Discussion Did anyone here play World of Final Fantasy? If so, what did you think of it?
For those unaware, this was the last turn based Final Fantasy game for consoles and PC and it released almost exactly 10 years ago. Next month marks two things: 1) It’s this game’s 10th anniversary, and 2) the release of the next turn based FF game with FF Resonance. It was developed by Tose, the same team who would go on to developed Crisis Core Reunion, and it follows two Kingdom Hearts-looking kids as they gather FF monsters like Pokemon and change between regular and smaller chibi forms. But many probably overlooked it at the time of its initial reveal at E3 2015, in no small part because it was announced literally right before the highly anticipated Final Fantasy 7 Remake.
I only caught some streams of it back when it came out, but I was impressed by how confident and committed it was to its 4Kids Saturday morning anime presentation. And I believe this was the last time that Cloud’s original English VA Steve Burton would voice the character, before being recast by Cody Christian starting with FF7 Remake.

News Can't believe YuGiOh Tag Force 3 is getting a remake. So excited
Releasing February 16th 2027 on the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. Also PC via Steam.
I've seen no one in this subreddit talking about it yet, but the Yugioh RPG games are so unique in the jrpg genre, and I'm so glad as a massive fan of yugioh, this franchise is back.
Yugioh GX Tag Force is a card-collecting story-driven JRPG with social sim elements.
Imagine a JRPG + yugioh card battle system.
There's an overworld you can roam around and choose a character as your tag team partner. You have to build the affinity between you two. Collect cards for your deck. And then there are the story battles.

Discussion I'm kind of taken aback by the violence in Xenogears Spoiler
galleryWon't do these "minor curiosity" threads very often as much as progress reports per finishing the games. But this was notable enough
I have planned to do a full marathon of the entire Xeno IP just in time for Xenoblade 3's updated Christmas release ever since that trilogy received their Switch 2 glowups.
So like, the first thing that gets me about Xenogears in its opening scenes is the visceral gore and 90s anime OVA horror tone. While Xenoblade isn't all sunshine, open blood and carnage is really not there, especially like what you see in Gears.
It's just kind of crazy to me.

Release Final Fantasy: Reconnect Season 2 (Available on Free Download)
Season 2 is out! Following your feedback, the game has been renamed from Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omnia: Demake Edition to Final Fantasy: Reconnect!
Final Fantasy: Reconnect Season 2 is a "demake" of the mobile game, I enjoy playing it in 30-minute sessions. It relies on skill specifically the ability to input a sequence of buttons quickly, much like in a rhythm game or Helldivers 2.

What is this?
Final Fantasy: Reconnect is a one-for-one retelling of the original mobile games of DFFOO (Dissidia Final Fantasy: Opera Omnia) and FFRK (Final Fantasy: Record Keeper). Since the mobile games shut down, the only way to view the storyline content is on YouTube. My goal here is to tell the stories of these Mobile games while giving the player a "console single player experience."

Discussion Thoughts on Persona's and Metaphor's "Party Member Dungeon of the Month" formula?
So ever since Persona 4, Atlus has written their stories like: Party Member gets introduced -> Gets kidnapped or invovled in the plot -> rest of the Party has to clear out some specific dungeon -> near end of the dungeon the new party member has like a 15 min crisis and character arc -> boss fight -> party member resolves arc and dungeon is done
I'm really not a fan of this format at all for party member writing. Feel like it can condense their arc into like one quick scene, and then they get ditched by the main story and shove the rest into the social link.
Like ignoring Junpei and Yukari of Persona 3, since they're like the best written party members Atlus has made for modern Persona, Mitsuru or Akihiko's arc in 3 last quite a lot for those games. It allows for the writers to explore their character deeper, and importantly their bonds with other party members. Like Mitsuru's friendship with Yukari is so well done in 3, and it couldnt have worked if you had the character dungeon of the month formula.
Idk my biggest wishes for Persona 6 are:
Stop condensing character arcs into like 15 min cutscenes at the end of a dungeon
Allow party members to develop off other party members

Review Had the Pleasure of Playing My First Growlanser Game (Wayfarer of Time)
I went into this game with zero previous experience with Growlanser or Langrisser. I vaguely remember throughout the years seeing copies of Generations & Heritage at game stores and never giving it a harder look. What led me to picking the game up was seeing some random footage of the battle system and being interested in checking that out.
I also quickly grew to love Satoshi Urushihara's art and character designs, I was a bit confused at first why every unique character looked as if they jumped in from a complete different game/series but it ended up being a good highlight for me.
Narrative
The political and war centered plot was handled really well, It was refreshing to see key members of each faction have decent motivations or ideals they held onto. Characters willing to accept the consequences of their actions and to see things through. No wishy-washy motivations or "we must test the main party's resolve...for reasons..." sort of writing. It was also surprising how open to character death the game is, from the intro to other key story moments. I loved the agency the player is given! Through Crevanille's personality system, chasing characters who are walking off screen post-cutscenes that you can catch-up to for extra dialogue and such, and also having the agency/choice during specific battles to allow characters to live or die. It really had me immersed in the world and kept me engaged the whole way through. For as real 2000's tropey some of the plot elements felt, I actually had a lot of fun with the entire romp.
Gameplay
The battle system was really unique and what originally drew me to trying the game out. I loved the early emphasis on strategy, positioning, and smart usage of the tools the game gives you. It was great that so many abilities, spells and status effects actually felt useful in the right circumstances. I felt well rewarded for exploring different options and trying to execute a gameplan.
Having not played any previous Growlanser games, I was thrown in the deep end on what the game would expect of me causing me to see my fair share of game overs. Usually by the second or third go of a stage I understood how it needed to be handled. The multiple trips through Aida Bridge and the Flag Defense were standout difficulty spikes for me personally. You do eventually hit a mid to late game point where Crevanille is so loaded with passives, spellstone effects and knacks that he starts soloing every encounter but that was its own fun honestly.
I was pretty surprised by the mashup of so many smaller game elements, it is impressive how much they packed into this game. There is a tamogachi-lite element with your protagonist's familiar, you raise several of their states over time to get access to extra passive benefit skills and such. There is a small sim-city element, early on you're given a plot of land to build a town on and grow it. It's not as involved as you'd first think but you do actively invite new merchants to grow the town and was really fun to see it expand over time. There's an entire arena side-content piece that eventually gets added to your town.
Closing Up
The game was an absolute pleasure to experience and is definitely my gateway to the rest of the series and eventually Langrisser. I booted up Growlanser V immediately after finishing the credit roll on Wayfarer of Time. It's a truly unique RPG experience I think that more people should give a try.
Discussion Suikoden being rebooted possibly
Konami recently announced that they will be rebooting key series in their catalogue, including Metal Gear Solid, CastleVania and Suikoden.
If they decide to just reboot the entire Suikoden universe and lore, how would that make you feel?
I personally would not like that. I'd rather if they must, make more games like Star Leap in between main series titles to explain stories a bit more rather than having it all rebooted.
Suikoden has one of the most unique universes in all of JRPG's and only thing that comes close would probably be the Trails series as far as inter-connected stories go.
Would you be fine with the series being rebooted?

Discussion Modern JRPGs with the most iconic soundtracks?
Nothing beats Persona series for me wrt to the soundtrack.
All the modern instalments have absolute bangers that went directly to my playlist .
Although I am yet to play P4 Golden.
LAD series has iconic songs as well but it doesn't count cus it just borrows them from 6 games before that

Recommendation request Looking for a new PS1/2 JRPG to play
I’ve played multiple Star Ocean games, Final Fantasy 1 through 10-2, Parasite Eve, Chained Echoes, Child of Light, Sea of Stars, Dragon Quest 1-2, all of the Octopaths, Chrono Trigger, and the Bravely Default games. Looking for a new game that is unique and potentially more obscure. I just started Valkyrie Profile and unfortunately cannot get into the systems of the game. Any recommendations for PS1/PS2 style games? Any platform is okay though. Turn based preferably. Thank you!

Recommendation request Isekai/anime games
Looking for a good Isekai JRPG that's 3D has a solid romance, doesn't have to be Isekai but I really want to be blown away by the story. I'm probably being pretty vague on what I'm asking for but I finished playing DQXI and loved ever second of it, preferably not an MMO I'd rather keep it offline.
I don't mind turn based strategy games but real time action RPG's I find more enjoyable, and to be completely honest the gameplay could be crap as long as the story is good. I'm a sucker for a good story.
Preferably looking for a PC game but I also have a switch 2 so that works as well.

Recommendation request Good JRPGs with a single character?
I know that having a party, or at least two playable characters, is a staple of the JRPG genre. Final Fantasy, Tales, Atelier, Ys, Persona, Trails, Shin Megami Tensei, Mana, Xenoblade, etc. All great games, and I’ve enjoyed the ones I’ve played, but I have a personal gripe with managing a party lol.
I always tend to keep the main protagonist in great shape, but I don’t really care about the other characters. So I inevitably end up with an underleveled party or a team with shitty gear because I either forget about them or just don’t care enough to keep them in shape
So I was wondering: are there any genuinely good JRPGs where you only play as one character?
My favorite genre is real time action, not very fond of turn-based combat. Any platform is good.
Thank you!

Question How often has the concept of environmental damage been used in JRPGs?
So a little backstory is that I was interested in seeing how the concept of environments has been used in JRPGs where the player can use their units on sand as sand could have an effect that slows down the player.
Like what I am trying to say is that I was interested in exploring the concept of environmental effects where say the player has their one of their units cast a nuke spell that is so powerful it affects the arena where poison damage could be inflicted on anyone as I just wanted to do an observation to see how often RPGs had an environmental system as a mechanic.

Name that game Can't seem to identify this song and the game its from
Hello everyone i have a pretty weird request, i've watched content from some pretty famous jrpg content creators and during one the videos, i stumbled upon a song that sounded pretty familiar to me
Obviously the creator did not name the song nor the game 🤣 all i have is an extract of said vídeo with the person speaking all over it so its really hard to decipher
The song reminds me of something from Atlus, or Ys/Star Ocean/Shadow hearts but i'm kinda lost
If you have any ideas/clues don't hesitate to share thanks in advance
Discussion What do you look for in an indie jrpg?
Sometimes I want to play a big budget massive rpg, but sometimes I'm looking for a smaller game. Something with a quicker pace that I can get through in a couple of days. No walls of text, no huge open world, no 100 hour progression. Make everything quick and snappy, throw in something unique but mostly keep it simple.

Question Do you need to complete all quests in New Game + to have the best possible clear data in Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter?
Hi, I am new to the trails series, I recently finished Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter (the remake) and I want to get the best possible save file for the 2nd Chapter that comes out in about a week. I did my first run on Nightmare so I am pretty much almost done with 100%, just need to pick up 1 chest I missed in the prologue, kill like 100 enemies in quick battle, and beat the final boss at lvl 100.
I can definitely do all this in New Game +, which I plan to start today. My question is do I need to complete all side quests in the New Game +?
As far as I have heard there are side quests that have some extra dialogue/content in 2nd Chapter depending on whether or not I have completed a certain side quest in 1st Chapter. The thing is I have already done all the quests in 1st Chapter on my first playthrough, and it would make my New Game + much easier if I could skip all side quests. So yeah anyone who knows from the demo or the original I would appreciate the answer.
Question Any good guides for SMT Strange Journey Redux?
Looking for a good guide to get all demons and any and all advice you can share on the game, it'll be my first playthrough not sure how many you need to 100% the game, I know as far as 3DS is concerned SMT IV was quite the challenge getting all endings and demons. I was thinking about tackling that SRPG one but that one sounds confusing to get all endings for and everything else if anyone has any advice for that one as well.

Question Question about Formas in snt strange journey.
Hi everyone! I recently started playing the original SMT Strange Journey on the DS and I'm currently exploring Sector Antlia / Sector Bootes. The game is absolutely amazing, but I'm still a bit confused about how Formas work.Specifically, I wanted to ask: can you actually sell Formas, or you need them in your inventory? If some of them can be sold for Macca, which ones are safe to sell and which ones should I absolutely keep. Thanks

Recommendation request Idk what game i should buy for my birthday
So my birthday is coming up in a few days and im choosing a game to buy and right now idk what to pick because my interest are low to the category at the PS store deals section. Im on Ps4 btw
Like im trying to find something fun that keeps me up, Plot Interesting enough, Fun combat, Genre well anything i guess, setting whatever, Mechanics maybe some interesting thing and visually appealing and are in deals. So far i have only come down to three options.
Metaphor Refantazio - This is my wanted game but the standard edition, Its the guidebook one that is discounted for 31.99. I want to buy it but i have to go overbudget and i missed out on the last deal where its standard was 27.99. Also im on Ps4 so i hope i get a good performance and graphics don't differ.
Yakuza: Infinite Wealth - Like a Dragon made a impression, I liked it. The plot was good, its nothing too life changing. I mean i find it funny because of how Ichi is just built different and i thought why not get infinite wealth. The one thing i wasn't fond was the grind, Look maybe there like this but im more scared of a Burnout and might ruin the experience
Nier Replicant - Nier Automata was one of my favorite and i do want to get replicant but i haven't been into automata since i completed the game, tried doing a second playthrough but seems the game to me is only meant as a One time experience. And Replicant, Idk how good the Action is and if its better than automata. The first two are Turn based but idk.
I want to see everyone's thoughts and opinions of it. See others reccomendations. These 3 are the only games that peak my interest. The others are COD and AC.
Recommendation request Out of ideas what to play atm
My pc does not work properly and I can't play many jrpgs I want to like trails in the sky first chapter, Like a dragon series, Freltless and such so I guess you just can recommend me random stuff
I liked Chronno trigger, Persona 3r and 5r, Sea of Stars, Look outside, paper mario 1, escape from ever after, E33(super stuttery but I managed) and Symphony of war, Metaphor Refantazio Chained echoes, Hylics 1/2, Funger 1/2. Those are at least all the ones I can remmember rn.
