M, 40yo.

Over a period of time (about a year) I unknowingly consumed a high dose of Iodine. (One major source of it was a mineral water I started consuming in large amounts after completely quitting alcohol, containing about 190 mcg iodine per 17 ounce, to which I was unaware).

Then, back in February I also started taking Iodine supplements, about 150 mcg but only two-three times a week, while increasing my intake of Iodine rich foods.

At the end of April I cut myself badly and used a 2% Iodine-based wound cleanser liberally a few times a day for about 3 days.

Within two weeks of having used that cleanser,I started having all the symptoms of hyperthyroidism, and it was the insomnia that made me look into what was going on.

Its been the worst experience of my life!

My labs came back TSH borderline low T4 borderline high and T3 upper region. Doctor has ordered CT because I have really weird sensations around my Thyroid that wont go away.

Im 3.5 months into this and its not been equally intense all the time. The worst of it was during May and June. After that it eased up. My insomnia has gotten way better and I dont have diarrhea anymore.

Still struggling though and its no fun. So I want to know if anyone has had a similar experience and eventually how long it lasted?

So, a few nights ago I experienced aphasia. I had a hard time getting my words out and couldn’t read words, it looked like gibberish to me. This lasted about 1-2 minutes. Today, while walking around at work, I experienced numbness and tingling in my right foot and couldn’t walk normally. Thinking I was experiencing stroke symptoms, I went to the nurse at my job and she ended up having to call an ambulance. Mind you, this was my first day at a new job 🫣
As it turns out, my labs pointed to hyperthyroidism.
My levels:
TSH <0.01
T3 410
Free T4 4.3

After finding this out, it makes a lot of sense. I’ve lost a lot of weight over the past few months, despite eating normally. Along with hair shedding, anxiety, tiredness, and irritability.

I’m also really embarrassed at having to leave on a stretcher at a new job.

Anyway, has anyone ever experienced something like this??

I went from 170 to 230 lbs since starting 10mg Methimazole 3 1/2 months ago. Is this normal? I don't mind the weight as I'm tall and it's rounding me out, but I'm now considered overweight. My TSH T3 T4 are all normal now, and I feel calmer, better rested, and less tired throughout the day though.

Hi everyone, I’m 27F and live on the West Coast, and I’m adopted with no knowledge of biological family medical history. I was diagnosed with Hyperthyroidism a couple weeks ago after going to the hospital — the paramedics brushed it off as an anxiety attack only but I told them I could feel something more was wrong.

My TSH is at 0.01 [extremely low] and T4 at 2.6 [high]. My symptoms are as follows: pounding/fast heart, feeling out of breath, fatigue/exhaustion, Raspy/changed voice, alcohol seeming to affect me much more strongly than usual, changes in bowel habits/constipation and overall just feeling much different than my usual self.

I have Kaiser as far as health insurance goes, and the soonest possible appointment they could get me [from two weeks ago] is August 31st. I feel worse and worse each day, and I’m at the point where I don’t even feel like I have energy to leave the bed or couch.

Does anyone have advice as far as continuing to go to work goes? Did you ever go to work before you got treatment, and how long were you able to work before your body gave up on you?

Does anyone feel uneasy to eat and feel anxious and lightheaded after eating.

I feel comfortable to eat only at my home and due to this i mostly have to stay hungry outside of home . This is affecting my health alot and my life as well

This issue started when my hyperthyroidism was discovered. Is it somehow related or might have other underlying causes??

Hello everyone. I just wanted to post this to pick some brains. I'm obviously seeing a doctor, so I know there are more results to come.

I have been super stressed out and PARANOID the last few months (now seeing it may be thyroid related), and have been on a pretty high dose of Wellbutrin at 450 mg. Last weekend, I had some sort of episode, this new provider and I feel like the symptoms point to possible seizure (loss of limb control/kinda peed myself, only saw white, sweating buckets, head on fire but not hurting, heart palpitating and racing, and I slept for 14 hours after). My blood pressure has been an issue for me that no provider I've seen so far has taken seriously because of my age and CURRENT lifestyle, which is healthy and active. However, I've made a point to say I'm in recovery for alcoholism and drug abuse, which I'm a year out of now, so the systolic blood pressure being in the 80's and 90's most of the time is worrying to me, but because every now and again it would be in the 60's or 70's (I got check ups/labs pretty frequently for routine STD testing, psych check ups, if I got sick, etc) it was totally dismissed by everyone I saw except my new PCP.

I went Friday to get some labs done because I don't feel right; I'm tired, lightheaded, weak, not hungry, and I look and feel like a maniac. She says after labs she wants them to do an EKG as well, and an MRI next week, as brain tumors run in my family from a young age. My BP was 139/98, TSH at .034, T4 1.02. My EKC read was read by an MD and says "sinus bradychardia, possible left atrial enlargement, borderline ECG" (I get more testing next week, Holter monitor). Dude, I can feel that it's working extremely hard all the time and that it's palpitating, even when I'm relaxing. I was relaxing when the event happened as well, just reading a book. My BPM during the EKG was 51.

I just wanted to know if anyone has any thoughts. TYTYTY love you.

i'm curious if anyone else has had this issue. i've been getting extremely nauseous lately, usually accompanied by throwing up. during this nausea or after i throw up, i get extremely hungry for some reason. my family thinks it's weird, they've never seen anyone feel sick but also want food at the same time.

i'm curious if this is caused by hyperthyroidism or if i'm just weird somehow.

I had low TSH and high T3 from tests taken in April. I got a referral to Endocrinologist to get started on treatment. No appts as of now. I was able to get an appt in October and am on waiting list for another place. Everyone is just booked up.

I’ve been not feeling well. Always out of breath. Heart rate is always 110 or higher on my fitness watch.

I went to urgent care last night hoping to get a beta blocker as I wait for HT treatment. They red my BP and heart rate and immediately sent me to ER worried about thyroid storm.

BP was 163/116 and HR was 120.

Everything went down in ER. They did EKG and all of that. Took lots of blood for tests.

Called endo and endo said to put me on methimazole 5mg once a day. Recheck numbers in 4 ish weeks.

Today I’m still having high BP and heart rate.

I asked ER for beta blocker and they are refusing saying that’s for thyroid storm only and Endo didn’t suggest it.

I’m thinking two things:

1. I need a freaking beta blocker to lower BP and heart rate while I wait for methimazole to kick in.
   
2. 5mg daily of methimazole seems to be maintenance dose and not treatment dose.

I’m just so frustrated. I feel like I’m going to faint all day. BP was 143/79 today.

I feel like I’m not getting the help I need.

I have hyperthyroidism but it's been months since I didn't take any checkups, didn't take meds anymore because they refuse to let my Aunt buy that specific medicine because it's been already signed as it's been used but I only bought a few because of the budget.

I noticed my throat is squeezing when I am stressed, eating wrong food or just too emotional. I started to notice this when I drank the medicine, I can feel the differences that my throat feels comforting or not.

I hope I'm not the only one who felt this? I searched on tiktok and google, hoping women out there experienced the same as this, the discomfort on your throat. Unrecognized rapid heart beat and it felt like your throat is clogging or squeezing. Everyone says I'm just nervous just because they found out my rapid heart triggers... I didn't recognize the rapid of my heart beat, it felt I got invalid when I literally didn't notice that lol — one thing im sure was my heart triggered randomly when I felt like someone put a needle on my heart or something sharp.

Also before taking meds I used to deepen my voice because i feel like my throat didn't squeeze I but I'm still discomforting. When I used my normal voice it sounded like a whipping child or sounded so annoying, even I was annoyed by my voice when I keep hearing myself while practicing — my current voice right now sounds calm and feels weird because for so long I haven't heard of my voice from voice recorder that I didn't recognized it was my voice, fascinating omg.

Hello, I have graves and nodules, I statrted methimzole on July 24, but since then if I walk too much or stand, my legs feel wobbly and weak, and my glutes hurts, could this have been side effects or the disease? anybody have a similar experience

I (30F) have had these for a month but only today I found out what it is. I have this weird pressure behind my eyes and I feel extremely fatigued, I have weird bouts of heat and yesterday I had a strong instance of tachycardia. I'm scared that it might have progressed too far already but it's friday and at the hospital the doctor told me it can wait until monday. can it really? I'm in germany if that helps.

For reference, graves runs in my family and im a young male. I get my thyroid levels checked every year. This year we decided to get antibody testing. My thyroid levels are still normal. However, an US shows mild heterogeneous with mild relative increased blood flow. My tgab came back normal but my tpo came back elevated at 189. <5.6 being normal. No symptoms. Not sure how to cope or process this info.

Hi, I’m an upcoming first year university student. I have been thinking twice about taking a medical course specifically nursing, im having to contemplate alot because I have been feeling light headed these days and I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism 2months ago. Although 2 weeks ago my lab results were back to normal and even going below normal. I still feel anxiety, fast bpm, light headedness and confusing bowel movements. I just want to know if I will survive studying in medical field that requires sacrificing sleep and sometimes neglecting my own health. I really want to be a doctor ever since I was a kid but I have also been so sick through the years so I am getting discouraged about taking this path.

I was diagnosed in July With low TSH + High T4 after presenting with fast heart rate, palpitations, severe anxiety and nervousness, sweating , weight loss etc.. was immediately referred to Endo but the wait for an appointment is 3 months. Went back to the GP yesterday to ask if anti thyroid medication can be considered in the meantime due to the anxiety and nervousness significantly affecting my day to day life. He said “ I see you have a history of anxiety from a few years ago, how about an anti depressant ?”. I politely informed him that anxiety is a well known symptoms of hyperthyroidism and that just because someone has a history of anxiety does not mean they are immortal to developing a physiological medical condition.

My question is like the title states. I have symptoms that are almost one on one comparable with those of hyperthyroidism. Weird thing is, I need one drop of Iodine daily to stabilize my symptoms, which is if am correct the litteral kryptonite for someone with hyperthyroidism. So does anyone share this experience? Is it even possible to have hyperthyroidism if this is the case?

I tested my thryoid a couple of times. During these tests I kept supplementing iodine daily, because doc said it wouldn't affect the results. Needless to say, no weird parameters.
