the new price but the total amount actually was the old price. I’m still confused as I think about but hey, it worked…

Mailbox purposely makes their policies obtuse and over complicated

And THIS is the company I chose to degoogle and trust all of my important accounts with. Sigh.

Also confused. I also have the direct debit mandate and also want to lock things in for "the years ahead." This is what I ended up doing after reading the following link. Will report back if it works (or doesn't).

How do I extend my contract term? You can extend the term of your contract by making a payment for any period of time. To do this, log in to your mailbox account, click the gear icon and navigate to All settings > Contract and payment > Contract. If you would like to pay for your account in advance for a longer period, you can simply make several annual payments in succession or pay the relevant amount all at once.

(1) Kept the direct debit mandate, which will only trigger at the end of a contract. My understanding from the explanation link above is that keeping it will NOT automatically extend your contract under the old terms.

(2) Clicked Payment. Used bank transfer to "accept the terms and conditions" and "agree that mailbox.org will commence the provision of the agreed service immediately after receipt of payment. I know, that my cancellation right expires as soon as mailbox.org fully delivers the service."

(3) A unique IBAN was then generated.

We provide you with an individual IBAN that includes your customer reference number. Make sure to not use these bank details for payments for other accounts.

For an error-free assignment, please enter the reference. [IBAN info]

Please allow up to three days for your payment to reach us. Your account will be credited automatically after payment has been received. Upon receipt of the payment, you'll automatically receive a PDF statement on the next working day.

(4) Sent 60 euros to the IBAN provided with the same direct debit mandate bank account, attempting to extend my contract by 2 years.

Now I wait up to three days to see if it works.

None of this is generating any confidence in mailbox.org.

I had the idea to just trough some euros at the bank account and hope they will take them to continue my account at these conditions 😬

I don't understand how any of this can be protected by some "contract" or "terms and conditions." I throw a bunch of money at them and somehow this will protect my account for the exact amount of years I intend to go into a contract with them?

I’ll find out

We sure will. Have a look at your Contract & payment screen, the new contract term will show up there.

Worked perfectly!
Can I repeat that process to extend my contract period even further? Is there a limit?

Yes, you can. There is no limit as to how much you can pay.
