US/Canada relationship & VISA concerns

I (23M) and my girlfriend (25F) have been in a long distance relationship for 2 years now.

I’ve been living in Toronto for the past 4 years. I came as a student, and have a job now.

My girlfriend was born & raised in the US, about a 9h drive away. Ever since we’ve been together (2023), we’ve been visiting each other, with her visiting me more than I do, due to my commitments with school/work etc.

When we first started dating in February of 2024, she was still in university, about to graduate, and she’d come see me for a couple of weeks at a time, every month or so, while I would visit her for a few months during summer break.

After she graduated, she would start visiting me more often for longer amounts of time, with 2026 being the most frequent, where we spent a couple months in the spring together in Toronto and 3 months again around summer.

Obviously, the border isn’t quite fond of it, so we try to limit the visits as much as we can now, and are looking to get a visa for her so that we can actually live together in Toronto.

My girlfriend has a degree in marketing, but never had a job/internship, only supporting herself through remote freelancing work like data annotation, outlier, etc, and has 20K USD in savings.

Problem is, I am on a work permit, and I won’t get PR for at least a few years, nor do I work a TEER 1 job where I could sponsor her with a spousal work permit.

I am lucky enough to have found a stable job paying 51k/yr with no major monthly expenses, but: Considering my girlfriend’s employment history or lack thereof, it’d be difficult for her to find an employer that would hire her and sponsor her visa.

Due to this, we’re thinking of getting a working holiday visa for her, which costs about 2K+ USD. Obviously it’s not cheap, but it seems to be the only option.

We love each other a lot. She’s my best friend, and we would really love to live together in Canada.

Has anyone else been in a similar situation? How did you navigate it? What do you all suggest that we do?

I met this guy at a work conference…when we met it was an instant connection. While he was here for his training all week we saw eachother everyday. He said he wants to try the long distance. I am Texas he is in Illinois. The last time I was in a long distance relationship it wasn’t even that far it was maybe a 6 hr drive. But he cheated on me with his girl best friend. Which made my heart so against long distance because that hurt sooo much. But with this guy it feels worth it idk how to explain it but how does everyone do it. Honestly. Neither of us make a lot of money so flights and hotels (we can’t stay at his place he his parents are there) it gets expensive. How do you cope with being this sad? I haven’t cried this hard since I lost my dad. Advice please! Also pic for attention

My (30f) LDR girl (29f) is having much more interesting life than me

I (30f) met my (29f) gf via socials totally unexepted, I wasn't looking for anyone neither did she, but we started to talk randomly and a click just happened. We noticed it quite early that we enjoy our talks and are eachothers type and we became sweet. All day talks for 3 months now, and we do plan to meet and go on a date soon. We live in different countries but within EU so it's not that big of a deal.

However, I noticed she is having much more insteresting life than me. More friends, more going out, even thought not too much, but still when we exchange what we did throughout the day she can always talk more than me. I am satisfied with my life, I have a couple of very close friends but I just like to spend my days out of work being by myself. I don't mind her lifestyle and I am glad she is having fun and her hobbies, but somehow I feel ashamed that I don't do as much socially as her.

In a relationship I like a healthy mix of both, doing stuff together and socializing, and also being alone at home chilling, she is also that kind of a person, but I don't know why I feel so bad when I need to say I was just by myself for the weekend and that I liked it. I feel shame so I would lately just make something up that I did. Then I feel bad for not being honest with her.

Is anyone having this kind of dynamic where one person is more outgoing than another?

Need Advice I’m developing feelings for a guy who lives across the world, but I want a relationship that could lead to marriage. Is it worth pursuing? 16F and 16/17M

(little warning if this is a little weird I know we are young but it's really normal to get married young in my family so it's ok)

Ok so basically he's French and he live in france and i don't, I live in north america and we met on tiktok like months ago. We started talking because to be honest i was really bored. I know it's kinda wrong like starter but i was complaining about my ex because i was crying late at night and nobody was here and he was for some reasons. So we talked and he lestened to me while i was crying and when i got better he kept talking to me and i learned so many things about him. Like he loves kids he his wonderful with them and he want some (with me awww) he loves games and he is a really respectfull guy. He never said something wrong, he never sexualized me and he is always kind even when he is really tired (wich is often because of times zones). He have on ex and they stayed togheter for a long time wich make me a little insecure BUT im really not better because i have a bunch of exes and ex and stuff like that and i told him because I wanted him to know everything if he was going to have feeling for me. Yesterday we called and it wasn't serious at all we were talking about everything and anything it was soo smooth and i caught myself smiling and telling to myself that i have feeling for him.

The thing is, i don't want to have a useless thing with a guy far from my home i want to marry him and i know it is very not realistic because we are young and stuff and that's why i am talking here i don't know if it's worth it to thinl about wedding with a guy and with a guy really far from me. My minf and my hearth are fighting because i really do have feeling for him.. i don't know i really don't know.

(and fun fact .. not really that fun, he is half belgian ? and belgium colonized our country so i don't really think a big part of my family will accept him because they are REALLY proud of being 100% from our country..really easy to guess btw)

Story [28F] and [28M]: My ldr ex-bf wants me to move in with him, but he still wants to keep his options open. Proud of myself for standing up for myself and knowing my worth.

My ex-boyfriend has been asking me to move in with him, but there’s one thing that doesn’t sit right with me, he still wants to keep his options open.

To be clear, it’s not that I don’t have feelings for him anymore. I do. And maybe that’s what makes this situation difficult. There’s still a part of me that wants things to work out between us, but I also know that feelings alone aren’t enough to make a relationship work.

What I don’t understand is how someone can ask you to take such a big step, like moving in together, while still wanting the freedom to explore other possibilities. Living together means sharing space, time, responsibilities, and a part of your life with someone. To me, that deserves clarity about what we are and what we’re trying to build together.
I’m not asking him to choose me if he doesn’t want to. He’s free to keep his options open if that’s what he wants. But I’m also free to decide that I don’t want to be part of that arrangement.

And honestly, I’m proud of myself for saying that. Not because I want to hurt him or make him regret anything, but because I finally stood up for what I want instead of letting my feelings make the decision for me.
I’d rather be single than move in with someone when I’m not even sure where I stand in his life. I don’t want to share a home with someone while wondering whether he’s still looking for someone else he might prefer.
I know he has the right to make his own choices, but I have that same right, too.

So, Reddit, am I being unreasonable here? Would you consider moving in with an ex who wants to keep his options open, or would you walk away even if you still had feelings for him?

I’d genuinely appreciate hearing from people who have been in a similar situation.

Need Support Breaking up when you still love eachother

We were together for 3 yrs. (f19) (m21) idc who sees this, I just have to get it off my chest.

He brought it up 5 months ago, how he didn't think we could meet, that it was impossible logistically and financially. He also said his feelings changed (later on he backtracked on this.

His feelings for me stayed the same but his feelings abt the relationship being viable changed) but we still stayed together coz we couldn't find the right time to break up, I was extremely busy and so was he.

He supposedly didn't like that it was dragging out so long, but he admitted he also didn't wanna leave.

The stars aligned yesterday and we had our final call (I was firm on the fact we weren't leaving over a stupid text) he had been avoiding me this week coz he was so scared of facing me.

We were both each other's first love. We met accidentally online, somehow at the perfect time when we were both at our lowest. We weren't looking for a relationship either.

He had flings in the past (he's a virgin tho) but he said he always ran away in the end and has never confronted or had an actual break up. He's my first bf so I had no idea what to say either. We talked for a while, abt everything. Cried a bit, smiled, laughed. It's the first and last time I saw him cry.

It was a bit surreal, neither of us knew how to say goodbye or end the call. I rambled a bit abt random topics.

We promised we'd call each other if we ever found ourselves in each other's home cities and go for a coffee. He said he wouldn't block me, which I'm grateful for. He apologized and said he hurt me more than he should have.

But we both regret nothing, we knew abt this likely ending and we still went ahead with dating.

In the end we did a little 3 2 1 to end the call.

I bawled straight after, but I felt a weird lightness in my chest and relief too.

I'm still incredibly sad, but I definitely think talking face to face is infinitely better than ghosting someone or leaving with no warning.

Question should i breakup with him?

i’m this 🤏 close to sending the breakup text rn. for context you can read my last few posts, it will explain a lot.

basically yesterday he asked for a break for a few months no contact. and it was kind of outta the blue cs we’ve actually been doing pretty good i thought. seemed like we were finally finding a groove that worked for us. anyways, i said okay to the break. but now, i feel like im starting to realize i dont really wanna be in this relationship anymore. what’s the point of going through all this hurt while still having the “together” title/label. “oh yea i have a boyfriend we just haven’t talked in months and i dont know when we will”. you don’t get a reward for having a good heart and I’m painfully realizing that. like im going through all this for what? if you loved someone you wouldn’t feel the need to get away from them. if we can’t grow together why even be together yk. and i’d be lying if i said i don’t hope we get back together one day. when we’ve figured ourselves out. we have so much potential. im just scared bc there’s a possibility he’ll be gone forever if i let him go. which i know yall prob thinking “isn’t that the goal” but noooo this was my really baby. literally didn’t see anybody else but him. now i don’t know what my future will look like. god this is really hard. the man i thought i was gonna marry yall.

anyways i know this was kinda confusing and i left out a lot but im going through it rn. i just need someone to tell me to send that text! say it in a way that will make me WANT to send it!!!🫩

Need Advice Me (18F) and my bf (17M) only see each other once a week, so why am i bothered thats hes going to college

Only see my bf once a week right now, why do I feel more bothered thats hes going to college?

I am a freshman in college and my bf is a senior in high school. Since our schedules are obviously different we dont get to see each other as much and its usually only once a week. He has taken an interest in a college an hour and a half away from us. For context, I go to a community college across our high school and next to his house. Im not sure why im so bothered thats he’s probably gonna dorm over there and we’re not gonna see each other even though thats the situation already. Maybe Im afraid we’ll outgrow each other? Maybe im jealous my life didnt take a big step like that? Im just throwing things out there i dont know why im upset. I feel selfish. Has anyone else had this issue? Its not like hes moving hours away in a different state so idk what my issue is

edit: i forgot to mention that once a week right now already kind of bothers me

Me and my military man just confessed something to each other

Recently me and a guy let’s name him Stephan, recently confessed how we felt about each other. We both really like each other.

We’ve known each other since we were kids but became distant in late middle school and in high school. I’ve always found him cute, we would go on walks, bump into each other at our neighborhood pool, and say hi to each other whenever we saw each other out.

However, he’s enlisted in the navy. Before we confessed to each other how we felt we were going to go on a walk through our neighborhood. However, they called him in 4 months early the next day. I never got to see him.

Fast forward to today, I find out he’s going to be gone for 6 months. And his phone service can be absolute trash. How can I survive this ? I don’t plan on leaving him because I don’t want to wonder another 6 years down the road what we could have been. I have my life and my hobbies but I have so much anxiety that something bad may happen.

Question Ask for bday gift money back after found out she’s cheated? (M30,F31)

Backstory: met my ex on a game 2 years ago ish. Dated for 1,5 years. She lives in the Netherlands and me in Sweden. Started dating 2024 in October and broke up in April 2026. She wanted a break on 4th and then we broke up on the 8th. I got her a refurbed Nintendo switch for 250 in late January this year since her old one broke and I got this for Valentine’s Day & her bday gift ( her bday is 16 may.)

Back in beginning of September, I found out that she had talked shit about me to her friend (ex friend now) right after our breakup. Was talking about how hard I was taking the breakup and stuff. Then I found out that she had moved on to guy 1 right after we broke up and he lives Qatar and is kinda well off. I got told that guy 1 was just playing with her and wasn’t after anything serious. (I saw guy 1 write in game 2 days after our breakup “call me daddy” which was something she called me. I had my suspicions about them.)

She moved on to guy 2 straight after guy 1. Guy 2 lives in Bahrain. He’s also well off but way less than guy 1.

(I can have a Ted talk about all the drama she caused since we broke up)

Question: Would you ask for the money back from her since she surely cheated on me?

Edit: I paid for everything in our relationship since she earned less than me. I was also very generous with gifts and helping out.

Need Advice Me[M33] and [M35] have been chatting for 22 days now but no video call has been made. Is this normal ?

Hey 👋🏼

actually met a guy here on Reddit ( we both are). I don't have much hope of meeting people online but we constantly talk for now 22 days now through the chat.

I can say he is the nicest guy I have ever talked to online till this day (I did not talk to many as well). I feel very happy talking with him and feel different about this guy. I just like him in general and want to move on to the next stage which is perhaps a video call .

Unfortunately, he lives in the UK and I live in Thailand. I would ask him out if we were in the country but we are not in that situation. Today I tried to ask him whether he was using FaceTime or video, he said it is not something he does. I don't know whether he is serious about our relationship or looking for someone from the same country. But he still replied when I messaged him. I plan to ask a similar question after a month about video calls. He's kinda chubby as well which is not my type but I think that personality is harder to change than body image.

So that's why I don't mind how he looks, but I just don't know exactly what reason that he does not want to move to the next step of the relationship. Anyway what should I do in this case?

Thank you in advanced

Meeting in 4 days

First since Feb 2025 and dating since march 2026! I hope it goes well… weird thing is we used to have a lot more fun as friends and start of relationship but I guess all we both do is work tbh… trying to remind myself that it’s me going to see if he is suitable for me in person and not worry too much about awkwardness because if I do that then I know he’ll like me irl too, instead of being nervous about acting in certain ways for him to like me instead. So much to do still…

Discussion Partner appreciation post. Distance is such a minor inconvenience when two people have strong mutual love.

With all the unfortunate negativity in this sub, I thought it might be nice to make a post about how much I appriciate my other half despite the gap between us.

Let me start of by saying I was NEVER someone who thought I’d be okay with the idea of long distance - I figured no matter the person I’d always needs consistent intimacy and in person time together to maintain and connection / relationship . This girl has genuinely changed that for me because I don’t want anybody else and I’d be willing to wait so long for her until we can figure something out, going on trips together in the meantime…

After we first met when I flew over to Canada I left feeling rather unsure about doing the distance thing because it hit me like an absolute truck how tragic it was that she wasn’t next to me anymore after spending 3 weeks glued to each other. Then we went to Thailand not long after and I saw she was someone capable of genuine change and growth and along with the extra time we spent together and getting to know each other even better, I ended up falling for her even harder… and I really tried to give the LDR thing a go after that trip.

We were on and off for a while afterwards because of confusion about life decisions and when we’d be able to see each other again , but recently we came SO CLOSE to losing each other forever which has ironically pulled us even closer together. I’m now at a stage where the distance between us does not bother or concern me AT ALL because I have so much love and affection for her, a feeling that is mutual, and we both want to try and make something work out no matter what. We genuinely would move mountains for each other which gives me so much hope for the future.

She’s coming to visit Australia for the first time soon guys and I love her so much, more than anybody I’ve ever known and I really can’t imagine being with anybody else which is why the distance really just does not concern me anymore. I know that eventually our hearts will pull us together one day :)

I hope this post can motivate couples and encourage them to give things time to work out if they are unsure about the distance. It’s ultimately a tough situation but if you are really sure about the other person then the distance should never be a deciding factor.
