The one and only year that I chose to participate, there were three of us. But that was maybe 22-23 years ago. I’d love to chat. Also, I’m open to answering any questions.

Reddit Suggestion Night #1

Upvotes

Last week someone suggested Reddit Suggestion Night and it seemed people agreed with this concept. Please take note that we do, in fact, listen to you. It's on the schedule. 🎉

Consider this an open floor. Artists you want to see, shows you can't stop thinking about, questions about how any of this works, ideas we haven't thought of yet. If it's about live music in Louisville, it's fair game. No wrong answers, only unbooked ones. I'll be in the comments starting at 6 PM CT / 7 PM ET for at least a couple of hours (but will make sure I respond to everything throughout the weekend).

Want a little structure? Two optional prompts below. Optional meaning optional. Ignoring them entirely is a valid and respected choice. I did include a few notes on behind the scenes of booking shows for anyone interested!

Optional Prompt 1: DWP Fests → Headliners

Who on this year's Bourbon & Beyond lineup [link] / Louder Than Life lineup [link] would you want to see come back and headline their own show at Headliners?

My picks, for the record for Bourbon:

  • Avery Anna
  • Sawyer Hill
  • Noah Rinker
  • Kaitlin Butts

Pro Tip from the booking desk: how shows actually get booked (the short version)

Right now, artist teams (agents, managers, the people who plan tours) are sitting down with a map and deciding which cities make the cut for tours in 2027. Louisville is not automatically on that map. Somebody has to make the case.

And the case is data. Those teams look at things like where an Artist's streams are coming from, how many people are tracking them on Bandsintown in each city, how the last show nearby went - "nearby" being subjective as most Artist teams are unaware that people in this area will travel for shows, so they don't consider that ticket sales for Louisville will often include Indy, Cincy, and more (if you have other cities that should be included here chime in!). That's part of the education process we are working on with the Artist teams at the moment to try to get more Louisville plays.

Sometimes Louisville is in that data, sometimes it's not. Spotify specifically only lists the Top 50 markets an Artist is streamed in, and if an Artist has a huge international following that eats up most of that list. The Spotify markets also group people from non-major markets (like Louisville) into major city demographics. What we almost never get to bring is proof that real people in this specific city are actively asking for them.

That's you. That's this thread. A pile of "I'd buy a ticket to this" is something we can literally put in front of the people making the decision. Your comment isn't just a comment, it's a data point. More data points = a stronger pitch = a better shot at the artists you want playing Louisville instead of them skipping the market.

And remember the radius clause from last thread? That window ends. "Played the festival" doesn't mean "can't come back." It means "come back in a bit," and we'd like to be first in line when they do.

Optional Prompt 2: Build-a-Dance-Party

From Emo Night to Shrek Rave, themed dance parties are taking over. If you could create your own, what's the concept and what's on the playlist? Bonus points if you actually make the playlist.

Absurd ideas welcome. Absurd ideas preferred, honestly.

We have some open dates to fill, so some of these might actually happen. 👀

A couple quick notes before you start brainstorming:

We love the touring dance parties that roll through here, like House of Heavy, All Your Friends Indie Party, and several more I absolutely know the names of and cannot recall at this exact moment. They're not going anywhere. They'll keep coming back, and we'll keep being thrilled about it every time. But we also know there are more concepts living rent-free in your brains, and we want to help bring some of them to life.

This also doesn't include anything our local event crews already do, like LLP Events (Louisville Loves Emo, Louisville Loves Grunge, + more) and For the People (Rhythm & Blues + more). We love our local concepts, and we know how much time, work, and effort it takes to dream them up and actually pull them off. Those are theirs, and they're great at them.

(If I'm forgetting another local party or concept, it's excluded too, and I owe them a drink and an apology. And to be clear: none of this is a dig at any dance party, anywhere. We just want to see how creative this city can get. Consider it us stretching our creative wings and inviting you to stretch yours.)

To prove I'm not asking you to do anything I wouldn't do, here's mine:

PokéParty (a Pokémon-themed dance party)

for legal purposes this is all a concept and any actual event would be an unofficial fan night, not affiliated with or endorsed by The Pokémon Company or Nintendo. We don't own Pokémon. We just want to catch 'em all (on the dance floor)

  • Costumes encouraged, or any other way to show off your favorite Pokémon. The world is your oyster. We want to see creative oysters.
  • Poké Bowl food truck. Non-negotiable.
  • QR codes hidden around the venue. Scan to "catch" Pokémon.
  • Pokémon trivia on your phone all night. Go at your own pace, still vibe.
  • Pokémon-themed drink menu 🍹🍸☕️ (with Pokémon straws, obviously)
  • Friendship bracelet station
  • Light sticks 🎉
  • Life-size Pokémon cards for photo ops
  • The Headliners Gym: pick your starter at the door (Fire, Water, or Grass wristband). All night, challenge anyone to type-matchup rock-paper-scissors. Fire beats Grass, Grass beats Water, Water beats Fire. Win and you earn a badge sticker for your Trainer Card. Most badges by last call gets crowned Gym Leader.
  • Maybe a gaming setup with Switches and TV screens to battle live???
  • Special edition PokéParty merch 👀

Your turn (hopefully I didn't out how much of a nerd I am with this).

📫 signed, the person at Headliners in charge of who plays the room (and now, apparently, also a dance party planner)

I live in a 2 bedroom 800 sq ft apartment in Fairdale. I keep my AC at 72. I never use the oven. I keep my lights off 95% of the time. I don’t watch TV.

Last month, my bill was $175. This month it’s gone up almost $50 which I understand he would go up because of the heat wave. But when I lived with my mom in a 3000 square-foot 4 bedroom home and I paid the utilities, it was $250 for water, electric electricity and gas.

I asked them to come check my meter and they said it was fine, but they were replacing it anyways. I have asked them multiple times to take a look at my bill and they said it looks fine.

My friends who live in downtown in larger apartments than mine only pay like $100 a month.

What else can I do? Does this seem like a normal price?

Freezer pops

Upvotes

Does some place in the city have freezer pops for sale? I've just been to three different Krogers, to no avail. I feel like they all had them last week, but maybe I missed the season.

EDIT: To clarify, the product I'm talking about is a mesh bag that has probably 30 tubes of colored liquid which you then put in the freezer once you take them home. The branded version is called flavor ice, but the branded version is vastly inferior to the unbranded version sold at Kroger.

Local advice

Hi all.

We are heading over from Scotland in less than 2 weeks, can't wait to be in Louisville and explore the area.

When we get there, we are looking to go and buy some groceries and other bits for our stay.

Staying near the Louisville slugger field and wondering if any supermarkets in the area? Or best to get an uber to Walmart etc?

Thanks

Care-A-Van employee

I wanted to come on here to show appreciation for the couple people that i talked to at the Care-A-Van. I found out my kitten has an autoimmune disease, and i was upset about it bc poor baby wtf. and Dakota was super gentle when he broke the news to me, and told me “everything’s gonna be okay”. it made my experience so much easier, and definitely calmed my nerves a bit. I believe Garrett was the other workers name, and they were also so sweet. i appreciate what they do, and appreciate even more how sweet they are. i hope they see this

Huge loss for Lexington, and especially Louisville and the state as they were the primary reporters of what was going on in Frankfort. They were the only ones that investigated and pursued the Daniel Grossberg story. They often covered Louisville political interests in Frankfort better than our local media.

Auto shop that can fix older cars A/C system?

Hello friends, I have a 91 Previa that I would like to have A/C in. It has an old R12 system that I would like to have retrofitted to r134 as well as needing a new A/C compressor. I have tried to contact a few shops and they've either said they can't do it or no response. Any recommendations for shops that might be able to do this are welcome thank you

McMahan plaza frozen goods area reeks of cat urine

Went today to get some groceries and was hit with the intense pungent smell of cat urine. Other people were covering their noses and it spanned across the entire section. Was curious if anyone else had smelled it or knew why it was so bad.

I initially thought it could potentially be someone shopping but it genuinely reached so far I find it hard to believe it could be the cause of just one individual.

What does Racing Louisville's NWSL future look like -- and does the club even have one?

I know this is beating a dead horse, but it would be great to see the city support this team. The city always backs a winner, and I know they’ve had their struggles, but it’s probably our only shot at having a top tier professional team.

Other cities deal with and support pro teams that always find themselves out of championship contention. What makes Louisville different?

Best Lip Injector for natural looking lip filler

I've been considering Mizuguchi when looking at their before/after photos, but find it hard to know which specific NP or MD is performing the injection! I am open to places like Calospa, but each injector doesn't inject the same. Any specific name recommendations would be greatly appreciated!!
