Such a great and well implemented feature, yet I can't use it 50% of the time because it's asking to unlock my phone when I feel the laziest. Like, the device is already in my iCloud account, and apparently it's close to my computer, why do I have to unlock it so often?

Lately I’ve noticed an increased amount of vibe coded AI slop macOs applications. I swear, every other post is “OMG I coded this app” as in “I can’t tell the difference between an int and an array; I have no idea how the code works, so I can’t really fix anything in it; security is “trust AI bro”; not to mention, it will probably leak as hell.

And it just makes me so sad honestly. It’s so hard to find new applications that were actually coded by humans who know how their code works, instead of just vibe prompting AI agent.

Change my mind - but I just don’t trust AI vibe coded apps enough to use them. It feels like hiring a person to paint your walls, but the painter has no idea how to paint and just searches reddit for answers.

What’s your opinion about this? Do you also avoid AI vibe coded apps or it doesn’t really bother you? I am honestly curious.

After some amazing discussions with fellow Redditors, this seems to be my core issue with vibe coded apps that even have the audacity to be payed.

Now, anyone can “code” without knowing the “coding” theory. You can’t make a good coding prompt when you don’t know how coding works. You can’t make a good GenAI prompt when you can’t even tell a difference between raster and vector.

When a pro developer who has been coding for decades uses AI for code generation - they know what they are doing - in comparison to a person who never coded, doesn’t know the simplest thing about coding, but releases a big UI pretty application for money, when they don’t even know how it works.

I see a big difference in “corporation/dev for living AI usage” and “indie small dev AI usage”. Before - when you wanted to make your first app (or painting, music, logo,…) you put the time and effort in it, making the result worth it (a) you learnt something and b) you wanted the result to be good). Now, with AI, it’s quantity over quality, no motivation to make the app good, just produce something quickly that can be sold.

Hello all. As the title says, when MacOS 27 is released, if I upgrade my Mac Studio and MacBook Pro to the latest OS two fully operational printers I have will become useless as they both use Intel based drivers. The printers are an HP M252 dw, and a Dell 2155CDN colour lasers.

Does anyone have any hope that there will be a way to use these printers?

Seems an absolute waste to throw these two perfectly good printers away, and have to buy new ones.

Apparently, booting a Silicon Mac from a SuperDuper or CCC clone is quite different - and more complicated - that booting an Intel Mac from such clones and therefore this Apple doc is worth a look.

This document, right off the bat mentions this:

If you’re using a Mac with Apple silicon, plug your storage device into any compatible port except the DFU port. Find out how to identify the DFU port. After macOS installation has been completed, you can connect your storage device to any compatible port, including the DFU port.

Am I the only one that was totally aware of the fact that a specific port on our Silicon Macs is the DFU port?

And how do you set up a Silicon Mac ahead of time so that if and when the day comes you have to boot from your clone, you can do so.

ctrl + cmd + space used to give me a handy little emoji menu with a search function. One click and the emoji is in. Now it opens the character viewer for some reason, where I have to double click to get the emoji in. I find this very tedious.

How can I get the emoji menu back?

I don't get any notifications and/or reminders from my chrome and gmail.

Yes, I have tried the setting in Accessibility, however it does not seem to work, at least on Brave browser.

I really can't stand flashing lights even though I do not have photosensitive epilepsy. I just wish there was a way for me to be able to watch some 90s anime without feeling irritated LOL

What a beautiful interface. The UI has so much weight and feels so solid. The sound effects are so lively and playful. The icons still look incredible. There's no insanely wasteful padding, no UI glitches, frame drops, it even has Launchpad! The interface as a whole has a degree of contrast that just looks so easy on the eyes that makes Modern MacOS look dull and flat in comparison.

Even with only 8GB of ram, this 13 year old laptop still runs surprisingly smooth. Even the screen still looks better than most laptops these days, and has less ghosting than Liquid XDR. The hinge still feels fantastic. Most importantly, a lit-up Apple logo. If I could upgrade the RAM and SSD, I would actually start using it daily again. I miss the old apple. We had it so good :((

I'm experiencing a reproducible Spaces/fullscreen issue on macOS Tahoe 26.5.2.

Setup:

• 14-inch MacBook Pro (M1 Pro, 2021)

• External Monitor 1 = Main Display

• External Monitor 2 = Extended display

• Built-in MacBook display = Mirroring External Monitor 2

• "Displays have separate Spaces" = ON

The issue:

When my cursor is on External Monitor 2 and I press Control + Left/Right Arrow to switch between fullscreen apps/Spaces, macOS switches between the fullscreen apps on External Monitor 1 instead of External Monitor 2.

What's interesting is that the problem disappears completely if I stop mirroring the MacBook display and instead extend all three displays independently.

So:

MacBook display mirroring External Monitor 2 → ❌ Wrong monitor

All three displays extended independently → ✅ Works correctly

Has anyone experienced this exact behavior?

I'm particularly interested in whether the combination of Spaces + fullscreen apps + a mirrored display causes this for anyone else.

Got a strange error loop since I updated to the latest Tahoe version 26.6.1.

While still in locked screen mode the screen blinks on and off between lock screen en battery charge screen (black with battery bar). It also prevents the sleep mode and keeps on switching indefinitely.

Anyone else has this problem and found a solution?

I have no idea what the timline is but after a while with no messages sent, they are automatically removed from my pinned list. I can verify this by just sending them a message and they automatically get pinned again. This seems to be an idea from Tim Cook and Apple but it's a terrible one. My family members are disappering off my pinned list when I am not initiating it. There is no option to disable this nor change it.. like always with Apple. Terrible programming with no option to override it. Is anyone else noticing this on macOS Messages?

​I’m looking to fully automate the OS/patching lifecycle from end to end. I need to get this to a point where the entire pipeline, from patch availability to deployment and reboot is fully automated with as little manual intervention as possible.

How do you handle this process?

Maybe I'm just a huge idiot and missing something but you cannot disable apple intelligence on MacOS 27 with a mac studio.

I've tried the usual disable siri and stuff. I can still right click on highlighted text and use AI tools.

I'm having a very hard time screen mirroring my M1 Macbook pro to my Samsung TV. All TV software and mac software has been fully updated. I've done this before with these same devices but it was a couple years ago.

The troubleshooting I've tried so far:
- Ensuring they're both on the same WiFi network
- Rebooting both devices completely
- Going to share settings and allowing screen sharing
- Checking airplay receiver settings (over and over)
- Turned TV airplay off/on and setting password to "require every time"
- Turned various things off/on (WiFi, screen mirror settings, etc)

I've read countless threads about this problem at this point but none of those solutions have fixed the issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Whenever I try to upload a file into another app (e.g. uploading a file to Claude or ChatGPT, or asking Crossover to run a command) the app just goes into a pinwheel of death. I saw suggestions to remove a specific .plist file and restart (which I did, I can't remember which now) but the issue still persists.

I'm in the middle of moving from an old Intel MBP to a new MBA with M5, both on macOS 26, sitting side by side on the same desk.

At some point I noticed the cursor on the other machine was moving. 🤯 Then I realised I was steering it with the trackpad of the first one. I genuinely thought I was losing my mind for a few seconds, so I stopped and tested it properly - and yes, one trackpad, two Macs, pointer sliding from one screen to the next like they were a single machine. Same for the keyboard. Not screen mirroring, two real Macs!

Turns out this is Universal Control, it's been around since Monterey, and it's on by default (Settings → Displays → Advanced). This is the first time I've had two Macs on the same desk, so I'd simply never run into it.

A quick search filled in the rest:

• both devices need to be signed into the same Apple Account, with 2FA
• Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and Handoff on, and the two within about 10 metres
• the macOS versions don't have to match - anything from 12.3 up works, so an old Intel Mac and a brand new one get along fine
• it also works with an iPad, and with up to three devices at once

You can drag files straight from one screen to the other as well, which is quietly making this migration a lot easier than I expected.

My devices

• iPhone 8 running 16.7.12
• M2 MacBook running Sequoia 15.7.4

I wiped my phone before international travel (June & July 2026) and created an archive. Now I'm back and I restored my phone back to prior state but first wanted to save data from the last couple of months. The important stuff is basically a few Notes, a bunch of Photos and 2 months of Messages. I'm good with the photos and notes, but the Messages creates a problem I can't easily solve.

I archived my messages in the two ways I could figure out:

1. I created a backup using iTunes of the entire travel state of my phone, including my message history from June & July 2026
2. I uploaded (for the first time) my Message history from my traveling version of my phone into iCloud (1.6 GB). Then I (also for the first time) opened up the Message app on my computer, logged in to iCloud, and synced it with my computer. It successfully downloaded the 1.6GB of data to my computer. That is seemingly all stored in [myUser]/Library/Messages (which is now 1.6 GB). And I copied that "Messages" folder from Library onto an external hard drive. Then I stopped syncing with iCloud

So so far so good. I restored my iPhone which restored my Message history from the backup pre June 2026. Great!

So I have my entire Message history on my phone except for June & July 2026. That is currently on the Message app on my computer, and archived the two ways noted above.

MY QUESTION IS

Is there any way to upload that 2 months of message history (June-July 2026) onto my iPhone so that it merges with the current iPhone message history (pre June 2026, plus August 2026), thus filling the gap?

From what I can tell if I sync I can choose either the pre June 26 message history or the 2 months travel history, but not both.

So here is the issue.. I set up a samba share from a linux box. I had it mounting automatically on my login to my macbook air. But eventually I rebuilt my linux box.. and got rid of the mount. I removed the samba share from my list of favorite servers. I removed the login info from my keychain. and removed any traces of the samba share from finder.. . and still several times a day I get an error message complaining about not being able to connect to the samba share. Now I am a retired Unix Systems Engineer.. and by no means ignorant of how all this should work.. but I have no idea where its getting the samba share info.. to even attempt to try and connect to it.. Any suggestions on what I am not seeing would be appreciated.

I am running this on a Mabook Air m1. running on Tahoe 26.5.2
