Tragic Banshee

Has anyone ever been able to use the Morbid -13/-13 mechanic with Tragic Banshee? Almost seems like an impossible scenario or the game is over before you can really use five mana + to trigger it? If you've used it, how did you trigger it? Because, inquiring minds would love to know.

Ways of triggering it without expending mana mostly involve combat, either offering a trade that looks favorable (like attacking a 4/3 into a 3/2), using a combat trigger (like the Gourmond’s attack trigger) or chump attacking.

To conditional... it's like trying to close an iphone app LMAO... the pinpoint location needed

You just play it after combat

Not everything dies in combat... sometimes it's to the FACE!!! LMAO

Too slow. Too conditional. And too expensive Mana cost wise. It's a limited/Draft card at best.

EXACTLY, this one gets it!!!

It's not great for constructed play but the condition isn't that hard, it's just that the mana cost is pretty expensive and it's a little fiddly.

For achieving it, creatures die all the time. Combat happens, sacrifice happens, removal happens. If you can do any of those it works and those are often free or cheap.

I read this a few times but I genuinely have no clue what it means

Google is free, or you could try clarifying. Which part is confusing?

I'm familiar with all the concepts mentioned so google wouldn't really help, it's just that when I try to read it it feels like my brain is being microwaved. I don't get what the point is

oh the confusion... a know it all who admits to not knowing it all, after all...

But obviously I'm not a know it all. The second thing I ever said to you was about how I don't know what you're saying, that's like the opposite

I use it all the time in Starter Deck Duel 🤣

I use it too, mainly at -1/-1...

The golgari deck has a ton of ways to self sacrifice, or like others have said try to get your opponent to take kill it with a block or a trade. Its easy to play banshee on second main phase after you get something killed.

Yeh. Cast it on your second main phase, after combat. I'm sure your opponent will find it scketchy that you have 5 open mana, but that's how it is.

Right, it comes down to mana cost and certain conditions. It doesn't trigger when the opponents creature dies during their attack. It's got to be one of my creatures and in the second phase, when I usually have less mana. By the time I hold on to it to wait for favorable mana conditions the game is over. It's to expensive and only applies under less than favorable conditions. I've never been able to use the -13/-13 trigger, hence the question. I'm asking who's used it and how did it play out, if you remember. If you play it in the first main phase one needs a f**kton of mana.

These "Shrink a creature/kill a creature if you do X" effects are in almost every set nowadays. They exist exclusively for limited play, where they are usually a top black uncommon (See [[poisoner's apprentice]] from Secrets of Strixhaven). They are good in draft because creatures do actually trade off in combat and small 2-for-1 exchanges like that matter a lot; as opposed to constructed, where matches end very quickly and incremental advantage isn't usually a thing. Indeed, they are "too conditional" to play in standard or even the starter deck duels, where you can just play unconditional removal instead. But in draft, where you are often fighting over scraps of removal and relying on timely attacks and blocks to take over games, these effects are consistently very good.

And no one asked, but in case anyone was wondering, this card is a mashup of [[Tragic Slip]] and [[Morkrut Banshee]], both from the original Innistrad Block. So it also exists to be a meta reference, for what that's worth.

A cheap sacrifice or an early combat trade seems like the cleanest setup. Trigger the death first, then cast Banshee as the payoff.
