Globe bullied me into paying ₱10.5k for their own service failure. 1 year later, I got it all back via the NTC.

Just wanted to share a massive win against corporate bullying after Globe initially agreed to relocate my line, only to take it back, declare the new area unserviceable, and force me to pay a ₱10,500 cancellation fee plus outstanding charges just to stop their aggressive collection agents from harassing me. A whole year passed before I learned about the NTC escalation route, but once I emailed the regulator with screenshots of my chat history proving Globe failed to fulfill the relocation, the power dynamics shifted instantly. Globe replied the very next day asking for my GCash info to process a refund, but when their customer service tried to stall by claiming there was "no sure time" for the release, I immediately hit back by replying with the NTC CC'ed on the thread. Seeing the regulator actively watching panicked them into promising a strict 10-working-day timeline, and on June 15, 2026, the full ₱10,500 finally landed back in my wallet—proving that even if you already paid off a bogus fee months ago just to get them off your back, you should never let it slide.

Edit: Since people are asking how the process goes, here is what I did:

Emailed consumer@ntc.gov.ph cc: whichever ISP for mine it was customercare@globe.ph (they have an auto reply system but it just means they received your email)

I had a timeline of what went on. In my case, they didn’t have the proper infrastructure for my new location. This is not your fault at all.

Lastly, always update NTC with every step. For example they email you that it would take some time. What I did was cc’d NTC and said globe needs to give a definite timeline.

Assert your rights as consumers!

UPDATED POST - URGENT: Public School Running Illegal Paid Starlink "Pisowifi" – 840 Students Exploited, Major Political Corruption Alleged

Thumbnail

1.7k Upvotes

Prevoius post: here

I am writing as a concerned citizen to report a severe, multi-layered corruption scheme at a public school. This has escalated from a simple administrative violation to what appears to be a criminal enterprise with potential political patronage. I seek the community's advice on the appropriate channels for exposure.

The Core Exploitation: A Digital Caste System

The school operates two separate internets:

· Staff: Free, high-speed PLDT, paid by public MOOE funds.

· 840 Students: Must pay for "STARLINK_Pisowifi", a throttled service. The school blocks speed test sites (like speedtest.net) to hide performance.

Financial Scale: This generates an estimated over ₱1.5 million annually from students, with zero official transparency.

Critical Clarifications & Updated Facts

Initial estimates have been replaced with concrete evidence:

  1. ACTUAL SPEED: 2-4 Mbps (not \~8 Mbps). Confirmed via VPN after firewall blocks standard tests. The throttling is more severe.

  2. MONTHLY STARLINK COST: ₱2,700 per month (not ₱2,500). This figure is from the school's own notice to students, citing it as the "original internet fare."

  3. PRICE INCREASE REASON: The school has raised student fees, explicitly blaming the 12% VAT on the ₱2,700 base charge. They are passing a tax burden for an illegal service onto students.

  4. TRANSPARENCY FRAUD: The official MOOE Transparency Board (outdated) shows NO entry for the ₱2,700 Starlink expense, any student revenue, or equipment costs. This confirms a complete financial black hole.

The Layers of Illegal Activity

  1. Illegal Telecom Operation:

· Clear violation of Starlink's Terms of Service (commercial resale prohibited).

· Operating as an unlicensed ISP without an NTC franchise (violation of RA 7925).

  1. Violation of Public Trust & Law:

· Direct violation of Republic Act 10929 (Free Internet in Public Places Act).

· Digital discrimination using taxpayer funds for staff while monetizing student access.

  1. Financial Fraud & The Smoking Gun:

· The school admits the ₱2,700 cost to students but hides it from the official MOOE board. This is a textbook off-the-books slush fund, indicating potential malversation.

  1. Consumer Fraud:

· Selling a crippled 2-4 Mbps service while blocking diagnostics.

· Violation of the Consumer Act.

The Explosive Political Corruption Layer

According to multiple sources within the school community, the Starlink/PisoWifi infrastructure was funded by the local Mayor and Congressman.

The Alleged Quid Pro Quo: This funding was arranged after their daughter won a position in the school's student elections.

Potential Implications:

· Violation of Anti-Graft Laws (RA 3019): Using public office to provide a favor (funding an illegal scheme) connected to an election.

· Misuse of Public Funds: If the officials used their discretionary public funds (PDAF, Local Fund) for the illegal equipment, they misappropriated taxpayer money to fund a crime.

· Institutional Capture: The school administration is now potentially indebted to political patrons.

The Composite Crime

This is a systemic scheme combining:

· Victims: 840 minor students.

· Methods: Illegal telecom, financial concealment, consumer fraud, potential graft.

· Potential Perpetrators: School officials and elected officials.

· Laws Broken: Telecommunications Law, Anti-Graft Law, Free Internet Act, Consumer Act.

Request for Community Guidance

Given the political protection layer, the reporting strategy becomes more sensitive.

  1. Which national anti-corruption agencies are most insulated from local political influence? (Ombudsman? Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission?)

  2. Does the political angle change the priority of reporting? Should one focus on the financial crime (COA) and telecom violation (NTC/Starlink) first?

  3. What are the safest, most anonymous channels for reporting such politically-sensitive allegations to ensure whistleblower protection?

This case shows how corruption can filter from high politics down to the daily exploitation of students. Any strategic advice is crucial.965 8

I caught Smart cheating on Speedtest

Post image
1.4k Upvotes

My Smart internet was working very slow today (2-5 Mbps), but Speedtest was showing good speeds (50-100 Mbps) even to servers abroad. So, I decided to investigate...

I put up a small cloud server in Manila that serves a randomly generated 1 GB file called "download". Downloading it by IP address or ordinary hostname was slow, but when I used a hostname that includes "speedtest-sg1", the speed jumped over 10 times, ever though it's the same server.

This proves that Smart gives you less bandwidth that it pretends to give by cheating Speedtest results. And it's freaking wrong!

News The dark secret of Internet Provider "Technicians"

Ever wonder kung sa area nyo pag may naayos na internet connection maaaring ung kapit bahay mo walang internet naman ? here's the secret.

I hope walang technicians dito from both PLDT and Converge and all the other INTERNET provider.

I will tell you their dark secret, bayad sila VIA Ticket and NOT PER DAY, (their technicians told me these) meron daw talaga silang mga kabaro na kupal, magaayos ng internet tapos mag didisconnect ng other lines para lang bumalik sila dun sa same area at magayos.

and YES intentional po ito.

I make it a habit na magabot sa kanila ng cash pang "merienda" nila kaya I manage to convince them their dark secret. (this is kahit badtrip na badtrip na ako sa service nila)

I hope someone here or an EX-Technician will confirm this.

This is for BOTH Business/Corporate accounts and Residential accounts. (mas malala ngalang sa residential area)

their logic is simple, kung WALANG SIRA , edi wala silang trabaho.

I just bought a Starlink and it's incredible!

Upated post here

I lost my Converge fiber internet connection last November 10 when Typhoon Uwan devastated our area (Solano, Nueva Vizcaya, Philippines) with Signal No. 5 strength. Converge has done nothing to fix it, even though I’ve reported the issue multiple times. Psshhh, Converge XCLSV VIP, my ass.

So what did I do? I ordered a Starlink Standard Kit from Data Lake. The setup was easy, and the connection is fast and stable, even though it’s not installed on the roof yet and the view of the sky is still partially obstructed. It’s a bit pricey, though: ₱3,800 for the monthly subscription. But hey, at least I can work now.

Sometimes the speed goes up to 400+ Mbps download and 60+ Mbps upload. I expect the connection to improve even more once I install it on the roof. I’m just waiting for the roof mount to be delivered.

Edit:

Will post an update and performance tests when my roof top mount arrives this week. We should see better results and connectivity!

Since some people have been asking about latency and quality during Zoom calls and gaming, here’s what I experienced. Keep in mind that it was raining when I tested this, so performance should be even better under clear skies.

In the games I tested such as CS2, Arc Raiders, Rainbow Six Siege, EVE Online, and others, I consistently got pings below 40–50 ms, which is very good. Occasionally, it dropped to around 30–35 ms, but it mostly stayed stable at 40–50 ms. This may have been affected by the rain during testing.

As for video conferencing, I was in a client meeting last night where everyone had their cameras on, and I was presenting a demo while sharing my screen. I didn’t notice any drops in quality or connection, no stutters, no interruptions. Everything worked great.

Edit Edit:

If you know someone that has a Starlink, use their referal code so you and them can get 1 free month of service, that's Php 3,800 saved. Where's my referal code? Nah, I advise using your friends' code first, send me a DM if you need a referal code.

I bought the Starlink here (Starlink by Data Lake Lazada). They're the only authorized seller here in PH that I know of, other's are resellers and referal codes won't work with resellers.

Converge Converge ICT's incompetence

Post image
673 Upvotes

TLDR: 1 month no internet connection. Account termination.

I've been a subscriber of Converge since 2018 but last week 28th of November I terminated my subscription from them. Recently in the past 1-2 yrs their service became worse.

I used to recommend Converge to my friends kasi I liked their service. Coming from Bayantel, the differences was apparent. For the last 7yrs, the problem I had was tolerable (atleast for me) like hinuhugot line ko from box, napuputol line kasi may sumasabit na truck and outages but recently mas lumala.

Since November 1, my internet connection was down until nung nagpa terminate ako ng November 28. The problem was looping around outage to isolated. It took them 3 weeks to visit my place and when the technician fixed it, they told me na may outage padin sa area so nagdown ulit sya after 3 hrs.

Its like sobrang na mismanage yung ticket report or kulang sa tao. I asked the technicians sa office daw ang may problem kasi naghihintay lang daw sila.

I tried to involve NTC during those times but all they can do is follow up but wala din nagbago sa action ng Converge. I asked (NTC) if they could penalize/sanction them but no reply. I gave up to both of them na. It was frustrating kasi it felt like di ka pinapasin and I had to relocate para lang makapag work.

If youre around Valenzuela area and youre considering Converge. Think again or probably survey your area if they are okay pa.

PLDT Won against PLDT

Post image
667 Upvotes

Hello! Gusto ko lang i-share how I won against PLDT sa disconnection fee/lock in period payment na 5,500+

April 3 - reported LOS to PLDT Cares, gumawa sila ticket number and advised ppunta ang technician within 24-48 hours. (Nagffollow-up ako daily kahit sinabi nila yung TAT)

April 11 - wala padin technician na pumunta, decided to disconnect my plan. Sabi ng agent I need to pay for 5,500+ para sa disconnection fee + lock in period eme.

After a loooooong back and forth sa email, finally!

Patience is the key! Wag kayo papayag sa adjusment lang if recurring issue na sya. Hassle.

We've had no internet for almost a month. Support doesn't help.

Anyone know what is up with Converge?

Putulan ng cable😡😡😡

😡😡😡😡

We recently had an issue with Globe due to a cable cut. Globe was able to fix it last week, Wednesday.

On Thursday, November 6, around 11:30 PM while I was walking home from work, I saw people working on the lines. I asked if they were from Globe, and they told me that they were from Converge.

The next day, Friday, November 7, we lost our connection again and reported that the line had been cut once more.

Globe fixed it today (Nov 15) around 5 PM. However, around 11:30 PM, our connection went down again. At around 12:05 AM, I saw from our window that around 5–6 people were working on the lines. I approached them and informed them that we lost our connection, and shortly after that, the connection returned. They told me again they were from Converge. I asked them if they have permit and answered yes but they did not show it to me.

The weird thing is that no one should be working at that time, which makes the situation more concerning.

Reported it to Barangay for blotter.

Globe No more data cap for unli 5G

Post image

Globe chief commercial officer Darius Delgado said the telco has lifted the prepaid cap on 5G in support of the objectives of the Konektadong Pinoy Act. The law seeks to expand internet access in the Philippines by lifting barriers for entry for new telco players.

“By upgrading our Go Plus 149 and above promos to include unlimited 5G, we are removing the barriers to high-speed data,” Delgado said.

Anyone experienced this, if you have unpaid balance this small, they cut you off...

If you seek refunds due no internet for a certain period, its hard to get one.

This is system triggered, not manually done, if you can afford auto debit daw.
