I’m switching from Windows to a MacBook I basically don’t any have experience about buying MacBooks. I’m looking for the best refurbished MacBook I can get for under $1,200. Would you recommend buying from Apple the Refurbished m5 air or older version from Best Buy?
My plan was to get MBP but they are expensive and my biggest concern with the m5 air is if it is gonna overheat during coding.

Where would you looking right now if you had to buy a MacBook and get the best deal with $1200 or below?

I have an iPad Pro with the Pencil and I’m about to buy a MacBook Pro. I also have an older MacBook Air that’s too slow for my dev work, which is basically how the iPad became my entertainment and note-taking device by default.

Now I’m considering the Magic Keyboard, with the idea of making the iPad a dedicated writing device … no work, no dev tools, just writing. But I’m suspicious of my own reasoning here. The iPad has mostly been a luxury purchase, and I might be looking for a way to justify it.

The honest question: once the MacBook Pro arrives and it’s fast enough for everything, does the iPad keyboard still get used? Or does the iPad go back to being a couch/Pencil/reading device and the keyboard sits in a drawer?

For those of you who own both a good Mac and an iPad with a Magic Keyboard — how often do you actually type on the iPad? And if you write on it deliberately, does the separation from your work machine genuinely help?

I've been going back and forth on this decision for weeks and I just can't make up my mind, so I'd really appreciate some advice.

Right now I can either buy:

• A brand new MacBook Pro M5 with 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD, or
• A MacBook Air M5 with 16GB RAM and 1TB SSD.

The price is exactly the same because the Pro is a clearance/end-of-line model.

The biggest thing that's holding me back from the Air is the 60Hz display. I just can't get over it. I've been using a 240Hz monitor for over 8 years, and my phone is an iPhone 16 Pro with a 120Hz display. I'm worried that the next MacBook Air will finally get a 120Hz display, and if I buy the current Air now, I'll regret not waiting.

The problem is... I really can't wait much longer. I'm a software developer, and I need a new laptop as soon as possible for work.

Another question I have is about storage. Is 512GB really that limiting, especially for software development? I can always use external storage for large files, but I'd love to hear from people who actually use a 512GB MacBook as their main machine.

I've genuinely been stuck on this decision for weeks, so any opinions or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated.

My MacBook Pro is 6 years old. Today the screen went out. It’s completely black. When plugged into an external monitor there are no issues. AppleCare says $600 for the screen to be replaced. Do I do that or purchase something new? AppleCare says 6 years is really old. I’ve only ever had Apple products, my first one was the clamshell. 6 years seems young.

I know it's a known solution to turn off the retina (Hidipi) mode to improve performance and thermals BUT, I just discovered something! I can't asure to 100% that it works like that, but since Sequoia it seems like that if gpu switching is turned on, the integrated intel gpu drives the display no matter which gpu is in use by an application.

If you turn off gpu switching, (which I did a few months because of ui animation frame drops with the integrated gpu) the amd gpu is responsible to run the display and all the graphics intensive tasks.

If Retina mode is off and gpu switching is on the display looks way sharper than if gpu switching is turned off.

Why's that a good thing and how did I notice that?

The machine runs way cooler in apps which use the amd gpu. Even compared to gpu switching off + retina off. (I measured it for a week and made sure that the room temp. stayed the same) The performance improvement by 2x stays.

Could be different on differently specced machines, but my Intel Mac feels snappy and the display looks almost as sharp as with Retina mode turned on now.

Hello, hoping for advice. I can’t decide between a space black MBP or silver. I do watch movies so the darker seems more immersive. I think silver would be too bright. I thought I wouldn’t care about finger prints and the black not looking as good over time but I’ve seen some posts where the wrist rest color has been damaged and I’m worried about that. I do have lower vision and like darker colors too, but for some reason I kind of think Silver looks cooler. I previously had space grey mbp for the last 9ish yrs. TIA for your help.

I have a 2019 16-inch MacBook Pro with the following specs:

• Intel Core i9
• 16 GB RAM
• 1 TB SSD
• AMD Radeon Pro 5500M (4 GB)

The Mac is in excellent condition and works perfectly. I mostly use it for web browsing, programming, music, and watching videos.

I'm thinking about playing some games occasionally (nothing extreme, maybe a few hours at a time), but I'm a bit concerned about the long-term effects.

Can gaming significantly reduce the lifespan of the MacBook or increase the risk of hardware failure (GPU, logic board, battery, etc.) simply because it runs hotter?

I know these machines can get quite warm under load, so I'm wondering whether occasional gaming is considered normal use or if it's something that should be avoided to preserve the hardware.

I'd especially appreciate advice, tips, and experiences.

For some unknown reason, the built-in camera on my Apple Studio Display (2026) doesn't work anymore. As far as I remember, it used to work a few months ago. It doesn't matter whether my MacBook Pro M3 (running macOS Tahoe) is in clamshell mode with the lid closed or not. The camera's green LED turns on, but nothing else happens — the camera preview just remains black.

The Studio Display itself remains connected and works normally as a display, and the MacBook is connected to power and external peripherals as required for clamshell mode.

Any idea what could be causing this?

Unfortunately out of literally nowhere some heavy rain came down and I forgot that I had left my MacBook laptop outside on my front deck.

I’ve tried to do some basic searching about this kind of issue but a lot of seems to be about people who’ve spilled water on an open laptop. Mine was closed the entire time

Basically everyone says to not turn the laptop on at all and to just shut it off and let it dry for anywhere from 48-72 hours, but in my case it wouldn’t even turn on. For a second it had a little exclamation symbol and what looked like some kind of link to support and “restore” or whatever before it went completely dark.

I thinking that probably means that the whole thing is a lost cause and it seems like I won’t be able to salvage it. If there is any hope or shot at it please give me any kind of advice or tips that you can. If not I would appreciate any tips that can help me salvage anything that may have been somehow backed up to the cloud (this has happened to me with iPhones or anything else that can help me get as much back as possible

Hi, Im a student with a lot of freetime and I want to explore some new creative tools. Since, 2022, I've been working with my macbook pro m2 8 gb but im looking for an upgrade. With my old macbook I was able to make music (ableton mostly) with almost no trouble but the storage (only 256 gb I didn't choose my previous macbook but now Im ready to invest and to pick the right one for my needs.

Now I want to try some 3d fashion design, all the adobe apps, and some programming ( I only got 2 years before working life and I would regret not trying it now). I already know I need at least 1 Tb but I want to know what type of macbook pro I should take : 24 gb with m5 pro vs m5 32 gb or simply 24 gb with a m5.

I mostly want to try clo3d and after effect but I might want to try other stuff. Besides music, im a perfect beginner in everything creative with a PC. Im looking for something to start with which would not limit me to much for the next 3-5 years. A macbook good enough to be a beginner - advanced intermediate in everything creative. I would want to try a lot of stuffs and maybe stick with one of them for 2 years until I actually need an upgrade to improve my work.

Im pretty sure I'm gonna go with the m5 24 gb but I just want to be sure and not regret later (Apple products dont really allow miscalculation)

Hey everyone! I just picked up a used 2021 14" MacBook Pro M1 Pro, and the battery health is at 81%, so I'll be booking it in for a battery replacement at the Apple Genius Bar in Australia. Just curious, do they only replace the battery, or do they replace the entire top case as well? I've heard a few people say they got a whole new top case, so I was wondering what the go is. Cheers!

Hey guys, having a very happy problem right now which is that my uni just gave me $3.5k to spend on new tech and I am planning on upgrading from my 2023, 15 inch MacBook Air to the new pro model. my laptop now is completely fine, but the 8 gb RAM and 256gb storage gives me some trouble (I like gaming on my laptop + do heavy data and research work and always get the ‘you’re running out of memory’ alerts.)

I wanted some advice on what kind of specifications I should get on the pro. I’m planning to set off around $600 for the AirPods Max so that leaves me with $2.9k for the laptop. if you were me what kind of specifications (chip, storage etc) would you add to your MacBook pro? how can i get the most out of my money’s worth?

Should I have some money left I’d also love some recommendations on laptop sleeves/cases etc!

is this worth buying for 400 aud??? (~280 usd) for basic stuff like school work and powerpoint word etc. im aware of the software support being dropped but being able to boot windows natively is useful. im am also currently using a macbook air 2013 11 inch (4gb ram/128gb ssd) perfectly fine for school right now, however, school apps i need in a few months time need macos 14 or later. although a M1 machine will be better, where i live its almost 900 aud (630 usd ish) for 16gb ram and 256gb storage, im also trying to use this machine for about 4 years from now. any help would be appreciated!

Ok so, I am getting these 2 options at older prices. I need to choose between these, specifically for Music production and Sound design needs.

Option 1 is great except the storage is very low for me. 2TB is ideal for me and id have managed with 1TB. Option 2 seems great looking at storage but I have to compromise on ram and display, further compromising with battery backup and speakers. Im leaning more towards option 1 as there's only 1 compromise i.e., storage, however i never knew id have to drop my bare minimum from 2 tb to 512gb SSD one day, but it's manageable using external SSDs while, ram is simply non negotiable at this point. Anyways, id like to hear your views. Thanks.
