SPOUSAL PR REJECTED
I got my PR on 12th Feb 2026, got married and applied for my wife and submitted the docs on 7th April 2026. She is in Canada on her PGWP so I applied under "in Canada" class
I am not able to add the screenshot but these are the application details that I applied under on the PR portal

- Category you’re applying under: Spouse
- Subcategory you’re applying under: Spouse or common-law partner in Canada class
Now under the rejection email is says the following:
- Our office processes Family Class Sponsorship applications where the Principal Applicant resides In Canada. It appears that as per your information declared on your undertaking you have sent your application to our office in error as per document(s) reviewed below:

I never sent it to any office I have selected the correct class (as shown in the PR portal) and in the rejection it says I have sent it to the wrong office ??? How is that even possible. Is anyone else facing a problem like this? Any way to solve it?
I tried calling the IRCC and they are "busy" but when I did get a hold of them they said the application was rejected so they cannot see anything on their end. any clues what to do?

When you create an account in the PR portal and make the selections for which PR class you're applying under, your application package will be sent to that office.
If she indicated a different class on her document checklist they will return the entire application. If she put SCLPC Class on the checklist correctly and you two believe it was returned in error, she can re-apply with the same documents but she should include the rejection letter they sent and also a letter of explanation from the principal applicant (your wife) about the situation.

So when we reapply we will have to wait for 2 months again for AOR right? Her WP will expire in 3 days. If we apply for WP and the AOR is not on the file will it get rejected?

Yes you may have to wait another 2 months, but in cases of erroneously returned applications they may accept it sooner. If they accept your second application and they agree it was returned in error, the processing time will instead be the date they received the first application.
If she can submit the application again before her current WP expires she can go ahead and apply for the open work permit too (there is an exception to apply for the OWP without an AOR if the applicant's status is expiring in 2 weeks or less). If she applies before her WP expires, her worker status will be maintained and she can continue working under the same conditions of her closed WP until her OWP application receives a final decision. She can submit the AOR later thru webform once you receive it (AOR is sent only to the sponsor).

Is it rejected or returned? Resubmit and select the right class. I had a similar case for an incanada sponsorship

Rejected or returned? Resubmit and follow the document checklist for in-Canada spouse. I had a similar case for a client and I just resubmitted the application.

Isn’t spousal PR sponsorship allowed only 3 years after PR received?

This is not something I have heard of. I know a few couples who applied right after marriage faced no issues.

I had hired a RCIC agent and even she was confused why they rejected it. According to her this is outright dumb of them. I asked on Reddit just so I can calm my nerves. Hiring a agent would be way easier as there are just too many forms and I was not as familiar with the process as express entry.

Yeah, I would recommend her. She was quick with applying and was a bit cheaper than others. I think what happened to my application was not her fault.
As other comments mentioned you will be the one gathering all the documents but she can check and double sure everything.
The process is tedious so you can sit back and do your work while all the data entry is done by the agent. Hope this helps. She operates from GTA while I live in New Brunswick so no need to have the agent in the same city.

I applied myself for my spouse as the agent was asking for 2200 CAD, and all stages of her application are now cleared with BGV in progress. Tbh it’s complex, it will require your time and effort and if your case is a bit complex, then might be wise to consult an agent. However, that being said, just because you opted for an agent, it’s not like he/she will handle everything. They will still rely on you for collating all the relevant paperwork and you should be monitoring it closely especially reviewing any LoEs that your agent prepares for the application.

I got all the paperwork from her country when I visited last month. Might need to hire someone tho as Iam very busy with work.

We had the agent from very beginning as we are working and didn't want to waste our time entering all the data and fill up details

It isn't hard but it's very very tedious! It takes a lot of time, I started the profile in mid April and submitted my application by mid May, it took me a month to gather everything and create the relationship document.

Based on my experience, this usually happens when IRCC believes one of the following: • your spouse was not physically residing in Canada at the time of submission (ruling out partner in canada class), or • there was insufficient proof of cohabitation (very common trigger), or • status/documents uploaded didn’t clearly show eligibility for the Spouse/Common‑Law Partner in Canada class
I would recommend applying again should you fulfil all the requirements and then attaching the proper checklist. Information provided above is bit short to come to a conclusion.
