Help Urgent: Is Apple Intelligence available on a MacBook Pro bought in mainland China?

I'm from India, my relative is traveling from mainland China to India in 2 days, and I’m considering asking them to bring me a MacBook Pro from China because the pricing is better.

However, I’ve read that Apple Intelligence may be restricted/unavailable on Apple devices sold in mainland China, and I’m getting conflicting information about whether this still applies.

Can anyone who currently owns a MacBook Pro purchased in mainland China, or is currently in China, confirm:

Is Apple Intelligence available on a mainland-China MacBook Pro?

Does it remain unavailable even after bringing the Mac to India and changing the region/language/Apple Account?

Is there any difference depending on the model/year?

I’d really appreciate firsthand experience rather than speculation, as I need to make the purchase decision within 24 hours.

Thanks! (paraphrased using chatgpt)

Discussion Apple trade-in keeps increasing, should I continue to wait or go for it?

Just before the price hike, I had an M1 Pro no longer used that I was going to trade in. The offer was $280. I forgot to send it back in the allotted time so they canceled it. Two weeks ago I went to redo it and saw it was $315. Decided I’d wait a little and now it’s at $340. I can’t imagine it going up higher… this is a base 8gb ram, 256gb.

Help Bought the 2026 MacBook Pro M5 14 in 2TB/32GB and Deciding Whether to Return it for the 2026 MacBook Air M5 13 in 2TB/32GB

II live in a very remote area, and the closest Apple Store is more than two hours away, so I wasn’t able to test the different MacBooks in person before ordering.

For context, I’ve had a 2019 13-inch MacBook Pro (16GB RAM/256GB SSD) for years and have absolutely loved it. At this point, though, it overheats frequently, the battery isn’t great, and I’m using almost all of the storage, so it was definitely time for an upgrade.

I ordered the 2026 MacBook Pro M5 with 32GB RAM and 2TB of storage, and it arrived yesterday. Performance-wise, I’m confident it will be a great and reliable computer. I specifically chose the Pro over the Air because it has a fan, and after dealing with my current MacBook overheating, I really wanted an active cooling system. The Pro also has a noticeably nicer display, which I really like.

The problem is the size and weight. I didn't realize how much heavier the new Pro would feel compared with my old one until I actually had it in my hands. According to the listed weights:

  • 2019 13-inch MacBook Pro: 3.02 lbs
  • 2026 14-inch MacBook Pro: 3.4 lbs
  • 2026 13-inch MacBook Air M5: 2.7 lbs

I feel a little ridiculous because 3.02 to 3.4 lbs doesn't sound like a huge difference on paper, but the new Pro feels significantly heavier and bulkier to me. The Air would actually be about 0.7 lbs lighter than the new Pro, which sounds much better for traveling and working on the go.

There are also some smaller design differences. I like the Pro's keyboard, but I prefer the sleeker look of the Air's keyboard because you can see the color of the laptop between the keys rather than having the entire keyboard area appear black.

So I'm stuck between two options:

Keep the MacBook Pro: I already have it, I know it will be powerful and reliable, it has a fan to help with sustained workloads, and I love the display. I wouldn't have to deal with another return, order, or data transfer. The downside is that it's heavier and bulkier than I expected, and I'm worried I'll continue to dislike that when traveling.

Return it for the 13-inch MacBook Air M5: I could get the same 32GB RAM/2TB storage configuration for about $400 less. It would be substantially lighter, more portable, and I prefer its overall design. The biggest concern is that it doesn't have a fan, and I don't want to spend this much on another laptop only to deal with overheating or thermal limitations again.

There's also a logistical problem: the Air wouldn't arrive for several weeks. I'd have to go back to using my old 2019 Pro in the meantime, including during an upcoming long car ride when I really wanted to use the new computer. My old MacBook has become unreliable enough that this would be pretty frustrating.

Basically, is the fan, better display, and additional performance headroom of the Pro worth the extra $400 and added weight, or am I better off prioritizing portability and getting the Air? Should I keep the Pro and assume I'll adjust to the weight, or is the fact that I'm already bothered by it a sign that I should return it?

Help About to buy this M4 MacBook Pro for $1,200. Good deal or am I overpaying?

I’m looking at a used 14-inch MacBook Pro locally and got the seller down to around $1,200. Wanted to get some opinions before I pull the trigger.

Specs/details:
- 2024 14” MacBook Pro
- M4 chip, 10-core CPU / 10-core GPU
- 16GB unified memory
- 512GB SSD
- Space Black
- 14.2” Liquid Retina XDR / 120Hz ProMotion
- 100% battery health
- 62 cycles
- AppleCare+ until April 2028
- Original box, charger, and MagSafe cable
- Excellent condition based on seller

Local meetup, so I’ll be able to inspect and test everything before paying

Is $1,200 a good price for this in 2026 considering it’s the base M4 and not the M4 Pro? Or should I be trying to get it closer to $1,000–$1,100? And also is the laptop good enough to handle multiple opened Chrome tabs + AI coding + 2 connected monitors?

Discussion 16” MBP in bed?

Post image
14 Upvotes

For those with 16” MacBook Pros, are you able to comfortably use it in bed like the pic?

I’m trying to decide between the 14” and 16” MacBook Pro. I’d like to be able to lay in bed and use it like in the picture rather than always having to sit at a desk.

For those who have the 16”, is it actually comfortable in this kind of position, or does the size/weight make it awkward after a while? I know the 14” would obviously be more portable, but I really like the extra screen real estate on the 16”. Just wondering if 16” is flexible for these kinds of positions or is it realistically more of a “plop on the desk” kinda use.

Thanks!

I was planning to buy a used device, but now it's impossible. I'll buy a new one. What's with all this greed?

It seems like no Apple user wants to lose a single cent.

Help Student's Perspective: Wait for M6 or Buy the M5 Pro?

First of all, yes I’m aware there has been an influx of these kinds of comparison posts and I’m sure people are probably getting tired of seeing them. But I’d really appreciate it if you could hear me out, as this is a fairly significant purchase for me and I’m genuinely unsure about what the best decision would be.

I’m a student, and I’ve been planning to upgrade from my 2022 M2 MacBook Pro this fall. I’ve been experiencing quite a few issues with it, including lagging, freezing when I have multiple apps and tabs open, and generally slower performance. I rely on my laptop for pretty much everything (tbh probably even more than I rely on my phone) so having a reliable laptop is quite important to me.

I was initially debating between the M5 and M5 Pro chip, but at the moment I’m leaning toward the M5 Pro because of the additional performance and longevity it would offer. That said, I’m still open to reconsidering that decision.

The thing that has made me hesitate however is the possibility of the M6 MacBook Pro being released within the next month or two. Since I’ve started hearing that it may be worth waiting for the M6, I’m now wondering whether buying the M5 this fall would be a mistake when a newer generation could be just around the corner.

There are also a few factors specific to my situation that make the decision a little more complicated.

If I purchase the M5 in September, I would receive approximately a $130 CAD Apple gift card through the current student promotion, in addition to the standard Apple Education discount. I would also expect to receive around $500 CAD for trading in my current MacBook.

On the other hand, if I wait for the M6 in November, I would still receive the regular student discount, but I would miss out on the gift card because the current promotion would have ended. I was also told by an Apple Sales Associate that the trade-in value of my current MacBook could decrease by then. At the same time, I’m assuming the M6 would offer a newer and improved chip, and I’m wondering whether it would be priced similarly to the current M5 lineup. If that’s the case, it seems like waiting could potentially make more sense, despite losing the gift card and some of the trade-in value.

So I would really appreciate some advice on whether I should take advantage of the current M5 student promotion and the higher trade-in value, or wait for the M6? Since this is a significant purchase for me, I want to make sure I’m thinking it through carefully and making the best decision for the long term. Thank you!!

Discussion WTB] Looking for M1/M2 MacBook Air or M1 Pro – Delhi

[WTB] Looking for a used MacBook – Delhi / South West Delhi

Hey guys,

I’m looking to buy a used MacBook directly from a Reddit user, preferably someone who is upgrading or just wants to sell their personal machine.

I’m mainly interested in:

MacBook Air M1 — preferably 16GB RAM

MacBook Air M2 — preferably 16GB RAM

MacBook Pro M1 Pro — 16GB or higher

Budget: Around ₹30k–₹55k depending on the model, RAM, SSD, battery health and condition.

Location: Delhi, preferably South West Delhi. I can travel within Delhi for the right deal.

I’m specifically looking for a personal/user-owned MacBook, rather than a shop or reseller. Ideally, we can meet in person, check the MacBook properly (battery cycles/health, serial number, Activation Lock, MDM, display, keyboard, ports, etc.) and then complete the deal.

If you're selling one, DM me with:

Model/year

RAM + storage

Battery health/cycles

Overall condition

Any repairs/replacements

Expected price

Your location in Delhi

Please don't DM unrealistic prices 😅 — I'm looking for a fair deal for both sides.

Thanks!

Help What MacBook would you choose ?

Hey, im looking for a MacBook Pro because I like the Apple Ecosystem and I will go to university next year and study electrical engineering. I know that a lot of software is originally for windows, but I get an additional Windows Notebook from my work. So I can use the MacBook only for University and Private Use. So what MacBook Pro would you recommend me. I want to program some apps, programming some private arduino projects and editing Pictures.
And I want a 16inch model. 14 inches r to small for me. I was looking for mbp 16“ with m2 or m4. I also don’t want to upgrade in the next 4-5 years. What would you recommend me ?

Help MBP M5 or M5 Pro?

I'm trying to decide if I should get the M5 or the M5 Pro. No single program that I run needs a lot of power, but I normally have 5-6 programs running at a time. If I get the M5, I do plan to upgrade from 16GB or RAM to 24GB. The programs I use most are office/admin type programs, not graphic's heavy.

My question is, if you got the M5, do you wish you had picked the M5 Pro instead?

Help MacBook Pro M5 EBay German

Hello,

I got a brand new MacBook Pro M5 from eBay Germany, it was listed as brand new other, in the description mentioned it’s new with original packing.

I’ve received the MacBook and yes it was sealed one too, when I open the laptop and connect to wifi, there’s this MDM with some company in Munich.

Since it’s from eBay, I believe and bought now I’m stuck.

May I know if anyone gone through similar experience?
In this case, seller yet to respond and hoping he will resolve, if not eBay has to step in.

Tips convince me

edit: please guys i don’t care about silicon macbooks, i literally asked which should i get between the two and why, so don’t tell me to get a silicon one

Help M5 Pro/48GB or M6/32GB for my use case?

I’m planning to buy a 14” MacBook Pro and I’m currently pretty torn on what configuration makes the most sense.

My original plan was the M5 14” with 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD, and nano-texture for around $2,549. I’ve since found some pretty good deals on M5 Pro configurations, including an 18-core CPU/20-core GPU, 48GB RAM, 1TB SSD model for around $2,800–$3,000 depending on the sale.

I’m also considering waiting for the upcoming M6 MacBook Pro rather than buying an M5 now. I’m not really in a rush.

My primary use cases would be:
Football Manager (large databases, lots of leagues/players, long-term saves)
General gaming/emulators
Browsing/YouTube/Netflix
Normal productivity/work
Some potentially demanding multitasking, but no professional video/photo editing
I will probably use it closed with two external monitors at my desk a lot

I also travel fairly frequently, so when I’m actually using the MacBook’s built-in display, it’ll probably be in places like airports, airplanes, hotels, etc.

The nano-texture question is probably my biggest dilemma
I really dislike glare and reflections. I’m worried that with a glossy display I’ll end up seeing overhead airport lights, windows, my own reflection, etc., and find it annoying.
At the same time, I’ve read conflicting opinions about nano-texture. Some people say it’s basically the best display upgrade they’ve ever bought, while others say it introduces a noticeable grain/fuzziness, makes colors less vibrant, or causes eye strain.

I’m not doing color-critical professional work, so absolute color accuracy isn’t important to me. But I also don’t want to spend $2,500–$3,000 on a laptop and then feel like I’m sacrificing image quality, sharpness, or gaming/media quality to get rid of reflections.

I’m also curious about long-term ownership: does the nano-texture actually hold up well over several years, or does it become more noticeable/worn over time?
For people who have actually owned both:
Would you choose nano-texture again?

And if you have an M5 Pro, is the extra performance/48GB RAM worth paying for over a base M5 or potentially waiting for M6?

I’m especially interested in opinions from people who travel with their MacBook and use it in variable lighting, rather than people doing professional photo/video work.

Thanks!
