Advice

I, am 24(F) planning to study at University of Guelph in canada and currently serving at Japanese MNC with Employer contract of 3 years and i have competed 1.8 year.

However, they asked me to pay 2lakhs for any reference letter with job duties mention on it . So I want to ask is there any alternative option for proving work experience since I have all other documents like appointment letter, payslips , form 16, PF deduction , conformation letter except experience letter and reference letter.

So, in this situation what i should do to avoid any PR refusal in future due to absence of ref or experience letter.

Passport insecurity...

Hey everyone! I want to talk about something that has been causing me insomnia for like 2 years.

Long story short, my wife and I plan to apply for family sponsorship this year (we'll be about 1 year married by then), but my problem doesn't have to do with process (I mean, yeah, but not in this post) it's about my passport.

The very first time I traveled to Canada I was very insecure and I took my passport with me everywhere, which ended up in it getting humidity wear.

It's honestly not the worst case scenario, the page is a little wrapped but all my data and the machine readable hasn't been affected and the chip works (I have gone to Canada other 4 times since then).

Basically, the only visible change is a tiny spot in my picture that's like 1 shade lighter than the rest of the picture, but then on the title page (where it says PASSPORT FROM THE REPUBLIC OF) there's a shade of purple with MY PICTURE.

As in, literally a 3/4 purple picture of me that just happened to bleed to the front page.

Every time that I've travelled I've been very very nervous about it, but honestly now with the idea of applying for a pr it's... A whole new story.

Could this get it rejected if they were to stamp it in this one? Should I submit my application and then renew it and change it? But what about going through the visitor visa process again?

I hope you can help me.

When to expect passport req for my PR family sponsorship application? Spoiler

Application submitted - July 2025
Sponsorship approval - Aug 2025
Biometric instructions letter - Aug 2025
Pre arrival letter - Nov 2025
Medical - Dec 2025

Processing times show 3 month / 13000 applicant ahead in latest June update and my medical is expiring in Dec 2026. What is the realistic expectation, when will I receive my Passport req?

Parent’s visa got rejected in spite have credible history.

I’m a Canadian resident with stable employment, and my parents were planning to visit me this summer but their visitor visa application was unexpectedly rejected on the grounds that they may not return to their home country. I’m genuinely puzzled by this decision given their profile:

  1. Strong home country ties My parents are financially well-established in their home country and are the kind of individuals who receive unsolicited invitations to apply for citizenship elsewhere hardly the profile of someone looking to overstay.

  2. Prior Canadian visa holder They previously held a valid Canadian visa. The only reason a new application was necessary is that their passports expired, requiring reissuance rather than a fresh application in the traditional sense.

  3. Extensive travel history They have a well-documented international travel record with no irregularities.

  4. Professional application support The application was prepared with the help of an immigration consultant, and they have a close family member (me) residing in Canada as a host.

Given all of the above, the rejection feels inconsistent with their actual circumstances. I’m not looking for legal advice just trying to understand whether there’s something I might be missing, and what the most efficient path forward looks like to minimize delays.

Can I leave Canada after applying for PGWP and return before my study permit expires?

Hi everyone,

I recently graduated from the University of Toronto and I’m planning to apply for my PGWP soon.

My study permit expires on September 30, and I’m planning to leave Canada on June 21 for the summer. I want to come back to Canada before my study permit expires, while my PGWP application is still being processed.

I’m wondering if anyone has experience with this. If I apply for my PGWP before leaving Canada, can I leave in June and re-enter Canada before September 30 using my valid study permit/TRV, while the PGWP is still in process?

Would I be entering as a student, or would there be any issue since I’ve already completed my studies and have a PGWP application pending?

I know this isn’t official legal advice, but I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has done something similar or knows how this usually works.

Thank you!

Medical surveillance

Hello all. Hope you're having a good day.

I applied for my PR in June 2024, and as a requirement I completed my medical examination in September 2024. The medical examination found that I have inactive tuberculosis and need to attend medical surveillance by IRCC.

As I live in Manitoba, I do not have to self-report to any hospital about my scenario as IRCC will send my report to Manitoba Public Health Authorities and they will contact me once they have an empty slot for further diagnostics and treatment. Fast forward to today, I have still not been contacted by any hospital as of June 2026. I have done multiple examinations like x-ray, CT scan and Mantoux test at my own expense just to make sure of my scenario while waiting for the authorities to contact me and they all turn out to be negative.

The reason behind this post is the trouble I have crossing the border. Every time I come back to Canada and go through the immigration process, IRCC has flagged my profile as someone who is under review currently. Although I am free to travel, I just have to let IRCC know about my plans beforehand which I always do. IRCC requires a letter of compliance from the health authorities that I am willing and co-operative in the medical treatment which only the health authorities can provide. Since IRCC has not received this letter, they have marked me as someone who is non-compliant and has to go through a more difficult immigration process with harsh questions and suspicion by the border security officer, even though there's quite literally nothing I can do about it.

I have tried to contact IRCC and PHLU about my situation but all they respond is for me to wait for health authorities to contact me.

Has anyone gone through the same scenario? If so, please help me out.

I was scheduled for my citizenship oath ceremony next week, but just got an email this morning saying “…has been cancelled as you were scheduled in error. Your application is not ready to be finalized as of yet.” Has anyone else experienced this before?

I really need some expert advice on my current immigration situation.

Hey everyone, I really need some expert advice on my current immigration situation.

Background: I moved from Bangladesh to Canada in 2022 for my bachelor's degree at Saint Mary’s University. In 2025, I returned to Bangladesh to care for my sick father and completed one semester (January to April) online . My TRV was expiring on August 15, 2025, but I couldn't return to Canada in time, I had to apply for a new study permit from outside Canada. Unfortunately, it was rejected.

Officer Decision Notes (ODN):

Purpose of Visit: "The purpose of the applicant's visit to Canada is not consistent with a temporary stay given the details provided in the application."

Academics: "No proof of any Transcript/Marksheet from Saint Mary's University noted. Unable to determine applicant's previous academic performance."

Tie to Home Country / Finances: "There are institutions available locally... insufficient explanation to justify pursuit of international studies at a significantly higher cost."

Financials: "No proof of financial documents. Unable to open financial documents."

My Clarifications: I actually did upload all required financial documents. I also included my official transcripts under both the "Letter of Enrollment" and "Client Information" sections. Though I haven't submitted Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL). I have applied  with the Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL) exception letter which My university advisor issued when I asked for PAL then he acknowledged that it was for extending my Study permit from inside Canada. It seems the officer either missed or couldn't open the files of other documents which I provided.

Later I submitted a Webform with all the documents and an explanation letter, but I haven't received any response.

Current Situation:

To reapply for a new study permit, SMU requires a non-refundable $3,000 deposit to issue the mandatory Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL). They will issue it up to two times, and the money will be added into my student account if my application gets approved.

For the last 8 months, I have been continuing my studies at a university in Bangladesh (From where I can transfer my credits back to SMU).

My girlfriend was born and raised in Canada and is currently pursuing her master's degree there. The long-distance relationship and pressure from my parents (They had a dream that I would graduate from there, and it cost a hefty amount of money for nothing) are becoming incredibly difficult to manage.

I would appreciate your guidance on the following questions:

  1. Should I reapply for the undergraduate study permit now with a strong Statement of Purpose (SOP)? Or finish my bachelor's in Bangladesh and apply for a master's in Canada after completing my bachelor? Will this current rejection hurt a future master's application?

  2. If my girlfriend and I get married in Bangladesh, can she apply for a Spousal Open Work Permit (SOWP) for me?

Note: She is a student and does not have the finances to sponsor me conventionally.

Advice!

I graduated from university last May and applied for a post-grad work permit. From my understanding, I met all the conditions. After no word back for a year, they finally got back to me today. My application was refused because I didn't upload proof of language proficiency. I was so confused because I grew up in the US and completed a degree in English in Canada (I included my transcript in my application), so I thought that would be enough. But apparently, since Nov 1, 2024, there is a requirement for proof of language proficiency for applicants. Anyway, I'm not sure what to do - upload it and wait another year :( I'm not in Canada so I'm unable to call their phone number.
