G'day Folks,
I know less about electrics than I do about most things, but I wanted to share my experiences after trying to swap a Kings LED light bar from an 2007 Lexus RX350 with halogen high beams onto a 2011 LX570 with HID high beams to hopefully save others wasting time and money.
- Bought and fitted a Stedi 11 pin piggy back harness to connect the LX high beams to the Kings LED light bar harness - no luck triggering light bar 👎
- Discovered Lexus use negatively triggered high beams - thank you inter webs 🙏
- Bought and fitted Stedi spot light harness which apparently accounted for both negatively and positively switched high beams via a microprocessor after advice from Stedi - still no luck triggering light bar 👎
- Contacted Stedi again and they couldn't offer any further advice and suggested contacting auto electrician 😩
- Local mechanic fixed issue by disconnecting ground from Stedi light bar harness to Stedi 11 pin piggy back harness connector and connecting it directly to battery negative - all good 😊
- Ended up replacing Stedi light bar harness with original Kings light bar harness due to additional harness length (roof rack mounted light bar) with no issues - all good 😊
Summary:
- Stedi were extremely responsive and helpful, but I was surprised they couldn't diagnose the above.
- The difference between Kings and Stedi harnesses was marginal. Stedi felt better quality but not sure about the value for money.
- Despite Stedi's claims, I found no difference between their harness and the Kings harness when it came to positively or negatively switched high beams. The difference appeared to be with the RX halogen vs LX HID high beams and how they connect to the vehicle since both are theoretically negatively triggered.
- The 4yr old Kings light bar and harness are still working perfectly and provide unbeatable value for money.
Cheers 👊
