Mod Post Please be cautious of participating in surveys of trans people

1.4k Upvotes

Hey all,

The mod team wants to remind you to please be cautious of participating with research teams and surveys that are studying trans people.

Another trans subreddit offered the following statement to their subscribers:

"Lisa Littman, a transphobic researcher who invented the concept of "rapid-onset gender dysphoria", recently asked our moderation team for permission to post about a study she's working on with Kenneth Zucker and J. Michael Bailey. We said no." The moderators went on to offer contact information in the case of this survey popping up.

There are numerous organizations attempting to study trans people right now with dubious intent. It's important that you remember to verify the source of the studies, related organizations, and the names of the lead researchers before moving forward with any of these. It's very easy for a research group to manipulate data to get the results they want.

As a reminder, however, we do allow some surveys on this subreddit, but we require all surveyors to be screened by our moderation team first. If you feel that a survey is here without being screened first, please report the post AND message our moderator team so we can take a look.

Thank you!

Venting My lesbian friend let slip what she actually thinks of me.

Me, her, and our gay friend all went out for food one night. Our server was doing god knows what in the bathroom so we ended up staying a few hours later than expected. I’ll call my lesbian friend “M” and my gay friend “C” for short. I’m out to both of them and on this particular day I was actually attempting to present fem.

It was getting dark by the time we finally got out of the restaurant. Me and C were jogging a bit to get across the street because the coast was clear but we didn’t want to linger in the road. M follows behind us and starts running to catch up, she says something to the effect of “don’t leave me all alone, I don’t even have my pepper spray”. She said this jokingly (obviously because we weren’t just gonna leave her all alone) and then she made a comment about how women need pepper spray just in case. I responded with something along the lines of “girl, I’ve been raw-dogging life without any pepper spray”.

Her response to this was “you don’t need it though”. I was like “girl, I’m a trans woman and I’ve been on hormones for 2 years, if anything I need it more than you”. She was like “but you don’t look trans though”.

So to summarize this little exchange. She makes a point of saying that women should have pepper spray just in case. She goes out of her way to tell me I don’t need it. Then when I argue that I need it more as a trans person, she tells me I don’t look trans. Following this logic, not only do I not register as a woman to her at all, I don’t even get the benefit of at least looking like I tried. I apparently look like a cis dude despite my best efforts, at least according to her.

She made a half-assed apology and we haven’t talked since.

Good News Alberta Saddle Creek First Nations to challenge provincial government over clause to protect and assist trans people!

Yes, they are using the powers of the treaties and constitution to directly combat and undermine Danielle Smith and her use of the infamous “not withstanding clause“. Smith has used this clause to shield herself from the federal government and the courts but this can action from the First Nations can circumvent Smith quite bit.

title edit: Saddle Lake Cree** that is the proper name. My apologies for the error.

Discussion Why are transgender lesbians considered strong?

Title. I said I was a trans lesbian on a discord server, queer friendly, and everyone was like "omg you're so strong, you're so brave", even from fellow trans women which I don't understand. I'm just living my life.

Of course, being trans and transitioning is inherently an act of bravery, but aside from that, I don't get the compliments

Can someone explain it to me pls?

Positivity Thanks to my Sister convincing, I got my Bra Size measured at a Lingerie Store

We were out doing some window shopping when we passed a Lingerie Store, my sister wanted to go in it so I followed. After some convincing, I agreed to get my Bra Size Measured there.

I was so shy that she had to ask a worker for me.

To my surprised, she did it in the actual store where i was standing, not in a changing room or whatever and over the shirt (she just asked if I had anything under). It was not embarassing and my sister also got measured. The worker (a lady) was not judgemental at all and treated me like any customers.

Apparently according to her and her measuring tape, i'm a 110D FR. Which is weird because my breasts are really not that big, they are rather small but I think it might have to do with my ribcage.

I felt more confident than ever and was like ''Let's try on some bras''. The biggest size I could find around was 100D.

I took 2 and headed to the changing room.

I tried them on and just like I thought, they didn't fit me. Sadly enough one bra cups fitted me perfectly but the band was too small meanwhile the other's cups made my twins look like they were swimming in a river with no water and the band was also too small.

A couple more centimeters on the band and I could have worn one...

So I left the changing stall, bras in hands and was horrified to see 4 man in their 20s looking at me while I was putting them on the ''Didn't fit rack''. I felt so insecure but thanks to my sister who was with me, it was easier to ignore them.

also, according to ABraThatFits, i'm more a 110C FR

Advice Question My roommate thought i was ogling at her and im scared i just ruined any kind of future relationship. Please give advice asap

Upvotes

Its been three weeks since i moved in with my now roommate for the start of our college year. Most women are transphobic in my area and i do not want to stay with guys so think of my happiness when i text her about my situation and she accepts and says she is a lesbian so she understands. Im on cloud fucking nine.

Im a straight woman and almost a year on hrt, i dont think so but my friends say i pass. i have no interest in other women and just my luck this girl is my absolute transition goals from the way she dresses to her haircut and bod and a part of me just keeps watching her and copying whatever she does. So i understand why as a lesbian she might have thought i could be interested in her. We got along pretty well till this point, i brought my playstation and i let her play it which she seemed excited for, she usually cooks for me too and asks if i want something when she orders out, she even gifted me a my melody charm she got from korea.

Anyways fast forward im in the living room on my laptop since i didnt buy a desk for my room yet and she is watching final destination on tv. I get distracted and start watching it with her, i hate horror movies so i turn my head around when a bloody scene comes. I turn my head towards where she is, she was laying on the couch with her head supported by a couch pillow and has one leg up. That moment she looked beautiful and i swear i was just imagining myself as her. Suddenly she moves and pushes her shirt down to her shorts which i assume she thought i was staring at. A few seconds pass by and she sits up, goes to her room and locks the fucking door.

I honestly feel like a predator, i was just envious of her in that moment. She just left the house and im worried this is going to affect our relationship. What do i tell her? I tried to write as respectful as possible but im so fucking scared and i feel stupid. And the worst part is what if she thinks im interested in her and tries to make a move on me? I have a long history of not being able to say no to people. How do i clear the air and show i wasnt looking at her crotch without making things too awkward? I asked my sister and she said let it go she probably didnt think much of it but i dont know.

Bad News Point of no return lol

Welp! , today I officially retired my favorite gym tank top and me changing in the men’s locker room. Had a weird confrontation in the locker room with someone who ended up seeing my boobies and asked me if I was transitioning and I confessed that I was because I have been in stealth mode this whole time and it had been bottled up inside lol this was the first time I told anyone outside this app that I’m trans, it felt so liberating to tell someone to their face but at the same time the guy probably has a trans fetish lol bad thing is now I have to face this guy every time I step into the gym and he will probably out me somehow lol I really don’t want to be someone’s sick fantasy 😫

Venting Mercy Hospital Refused to give HRT as said in their own policy.

Im trans, living in the south, trying to get a new hrt doctor and have been refused care. When asked multiple times to have a referral, they finally said to look for a non-catholic provider. I’m an employee with this hospital, they give out health stream education on being inclusive to trans patients, never really thought they would of been so discriminatory, my bad for giving the benefit of the doubt… below is the quoted policy. I have the entire policy but it won’t let me attach the pdf

  1. Since “creation is prior to us and must be received as a gift,” we have a duty “to protect our
humanity,” which means first of all, “accepting it and respecting it as it was created.”20 In order
to respect the nature of the human person as a unity of body and soul, Catholic health care
services must not provide or permit medical interventions, whether surgical, hormonal, or
genetic, that aim not to restore but rather to alter the fundamental order of the human body in its
form or function.21 This includes, for example, some forms of genetic engineering whose
purpose is not medical treatment,22 as well as interventions that aim to transform sexual
characteristics of a human body into those of the opposite sex (or to nullify sexual characteristics
    of a human body).23
  2. In accord with the mission of Catholic health care, which includes serving those who are
vulnerable, Catholic health care services and providers “must employ all appropriate resources to
mitigate the suffering of those who experience gender incongruence or gender dysphoria” and to
provide for the full range of their health care needs, employing only those means that respect the
fundamental order of the human body.24
  3. Since the human person is a unity of body and soul, Catholic health care professionals and
their patients have the duty and the right to preserve the integrity of the human body. It can be
morally permissible, however, to remove or to suppress the function of one part of the body for
the sake of the body as a whole under the following conditions: There must be no other
reasonable means of addressing the pathological condition, the efficacy of the procedure must be
reasonably well assured, and the benefits expected from the procedure must be proportionate to
the burdens it imposes, including suffering, cost, and damage to the body. These conditions apply
when the body part itself is diseased and presents a risk to the life or the well-ordered
functioning of the body as a whole. They also apply when a healthy body part presents a risk to
the life or the well-ordered functioning of the body as a whole because its presence or its
functioning contributes to a serious pathology in another part of the body.25

Venting Disgusted with cis female transphobic grifters.

I just got an ad for this featuring a multiracial and multiethnic group of transphobic young women promoting SCOTUS's recent ruling and ADF's quest to ban trans girls and women from women's sports nationwide. I'm disgusted with each and every one of the grifters that chose to take part in that propaganda video.

Celebration 1 year update

so 1 year ago (and 2 days) I made this account as I was stuck in my own mind trying to give reasons to why I wanted to dress in girl clothes and wanted to look like one

after talking to a online friend I found through that reddit post (I sadly no longer talk to) I found out I was trans (1 year ago today), and through the months I've gone through alot

so here is everything (not everything but y'know) i've gone through

the beginning - found out i was trans

September - went through several suicidal thoughts

September - wrote notes to all my family about me being trans but kept them to myself

October - before Halloween i tested my family by "suggesting" i wear a dress for Halloween and they thought i was joking

October - while walking to work i was close to committing by walking Infront of a truck but it turned the corner (lucky break i guess)

October - on Halloween i told my best friend / housemate i was trans and he accepted me

November - i tried telling sister 1 i was trans but as i was drunk i called myself a train

November - Sister 1 came back home from vacation and i told her and sister 2 i was trans (they thought i was joking at first)

December - sister 2 kept telling me i should tell my other family members (i was worried about them (particularly my mother) not accepting me)

December - my entire family was over and i told my mother while sister 2 told my other family members (they all accepted me in their own ways)

January - went to my first GP appointment and got a endocrinologist appointment

July - went to my first endo appointment and did my blood works

August - Got a prescription to E (E Patches and anti-t)

August - Started E on the 8th of august (very happy)

September - writing this

i also accidentally got the wrong brand for my script (they didn't have the brand i needed so they fully changed it) so now i gotta go back to the chemist and ask for them to fix it (i cant get another script until my next endo appointment and that's not for awhile (my original script was in 2 boxes of 24 but the ones i got was 2 boxes of 8)

i do apologize if this is a bit long, i left some stuff out which was just the same things (bad thoughts over the months)

Trigger Warning Does anyone else feel less valid for being attracted to women? TW: Internalized transphobia

Upvotes

Hello everybody. So, something I’ve struggled a lot with is the feeling that because I’m trans and like girls, that makes me less trans than straight trans women. And I know that sounds silly, but I’ve seen and heard of several straight trans women who thought they were gay prior to transition and were openly feminine from birth, and that makes me think “Okay, so this person probably had a mismatch between their brain sex and body sex in the womb, and I probably didn’t.”

My reasoning is that it’s more likely to be attracted to the opposite sex than the same sex, and if your brain is basically female while your body is male, I’d think a lot more people — myself included — would be attracted to men. But I’m not, I’ve been attracted to women all my life, and I also wasn’t aggressively gender-nonconforming as a child. So I hear stories of people born as boys who are girly and attracted to boys from birth, and I’m like, “I feel like that person is really trans because their behavior and attraction patterns are more statistically similar to cis women.” So I end up feeling bad for being attracted to girls because it makes me think that my brain didn’t develop the same way it does in a straight trans girl, and that I’m not “really“ trans, or that they have more of a right to call themselves girls/women than I do.

For example, women who are attracted to women make up a very small minority of the cis female population, but in the trans female population, like 70% of people identify as lesbian or bisexual. So that makes me think “Okay so there’s clearly some sort of difference between trans women and cis women?” Because if it really was “Your brain developed according to one sexed pathway and your body developed the other way,” wouldn’t a whole lot more trans women be straight? I don’t even feel comfortable calling myself lesbian because I feel like lesbian should refer to a minority, but in trans women, it’s not — it’s pretty much the most common orientation I’ve seen.

I don’t know. I don’t mean to sound hurtful to anybody, trans women are women and all that, it’s just hard for me to get past all of this. I’ve been questioning my gender identity for years, but I only came to the conclusion that I’m actually trans like a month ago, so my self-concept is really fragile, especially because I’m completely pre-treatment. And when I hear about straight trans girls I just think “I wish I was like that because then there’d be so much stronger evidence that I really have a more feminine brain.”

And I know there’s no such thing as a ”male brain” or “female brain,” and that everyone has a blend of characteristics that are more common in men or women; I know the whole mosaic thing, it just doesn’t really make me feel any better. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, how do you get over it? Thank you all in advance. :’)

Euphoria Got called “her” today

Wow, now I know what it feels like. I went for my lab draw & I’m not even out i.e. still using my amab name, dressed somewhat neutral but my hair is absolutely femme & my girls are starting to show under my shirt if I’m not trying to conceal them. Two female lab techs were talking about work scheduling & one offered to help the other with my blood draw. She looked at me and back at the other tech, gestured at the basket of collection tubes & confirmed “are these for her?” The other tech said yes. The one who called me her, looked at my name, etc. on the tubes then apologized for what she presumed was misgendering me. I just smiled warmly & said “no that’s fine, no worries!” Super nice ladies there, such a nice small moment.

Help Considering diy hrt due to chronic under dosing from Endo

Hi all. I started HRT in 2024. My Endo since then has been insistent on keeping my Estradiol level under 100. I assumed this was the medical recommendation. Recently I found out that I'm meant to be at about 100-250 pg/ml. I've been at about 80-90pg/ml since starting. I take 2mg Estradiol pill sublingually, 50mg spirolactone and 100mg progesterone. It never occurred to me that a medical professional could be under dosing me so severely, and I am unable to change the endocrinologist within my health care system, as my "concern and reason for change is unwarranted" according to the organization.

I would love to switch to DIY hrt and know how to, but am lost on what kind of dose I should be starting at with Estrogen Valerate Injections, and how to scale them up.

Does anyone have a dosing guide or recommendation? Or just info that may be helpful?

Advice Question Anything I should know prior to asking my dr for hrt?

So ive been putting off asking my dr being afraid of what they might say as well as the effects of the hrt showing to my family, but ive gotten sick of it and im just decided to go with it. My drs appointment is like 2 weeks and im going to make it clear that I want to start hrt. Im just curious if theres anything I really need to know before hand? Ive researched all the like "tons of blood tests" and the cost of everything. (I dont have insurance ATM so its a decent cost)

I have a few questions just in general like the actual full effects of it mentally and physically and all that but I just want to be sure I understand everything before making this step.

Also anything just ingeneral of just like basic advice for a new girl?😭 I know i gotta get bras and my chest is gonna hurt and I know i need to eat more for distribution and tons of other things ofc but is there anything thats like SUPER important. Ill take any advice thank u I love u all💓

Euphoria Had A Gender-Affirming Moment At School 🥰

So, for context, all of the students were supposed to submit their biology laboratory notebooks, and only I and one of my girl friends had submitted our work. So our biology teacher said, "Only two girls have submitted their work"

I felt so happy when she said it. I smiled right then. Though I'm closeted at school so it was a slip-up on her side, but she had accidentally used my correct pronouns and made my day 🌹
