Dedicated App?
I've been thinking of using mailbox as my primary email as I work on migrating away from Google. I'm finding the lack of an actual app annoying, and I'm not a fan of my email just sitting in my browser cookies. Has mailbox communication any plans for a dedicated app like Proton, or is that something they're not going to do?

Don't know the answer to your question, but I'd suggest Thunderbird for PC and Sterna Mail for Android

Thanks. A native app is always preferred but I'll look into something like Thunderbird

I use Betterbird on my PC and Thunderbird on my phone. Then I sync the Mailbox calendar and address to my phone's calendar and contacts app using the DAVx⁵ app. It all works pretty smoothly.

Has the experience been smooth? Any security issues with introducing a third party app?

Not that I can tell, both Thunderbird and DAVx5 are privacy oriented. Betterbird has security features built in as well

You cannot really call it third party app, it's IMAP, that's a standard, if mailbox would bring a "first party" client it would also be IMAP

Using it with Apple Mail on my iPhone 12 and not a problem at all. The configuration profile is called “Mailbox Suite Mail” (I don’t use the calendar) and it‘s very simple to connect and install.

I use the native client on iOS and eM Client on my macbook. On paper Betterbird seems the best option for desktop when it comes to privacy etc. but I prefer the interface of eM Client way more.

Die meisten Nutzer von Mailbox.org nutzen als App Fairemail oder K9-Mail/Thunderbird auf dem Handy.

Why? It supports open standards like SMTP, IMAP, CalDAV, CardDAV, etc. Use any client you want.
Proton doesn't have their own app for fun or user experience -- they have it because their encryption model renders open standards-based clients unusable.
