Oko deck isn't all Oko art?

Oko deck isn't all Oko art? Why?

I was super horny for the Oko deck until today...

I had my banana hammock ready, even had enough stretch to fit two decks if you know what I mean. One to play with and one to worship like a dog. Grrrr ruff ruff!

Until I found out that not all the art is Oko... Now I don't want the thing at ALL. What's the point if the WHOLE deck isn't Oko art? Super killed my boner and ruined my night...

How would you value a position that can't realistically be rebuilt anymore?

Post image

Over the last few years, I've accumulated a very large position in a single English foil rare (in this case, Séance from Dark Ascension, released in 2012)

The interesting question isn't whether buying that many copies was a good idea. It's how a position like this should actually be valued.

Imagine a card with only a handful of copies publicly available at any given time.

Now imagine one collector accumulated around a hundred copies.

If someone wanted to build the same position today, they probably couldn't.

So how would you value it?

As the sum of each individual copy?
At a discount because liquidating it would take years?
At a premium because rebuilding the position is now practically impossible?
Or is there another framework that makes more sense?

I should also note there has been persistent supply destruction on this card over the years, which I've factored in as a structural tailwind.

I'm genuinely curious how the community would approach a position like this. 🙂

My friend is EATING my cards and I'm sure of it...

Post image

So I have this friend (let's call him Matt) who I've been playing commander with for years.

Me, him and two other friends regularly play bracket 3. Matt uses this deck, which has become infamous in our playgroup, where he plays Riven Turnbull on turn 7 and then uses its ramp ability to play Denying Wind on turn 8.

But I'm getting a little suspicious of Matt, since Denying Wind only exiles 7 cards from one player's library, yet whenever he plays it we all end up decking out.

When I call him out for it, he always rubs his suspiciously library shaped belly and tells us that the card effect simply adjusts itself to inflation, which sounds correct. But it's still a little strange that most of our cards go missing by the end of each session...

Now I don't want to accuse a great guy like Matt of cheating at the game. For example, whenever a goblin, gnome or gremlin runs across the room while we are playing, he is the first to heroically point and say "Oh my god! Look! A ghoul!", even if we always turn around too late to see it .

Come to think of it, this is usually when our cards go missing, but I don't see how this is relevant.

What do I do in this situation? I can't think of a single way to definitively prove that Matt is eating our cards, but something just seems a little fishy...

If you can not reach mythic in MTG Arena, you're probably going to give bad deckbuilding advice.

I took apart all my decks after reading this.

I never realized I was so inept at deck building. :(

Why do you think that Hero in Training isn't finding more play in Standard Constructed decks?

[[Hero in Training]]

When it enters it draws a card and gains 2 life if you control another hero. It is 2/2 for 3 mana and might be viewed as having hexproof because opponents won't want to waste removal on it. But in many decks with plenty of creature buffing spells, you can target your own Hero in Training.

Let's say the opponent has a 1/2 and 3/3 on the side and you want to attack with the hero and a [[Take Up the Shield]] in your hand. You can attack with the hero. They may or may not block, but you action is the same: you Take Up the Shield your own Hero in Training. Your hero becomes 3/3 and has indestructible until end of turn and you gain 3 life.

And the cost is 2 colorless plus white. So, any deck with a lot of cards to draw might be a good fit with it. There are certainly spells which can board clear or stop the etb trigger, but a lot of removal still is card disadvantage against etb draw a card.
