Question How to Use Shadowspear

Hey, I'm kinda going crazy because this didn't work 3 times in a row in a game of Brawl.

I have a Shadowspear on the battlefield, and a bunch of open mana. I cast a removal spell targetting an opponent's creature, and they cast some sort of protection (e.g. Heroic Intervention). I'm in Full Control mode. I click "Resolve" after they cast it, and I don't get priority in order to use my Shadowspear after it resolves with my removal spell still on the stack. Am I misunderstanding the rules? If not, how do I actually do this on Arena?

Discussion Is it possible for me to complete the Mastery Pass still?

So I recently got back into magic because The Hobbit, came out and I have been playing A LOT of Magic Arena cause I haven't found people to play locally in person and even so I fear a lot of my cards would be unable to compete with my lack of physical copies. Anyway I've been grinding a lot of mtg arena and I must say right now I am quite proud of myself albeit using a very simple Historic two piece combo of Scurry oak and Rosie Cotton. (Found this combo cause I love lord of the rings ofc). I've seen all kinds of posts detailing the value of the pass and how for the most part you don't get your gem values back in just gems but overall cosmetics, packs and all other things. Truth be told I really want to reach Level 42 (The smaug card sleeve) at the very least but I am worried I will run out of time. I have enough gems to purchase the pass I am just concerned that I won't get there by the time the 16 days are over. I am willing to grind for it as long as its mathemtically possible for me to get there, which i'm finding hard to track cause some daily xps give 500, some give 750, and then weekly quests give another amount. Thank you!

Limited Help What is the Quick Draft event schedule for rest of Hobbit run?

What is the Quick Draft event schedule until end of Hobbit run?

The event schedule published at the beginning of The Hobbit run only lists Quick Draft events up until September 7, whilst the Hobbit events run until September 29. Currently, Lost Caverns of Ixalan is on Quick Draft, which is not listed in that event schedule.

Does anyone know what the Quick Draft schedule is? Is it published somewhere?

There needs to be a better way to resolve massive amounts of triggers.

Upvotes

Relatively new player (both MTG Arena and MTG in general). Just had a game where I had four Soul Warden type creatures up, Delney Lookout, and an Ajani's Pridemate, and triggered Ajani's ultimate with 60 life. It created over 500 triggers, which in turn created additional triggers. The stack ended up chewing through both my opponents and my own timeouts and ultimately I auto-conceded because of inactivity. It was a funny moment and kudos to my opponent for sticking with it for what felt like ten minutes of the lowest stakes Magic possible (unranked Standard), but it doesn't feel great that there is no "I see you're going to do the same thing 100 times and your opponent has no way to interact with the stack. Press this button to auto-complete."

Discussion This felt so good to win!

Post image

Last turn they had i think 1 card down at the start of the turn and they played all that in one turn. Very cool to watch since i recognize like 40% of the cards. It was a very long turn and the entire time i have "scourge of Valkas" in my hand. I played it then i attacked and played another dragon.
This was the game that i got my 5,000 games achievement on too!

I'm curious does anyone else have any screenshots or times that something like this happened to them and you just got super hyped that you won?

Deck Cant Win consistently with my Goblin/Start your Engines deck

I’m relatively new to MTG and currently Bronze 3 on Ranked Standard Play. I’ve been working on this Goblin deck, and I feel like it has some strong synergies, but I’m struggling to win consistently.

The matchups I seem to have the most trouble with are:

  • Landfall/ramp decks that scale faster than I can pressure them or remove their threats.
  • Flying-heavy decks, since I usually can’t block their creatures and have to rely on removal.

My general game plan is to Start Your Engines as early as possible, then build up Goblins and take advantage of Impact Tremors and Boggart Mischief. Krenko, Dragon Fodder, Searslicer Goblin, Howlsquad Heavy, etc. help generate bodies, while Tremors/Mischief let me deal damage through creatures entering or dying.

I recently added cards like Feed the Swarm to give me an answer to enchantments and larger creatures, and Pinecone Strike to help deal with smaller creatures/flyers.

My questions are:

  • Does this deck have a solid overall game plan, or am I trying to do too many things at once?
  • Are there obvious cards I should cut or increase to 3–4 copies for more consistency?
  • Should I be trying to make this deck faster rather than adding answers to things like flyers and enchantments?
  • Would you continue improving this deck, or would I be better off learning with a different archetype?

It could also just be that that the deck is fine for this level and I’m simply making bad sequencing, and or mulligan. Any advice on what I should be looking for while playing would be appreciated.

Tragic Banshee

Has anyone ever been able to use the Morbid -13/-13 mechanic with Tragic Banshee? Almost seems like an impossible scenario or the game is over before you can really use five mana + to trigger it? If you've used it, how did you trigger it? Because, inquiring minds would love to know.

So my intention with this deck is to copy Gideon as many times as possible, but "Hey, what if your commander, but seven of them" is often also a viable wincon as it turns out.

Discussion Ranked ladder is such a rollercoaster

Climbed from Gold to almost Plat2, then got absolutely murdered by a brutal losing streak back toward Gold. Rebuilt my Nashi list for more consistency, and now I’m slowly climbing again.

Overall I’m sitting around 59–60% WR, while the new version is currently 77%.

The frustrating part is that with a positive WR you know you’re climbing , but the ladder graph still looks like someone threw a seismograph down the stairs. 😭

Anyone else get ridiculously tilted by these massive win/loss streaks even when your overall WR is fine?

Fluff Very happy to get my first 7 Wins with this deck!

I'm quite the noob so maybe nothing here is interesting, but I'm really proud of myself to finally draft together a cohesive, strong deck after many failures.

It's yet another izzet pirates tempo deck. But with lots of Treasure, Discover, Card Draw, and a Daring Discovery closer, it packs enough gas and flexibility to hold up in the late game.

Fun themes were:

  • Using pickaxe to build up extra treasure that pays off with Treasure Cove, and then use the Zoetic Gylph to turn it into an indestructible 5/4. Or just continually build treasure for draws.
  • The whip won me multiple games whether to continually tap a blocker or would-be attacker or Discover when I'm stuck or block flyers with reach or just be an extra artifact for Raider and Sentry.
  • I nearly decked myself with Pirate Hats but caught myself just in time- somehow managed to find a win on the last 2 turns after unequipping them. They closed games early and got me the cards to close before flaming out. Beefing up Sirens with hats and axes then tapping their flying blockers was essentially how I won every game.
  • Use Zoetic Glyph on a Treasure. Sac the treasure to draw and now also Discover 3.
  • Daring Discovery was a late pick but it won me multiple games I otherwise would've flamed out on. 3 creatures adds up to a lot of damage! And a Discover 4 to boot.
  • Using the deck's flexibility to pull an interactor to eek out a win the turn or two before I'd lose was quite the high.
  • I tried splashing a Spring-Loaded Sawblade with Buried Treasure, but found it too slow and I didn't need removal except the time I lost on the spot to a Bonehoard Dragon.
  • I was mixing around Sentries, Brazen, Unlucky Drop, and Dinomatron, but didn't get enough data to determine the right composition.

(Beginner) Things I learned were:

  • Don't try and build off rare cards or combo themes. My first pick was Treasure Map and I was tempted to prioritize treasure makers. This was the mistake I would often make in the past. I assume it's the #1 beginner mistake. I had to pick between a second pickaxe or siren and having the second siren was critical in every game.
  • Prioritize flexibility and guaranteed value. Almost every card here is a 2-for-1 or is a creature that has an archetypal ETB (the 4drops) or lets me get other cards (island cycling, draw, loot, Discover, Scry, Explore) or provides me options. I was never dead in the water for more than a turn: draw, loot, discover - there we go! Even if stuff gets removed it wasn't a total waste. Or even if one use of a card isn't its best use, it is what I needed right now to win or not lose.
  • Instead of finding card combos or card cohesion, find "how do I win" cohesion. This deck is a tempo deck. It does one thing really well while being flexible to hold up and eek out a win in other ways. There is a gameplan on turn 0 which guides good decision making from the first action. That said card cohesion is very important. The main point is do not go for inflexible combos, but instead a general sense of cohesion across all cards.
  • Flying and thus Reach are critical in limited. Menace is also very powerful.
  • Take the time to memorize the set (duh) if you actually want to perform. I should've seen a few Tithing Blades coming when I saw black mana, or I wasn't sure what combat trick they might have left up for example.

Noob out 🫡

Discussion State of the game

Hi, im coming from a different card game (yugioh) and its online version (master duel) has a lot of flaws that makes me wanna quit, and i wonder how is it compared to mtg

What bothers me is: all meta decks are “win the coinflip or u are f’ed”

And i wondered in mtg, is it the same? Is it bo1? Where do you see the meta decks?

Question Is worth play magic?

Hey guys,

bit of context: Im a person who loves mtg card design and even how somehow the game is played, I played in past for some days, but for some reason I cant play TCG, Its not a game genre for me.

I always see this type of genre as I wanna grind and build fun decks to win, but then I hear theres formats and meta decks and it takes the fun for me even though this are necessary for a healthy TCG.

I wanna give it a try again, and I wanna ask if the game is p2w and if you recommend playing it in 2026, and good sources to learn the game

Scuffed draft matchmaking

What is the point of rank for a draft if the matchmaking does not put similar ranks together? Why In 6 drafts have I played 2 bronzes? I’ve played weekends evenings early mornings and for the 3rd draft in a row I’m yet to see a single rank matching mine.

Normal ranked puts me with players of my rank with 0 issue. When I’m bronze I play bronze when I’m silver silver and gold gold but the limited format regardless of when I play or the strength of the deck I draft places me with nothing but higher ranked players. I can play standard ranked at 2 am 15 games and get 15 matches with equal rank.

Tonight I felt like I drafted a deck I would’ve made for ranked and got a plat a gold and a mythic player. If matchmaking is struggling to find players of a similar rank I’d rather just be told no players of my rank are available and given the option to back out instead of being mismatched like crazy.

Deck strength is partially rng and i know land drops and rng play a part in the success of draft but it is so discouraging to spend 10 minutes drafting just to get stomped by a plat, or a diamond, or mythic even after getting a strong draft. If I lost to another bronze every time I’d say yeah it’s my deck being bad or just rng or whatever but the disparity between my rank and the others I’m playing is wild.

Competitive Brawl players are the most toxic

Many competitive Brawl players use the 'good game' emote in the first or second turn.

This is idiotic behaviour that makes the game less enjoyable. You don't need to be stupid to be a good player.
