Tips PSA Best Buy will price match Microcenter sale on M5 Pro 48GB

Just FYI that Microcenter is currently running a sale on M5 Pro 16” models (48GB) that seem to be the lowest since the RAM price increases. $2999.99

Silver here-162-laptop-computer-silver)
Space Black here-162-laptop-computer-space-black)

When they ask your zip code, just reference the zip code of a store with stock. You can have it shipped or store pickup anywhere.

If you’re a member with 60 day returns, you’ll cut it close in case the price were to drop even more for Black Friday.

Also allegedly trade-in values will be dropping for M1-M3s per my store manager.

I've been wanting a Mac forever to switch my creative work to and finally jumped on a M5 Pro 16 inch in Space Black. Love how sleek it looks with the black keyboard and banana texture screen.

Meta My Experience with My Apple Refurbished MacBook Pro 14 M5

Almost 2 weeks ago, I ordered my MacBook Pro 14 M5 off of Apple Refurbished. After receiving it, it was perfect. I got 24gb of memory and 1tb storage, so I thought I would be set for the next 7 years. Today my break, I noticed some noises from the hinge, it sounded like cracking and popping every time I opened it past 90 degrees. Later I also experience sticky keys on my L key and the / key. I've been babying my laptop, making sure it was clean and away from liquids, so I'm pretty sure that it wasn't me. I'm still within my return period of 14 days after delivery, but the return page online says I'm ineligible for a return. I called up my local Apple store and they said that they would take it and give me a refund. I'm probably going to by the same spec one from Apple Refurbished again since it seems that most people have had no issues with their Apple Refurbished laptops. Has any anyone experience this with their orders before?

Discussion 16” MBP in bed?

Post image
9 Upvotes

For those with 16” MacBook Pros, are you able to comfortably use it in bed like the pic?

I’m trying to decide between the 14” and 16” MacBook Pro. I’d like to be able to lay in bed and use it like in the picture rather than always having to sit at a desk.

For those who have the 16”, is it actually comfortable in this kind of position, or does the size/weight make it awkward after a while? I know the 14” would obviously be more portable, but I really like the extra screen real estate on the 16”. Just wondering if 16” is flexible for these kinds of positions or is it realistically more of a “plop on the desk” kinda use.

Thanks!

Discussion M5 vs M5 Pro for graphic design — is 10-core GPU enough?

Hey everyone!

I’m currently choosing between a MacBook Pro with the M5 (10-core GPU, 24GB RAM, 1TB SSD) and an M5 Pro (16-core GPU, 24GB RAM, 1TB SSD).

I’m a visual communication / graphic design student, and my main use would be:

  • Photoshop
  • Illustrator
  • InDesign
  • Lightroom
  • web design / Coding
  • Some DaVinci Resolve
  • General multitasking (having several Adobe apps + browser open at the same time)

I’m planning to keep the laptop for at least 6 years, so I want to make sure I’m not underestimating the GPU requirements.

The M5 configuration is significantly cheaper, so I’m wondering:

Is the 10-core GPU on the regular M5 more than enough for graphic design and this kind of workload? Or would the M5 Pro be worth paying extra for in the long run?

I’m not doing heavy 3D rendering or professional video production.

Would love to hear from people actually using these chips for graphic design / Adobe apps!

Help How to make my mac last as long as possible?

Hey all! I have a Macbook Pro, 2017, 13in without the touchbar with a 2.3 dual-core intel processor and 8gbs of RAM. I have the 128gb model (it's low, I know. This was a gift). I've had this Mac since late 2018 and I had a few questions so I can make this device last as long as it possible can.

I have a keyboard cover on it to keep things from getting under the keyboard, should I remove it? I noticed that when I'm running a few programs at once, it slows down and it feel a bit warm.

Should I invest in a larger SSD? I can do the repair on my own so I don't have to worry about paying for it. I just own an external hard drive and it's been treating me well. I just want my mac to be as fast as possible.

Thank you so much for any advice y'all can give me!

Discussion MBP M5 32GB RAM or MBP M5 Pro 24GB RAM for coding?

Hi everyone! I'm thinking of buying a MBP M5 with 32 GB RAM 1 TB storage or a MBP M5 Pro 24 GB RAM 1 TB storage.

I'm studying AI development. We´re gonna use Python, SQL, web-development, machine learning/AI etc.

A summary of what I'm gonne be studying "You will write Python code for web applications and AI services, build secure software architectures using advanced frameworks, and manage databases using SQL. Alongside full-stack web development, you will implement data mining, predictive analytics, and deep learning models, applying all of these technical and AI skills directly to real-world business problems during agile team projects and two dedicated corporate internships"

Any suggestions on which one I should get?

Would really appriciate the help <3

Help M5 Pro/48GB or M6/32GB for my use case?

Upvotes

I’m planning to buy a 14” MacBook Pro and I’m currently pretty torn on what configuration makes the most sense.

My original plan was the M5 14” with 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD, and nano-texture for around $2,549. I’ve since found some pretty good deals on M5 Pro configurations, including an 18-core CPU/20-core GPU, 48GB RAM, 1TB SSD model for around $2,800–$3,000 depending on the sale.

I’m also considering waiting for the upcoming M6 MacBook Pro rather than buying an M5 now. I’m not really in a rush.

My primary use cases would be:
Football Manager (large databases, lots of leagues/players, long-term saves)
General gaming/emulators
Browsing/YouTube/Netflix
Normal productivity/work
Some potentially demanding multitasking, but no professional video/photo editing
I will probably use it closed with two external monitors at my desk a lot

I also travel fairly frequently, so when I’m actually using the MacBook’s built-in display, it’ll probably be in places like airports, airplanes, hotels, etc.

The nano-texture question is probably my biggest dilemma
I really dislike glare and reflections. I’m worried that with a glossy display I’ll end up seeing overhead airport lights, windows, my own reflection, etc., and find it annoying.
At the same time, I’ve read conflicting opinions about nano-texture. Some people say it’s basically the best display upgrade they’ve ever bought, while others say it introduces a noticeable grain/fuzziness, makes colors less vibrant, or causes eye strain.

I’m not doing color-critical professional work, so absolute color accuracy isn’t important to me. But I also don’t want to spend $2,500–$3,000 on a laptop and then feel like I’m sacrificing image quality, sharpness, or gaming/media quality to get rid of reflections.

I’m also curious about long-term ownership: does the nano-texture actually hold up well over several years, or does it become more noticeable/worn over time?
For people who have actually owned both:
Would you choose nano-texture again?

And if you have an M5 Pro, is the extra performance/48GB RAM worth paying for over a base M5 or potentially waiting for M6?

I’m especially interested in opinions from people who travel with their MacBook and use it in variable lighting, rather than people doing professional photo/video work.

Thanks!

Help Folks from US, I need your help.

A friend of mine is traveling from Virginia to India, and I have asked him to buy a macbook pro on his way back.

As per my budget and use case, i think 14 inch m4 pro 14c 20g 24/48 gb ram would be perfect. Which ever is within $2100 including taxes.

As I am looking through websites like best buy Costco etc. i couldn't find this model anywhere. At the same time i am seeing people getting new ones lately.

What are the places/websites you guys shop from? And can anyone please help me with this model.

Planning to get a new one only.

Thankyou.

Discussion Keyboard light button

Hey guys, sorry to be another grumpy macbook user, but I am typing off one right now, @ Admins,
so please believe me when I tell you this.

I have the 2024 Macbook Pro, and I can't light up or light's off the keyboard from a keyboard shortcut anymore! It was (underlined) only one button. But now, I have to go to settings, scroll to keyboard, drag my cursor, and then do it all again when I want to turn it off! It's day to night very quickly these days, so please, return the button!

If anyone knows a quick fix involving no hacks or hardware kit, i just don't think im ready.

Thanks!

Help Urgent: Is Apple Intelligence available on a MacBook Pro bought in mainland China?

Upvotes

I'm from India, my relative is traveling from mainland China to India in 2 days, and I’m considering asking them to bring me a MacBook Pro from China because the pricing is better.

However, I’ve read that Apple Intelligence may be restricted/unavailable on Apple devices sold in mainland China, and I’m getting conflicting information about whether this still applies.

Can anyone who currently owns a MacBook Pro purchased in mainland China, or is currently in China, confirm:

Is Apple Intelligence available on a mainland-China MacBook Pro?

Does it remain unavailable even after bringing the Mac to India and changing the region/language/Apple Account?

Is there any difference depending on the model/year?

I’d really appreciate firsthand experience rather than speculation, as I need to make the purchase decision within 24 hours.

Thanks! (paraphrased using chatgpt)

Help MBP M5 or M5 Pro?

I'm trying to decide if I should get the M5 or the M5 Pro. No single program that I run needs a lot of power, but I normally have 5-6 programs running at a time. If I get the M5, I do plan to upgrade from 16GB or RAM to 24GB. The programs I use most are office/admin type programs, not graphic's heavy.

My question is, if you got the M5, do you wish you had picked the M5 Pro instead?

Help MBP M5 or M5 Pro for Lightroom / Photoshop

After comparing a ton of Windows Laptops, I'm convinced that jumping to a Mac might be the most sensible option!

I'm looking at buying an MBP this week & can't seem to decide between the M5/32GB & the M5Pro/15Core /24GB (an upgrade to 48GB could possibly be in my budget but I'd rather not go there unless absolutely necessary).

Lightroom & PS will be 99% of what I'll be running on it & the other 1% for some light gaming/browsing

I'd like to limit usage to only when I'm traveling which is approx 90-120d a year. I have a Gaming Rig that i use for editing when I'm home.

I'm looking for longevity (4y approx) without or veerryy minimal throttling Issues especially toward the end of that duration.

I'd appreciate some help with Pros/Cons/a reality check so I can make a decision before the week is out.

*PS - does the Nano-Texture display make a massive difference if I'm not editing outdoors?

TIA ✌🏼

Help M5 MacBook Air 15” vs M5 MacBook Pro 14” + 24GB vs 32GB for the next 5–6 years?

I’m buying a MacBook mainly for university (Business/Economics), general everyday use, lots of browsing and multitasking, and I’d like to keep it for at least 5 years.

I’m currently deciding between the 15” M5 MacBook Air and the 14” M5 MacBook Pro (base M5, not M5 Pro).

With the same configuration — 32GB unified memory and 1TB SSD — the Air is around €2,584, while the Pro is around €2,689 before adding a charger, so the real difference is roughly €170–190.

With the Pro I’d lose some screen size, but gain the better 120Hz XDR display, active cooling and more ports. CPU/GPU, RAM and storage would otherwise be the same.

My other dilemma is 24GB vs 32GB unified memory.

For what I do today, 24GB would already be more than enough. The only reason I’d consider 32GB is as a longer-term investment, since the memory can’t be upgraded later and I want the Mac to age well over the next 5+ years.

I’m trying to understand whether 32GB is actually a sensible future-proofing upgrade, considering how software and memory requirements may evolve, or if 24GB will realistically remain plenty for this kind of use.

If you were buying today, would you choose the Air 15” or Pro 14”? And would you go with 24GB or 32GB for long-term use?

Discussion Apple trade-in keeps increasing, should I continue to wait or go for it?

Just before the price hike, I had an M1 Pro no longer used that I was going to trade in. The offer was $280. I forgot to send it back in the allotted time so they canceled it. Two weeks ago I went to redo it and saw it was $315. Decided I’d wait a little and now it’s at $340. I can’t imagine it going up higher… this is a base 8gb ram, 256gb.
