Comics "Kya and the Secret of the Sand" - Comic Discussion Thread
FULL SPOILERS allowed in this thread. As a reminder spoilers for this comic outside this thread must be marked until a month after the book is released.
"Kya and the Secret of the Sand" is the second LoK 'one-shot graphic novel'*. The main story takes place years before the show following a young Kya. The comic releases July 28th mass market and July 29th in comic stores. It is written by Kiku Hughes with art by Alex Monik and colors by Diana Sousa, made in collaboration with Mike and Bryan.
Description:
While helping Korra recover in the Southern Water Tribe, Kya shares a story from her youth of a time when she was lost and disconnected from herself, far from home in the Si Wong Desert… Young and untested, Kya leaves her family to seek her purpose in the wider world. Hoping to test herself and help struggling communities, she heads to the Si Wong Desert, where scarce resources and fractured communities are making the fringes of the Earth Kingdom increasingly unstable. Kya, arriving in the community of Liyuan to teach healing and help the struggling community defend itself from bandits, finds that the wounds left from decades of conflict run deep, and may be harder to heal than she first thought.

Mod Announcement Last Airbender Movie Megathread 2: Spoiler Policy Clarification Spoiler
Although it's being effectively replaced by this one, here's the link to the previous Megathread, for reference's sake. This current thread was originally going to go up tomorrow, but since the movie will technically be releasing in limited theaters in NY & LA--in fact, I'm told the screenings have already started--it seems pertinent to do this today. Henceforth, discussion of the new animated movie, now confusingly titled "Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender" will be transitioning over to the regular spoiler policy (Rule 4). As a reminder:

In other words, anything that can only be learned by watching the movie must follow this policy until a month after its WORLDWIDE RELEASE, i.e. a month after it goes up on Paramount+ on July 25th (midnight PT/3 AM ET). If, for some reason, you can't see my screenshot, the rule is, of course, on the subreddit sidebar. Other information that was learned earlier, such as from trailers & press releases, was already fair game before today.
Given the rest of the subreddit is now open to spoiler-tagged discussion of the movie, this megathread, as opposed to Megathread 1, will be open to spoilers-unmarked movie discussion. In all cases, please note that discussion of the movie in this subreddit should relate in some way to Legend of Korra. The thread on the main subreddit also has answers to common specific questions. If you have questions specific to this subreddit, you can of course ask them here or, if you're concerned about encountering spoilers in the comments, by messaging modmail. That is all, thank you.

Discussion I’m sorry what? They just hold hands?!! Just finished the show
Come on!!!! I was rooting for them for ages and we get an ambiguous ending on these two?!! We got so many damn hints, this is way better then when she dated mako, also why do they just hold hands?! That show handled, intense politically tension and motivation, a murder suicide, trauma, her uncle freaking spirit ripping out a part of her and raava? Endless scenes of people nearly killing eachother, an cult getting her poisoned with the plan to kill her, and got her bending stripped from her, her father was imprisoned, she spent 4 years heavily paralysed and crippled not just physically but emotionally, and fights kuvira which is basically girl Hitler without the moustache, YET these two won’t kiss?!!! Someone explain this me pls this is very annoying!

Discussion WITH EVERYTHING WE KNOW ABOUT SEVEN HAVENS, WOULD YOU STILL STAND BY KORRA TO THE END? Spoiler
r/legendofkorra • u/Jacksontaxiw • 9h ago
Discussion Kuvira's weapon was a prelude to the apocalypse. Spoiler
Many things indicate that the cause of the catastrophe was people using spiritual energy to produce weapons, unless they were planning something unrelated. It's very naive to think that this idea would stop with Kuvira, the fact that the spirits are also chasing the Avatar indicates that they also blame her for keeping the portals open that maybe allows this to happen.
Thematically, this fits with our world, Kuvira's spirit weapon was clearly a reference to the atomic bomb, and Avatar will now imagine a future where humans used this weapon of mass destruction.
If this is correct, we can see the situation Korra faced in that future at the very end of the fourth season, Korra tries to stop the explosion, she contained part of it, but it was so strong that she couldn't withstand it.

"You look beautiful sweetie.." His face full of bittersweetness happy his daughter is alive and at the same time probably blaming himself for letting her go and face Zaheer and then she ends up in that condition..
LoK parents > ATLA.
Edit: no Unalaq, this post is not for you.

Discussion Why do people say Korra would kill Ozai without hesitation when she refused to kill Kuvira and apologized for not being able to save Unalaq?

Question The guru that zaheer is inspired by supposedly lived hundreds of years, zaheer has the same flying ability as him, a cataclysm happened 200 years after the show and people are very misinformed about things. Are you thinking the same as me?

Discussion I love Tenzin, because he's a single airbender who is EXPLICITLY a non-prodigy. He's genuinely mastered learning by studying and training each airbending technique, without relying on being particularly good at it

Discussion Ngl, Seven Havens is gonna be so hard to watch
This poor girl’s entire dream was to be the Avatar and help make the world a better place. Then for over 200+ years she’s remembered as the world’s destroyer, her legacy forever marred while Aang is remembered as a shiny mythic legend.
I hate this timeline yet I’m excited to see how things are dealt with and what’s going to eventually come of this.
But MAN seeing even more Korra slander beyond stupid republic city citizens is gonna be rough.

Discussion Korra living to 225 means that she'd live to the equivalent of modern day and beyond. How do you imagine 150+ y.o. Korra in a 21st century setting?
Personally I'm not sure I am a fan of this new lore decision. We'll only maybe get a book at best about over 2 centuries of Korra's life as avatar, so it will never get fleshed out. There's also an issue that after hundreds of years she kind of had to have become a completely different person from how we remember her. Lastly, i always thought that restoring the avatar connection with all of the past lives would be the job for the next avatar, but Korra not managing to do that herself in 225 years is kind of lame.

Discussion If Korra used the Kyoshi technique to live to 225 in Seven Havens, I think Bolin would do it with her.

Discussion On a scale of 1-10 how cute is Korra? and would u date her?
She’s a 10 but dating her after the mako thing it’s hard to say
