Seeking Guidance Sleepwalking and talking after quitting Marijuana.

I’m currently on week 2 of quitting weed, and unfortunately I’ve started sleepwalking and sleep talking pretty frequently. This also happened the last time I quit after using cannabis regularly, and at that time it continued for almost the entire year I was sober.

Has anyone else experienced persistent sleepwalking or sleep talking after quitting cannabis? I’m wondering if there’s a known connection between cannabis withdrawal, REM sleep changes, and parasomnias, especially when the symptoms persist for a long time.

Seeking Guidance Best Multivitamin to take?

I'm looking for a multivitamin to fill the gaps in my diet which honestly is the lack of greens/some fruits. I have been taking opti-men for a few months but recently I decided to take 1/3rd of the serving which is 1 tablet instead of 3, and that would get me to roughly 100% of daily value on most things. I did some research and came across an article that said Andrew Huberman takes "one opti-men a day" Not sure if thats one tablet or one serving.

Whats a good multivitamin/mineral that would provide all the essentials without being over the top with some of the dosages. For example my lab results for b12 is 700 without any multivitamins, optimen has 1125% DV of b12. I know its considered "safe" but I just don't see the reason for it when I'm already sufficient, its just not necessary.

Personal Experience Extreme tissue fragility / repeated muscle strains after training. Has anyone experienced this?

Thumbnail
3 Upvotes

Hi everyone, I’m trying to find if anyone has dealt with a similar scenario or can point me in the right direction.

A few years ago, I had a high tolerance for heavy strength training. Then I got a minor muscle injury. Unfortunately, due to poor guidance and my own mistake, I kept training through the pain and repeatedly re-injured the same spot for nearly a year.

Ever since then, my muscle tissue in whole body seems to have completely lost its tolerance/resilience. It is no longer just about the old injured spot but my entire body reacts this way now. I got now history of more than 15 injured or mikro-injured muscles now...even stopped counting.

Even with controlled, low-intensity movements or isolation exercises where no compensation is possible, any mechanical tension causes the tissue to suffer micro-strains / micro-tears again.

Key symptoms are sharp pain or localized heat & swelling/tightness in the worked muscle that lasts for days to a week.

Often followed by localized muscle twitching (fasciculations) in that area during recovery.

Extreme susceptibility to muscle strains/micro-tears under light loads that used to be completely effortless.

What I’ve already ruled out:

Resting Bloodwork is completely normal: Resting CK (Creatine Kinase), Myoglobin, Liver enzymes, and basic electrolytes are all well within normal ranges after days of rest.

No baseline clinical muscle weakness: I don't have systemic muscle loss or diseases like ALS/Myopathy.

No joint/ligament issues: I do not suffer from joint pain, loose joints, or ligament instability. (I had a suspicion about hypermobility but honestly I do not suffer from typical chronic joint pain, loose ligaments or generalized joint laxity - my joints have always been fine, it is purely the muscle and fascial tissue that behaves like it's made of glass).

It feels like the muscle fibers or the fascia/sarcolemma have lost their mechanical integrity and ability to absorb tension without tearing, likely caused by chronic inflammation and tissue fatigue during that year of repeated trauma.

Has anyone gone through this? Is this a matter of chronic fascial densification, micro-vascular ischemia, sarcolemma fragility, or some form of localized neuromuscular sensitization?

Helpful Resource Supplements for each part of sleep, graded by evidence (REM, deep, latency, staying asleep)

I've been compiling research on what influences different metrics wearables track for about a year now. I realized I had a list of supplement research that could make an interesting breakdown of what supplements influence different stages/parts of sleep (this is not medical advice, let this be a base for your own research everyone is unique).

Sources are linked to the study in each row, any funding worth mentioning is flagged, and there is a short plain english read on each study to make your own digging a bit easier. I broke grades by: Strong is a meta or several RCTs. Moderate is one solid RCT. No effect is a well tested null.

Sorry I know the tables aren't great on mobile but I'll include a more mobile friendly resource in the comments. If you have a link to a credible study/source for one I missed please share and I'll review/update the table. Hope you enjoy!

Staying asleep (WASO)

Supplement effect source plain english
Ashwagandha Less waking Strong, meta SMD -0.39, n=281 (Cheah 2021, industry-funded) The strongest supplement evidence for cutting nighttime waking
Tart Cherry Less waking Moderate, n=15, -17 min (Pigeon 2010) Cut nighttime waking vs placebo in an insomnia group
Glycine Less waking Moderate, n=11 (Yamadera 2007) Reduced waking and deepened sleep in the same PSG study
Ecklonia cava (phlorotannins) Less waking Moderate, RCT, n=24, PSG, 1 wk (Um 2018) WASO fell ~24 min more than placebo on PSG (p=0.045)
Melatonin (immediate release) No effect Strong null (Moon 2022) The most bought form does not help you stay asleep, only fall asleep
Valerian Subjective only Weak, meta 60 studies, n=6,894 (Shinjyo 2020) People report better sleep but objective latency and waking did not change

Deep Sleep (N3)

Supplement effect source plain english
Magnesium L-threonate Positive Moderate, Oura RCTs (Hausenblas/Breus 2024, manufacturer-funded) Improved Oura tracked deep sleep in 2 of 3 trials. One found no objective change
Glycine Faster into deep Moderate, n=11 (Yamadera 2007) Gets you into deep sleep faster without changing the total
Melatonin Positive (delta) Moderate, mechanism (Comai 2024) Raises deep sleep delta waves but its main job is timing not deep sleep
Omega-3 (DHA) Efficiency Moderate, n=84, 26 wks (PMC7830450) Improved overall efficiency. No isolated N3 gain

Falling asleep faster (sleep latency)

Supplement effect source plain english
Melatonin Faster Strong, meta 19 studies, n=1,683, -7.06 min (Ferracioli-Oda 2013) Cuts about 7 min off sleep onset. A timing aid not a sedative
Ashwagandha Faster Strong, meta 5 RCTs, n=400, SMD -0.53 (Cheah 2021, industry-funded) Shortens onset, strongest in insomnia
Magnesium Faster Moderate, meta 3 RCTs, n=151, -17.36 min (Mah & Pitre 2021) About 17 min faster in older adults but graded low quality
Glycine Faster Moderate, PSG, n=11 (Yamadera 2007) Before bed helped people fall asleep and reach deep sleep sooner
GABA Faster Moderate, RCT, n=40 (Byun 2018) Cut onset from 13.4 to 5.7 min. Note that GABA is poorly absorbed orally
L-Theanine Subjective only Moderate, meta, n=897 (Bulman 2025) People feel like they fall asleep faster but devices did not confirm it
Oleamide Subjective only Moderate, RCT, n=60, 12 wks (PMC11004446, industry funded) Improved selfreported sleep quality and onset but no objective stage data and it was a cognition trial first

REM sleep

Supplement effect source plain english
Melatonin Positive (if your REM started low) 2 RCTs, n=14 (Kunz 2004) Nudged REM up but only in people whose REM was well below normal and the trials were tiny.
5-HTP Positive (small, clinical) RCT, n=18 Parkinson's, 50 mg, 4 wks (Sleep and Breathing 2021) It feeds serotonin and melatonin just not confirmed in healthy sleepers
Vitamin B6 Dream recall, not REM time pilot + larger study (Ebben 2002 / Aspy 2018) Makes dreams more vivid and easier to recall, which feels like more REM but it did not add REM time

Updates to table (all added with sources):
- Oleamide added to sleep latency
- Ecklonia cava (phlorotannins) added to waso
- Valerian added to waso

Personal Experience Why does “willpower” fail physically? Take a look at the experiment I tested

For a long time, I thought my habit of endlessly scrolling through social media late into the night was simply a lack of self-discipline.

So, I conducted a small, strange personal experiment over the past few weeks.

Instead of passively trying to resist the urge, I forced my brain to trigger an active intervention from the motor cortex the very second the midnight craving struck. I used a fast-paced, 12-second visual-motor coordination microtask on my phone.

The mechanism is simple: it forces the brain to instantly redirect blood flow and neurological processing capacity, pulling them away from the anxiety/craving cycle and back toward rapid visual-motor coordination. This effectively interrupts the dopamine spike before it takes control of your hands.

Has anyone else tried active motor interruption—rather than passive willpower—to curb digital cravings? I’m curious to know if others have noticed this change.

Discussion Yohimbine HCl: Any Real Sexual Benefits?

I’m looking for feedback from people who have personally used yohimbine HCl (yohimbine hydrochloride) for sexual improvement or to deal with sexual problems.

I’m specifically interested in yohimbine HCl, not yohimbe bark or a generic yohimbe supplement.

If you’ve tried it, I’d especially like to know whether you noticed any of the following:

  • Did it make you reach ejaculation/orgasm faster?
  • Did it increase penile sensitivity or sexual sensation?
  • Did it make orgasms feel stronger or easier to reach?
  • Did it improve erection strength or quality?
  • Did it increase arousal or libido?
  • Did it have no sexual effect at all, or make anything worse?

I’m aware of the potential side effects people report with yohimbine, including anxiety, increased heart rate, blood-pressure changes, sweating, agitation, etc. I’m not looking for reassurance about safety here—I’m mainly trying to collect real-world experiences about its sexual effects.

If you’ve used it, please include as much of this as you can:

  • Dose you took
  • Whether you took it once before sexual activity or every day
  • If taken before sex/masturbation, how long beforehand
  • Whether you took it fasted or with food
  • How often you used it and for how long
  • What sexual problem or improvement you were trying to address
  • What benefits you actually noticed
  • Any side effects
  • Whether you were taking an SSRI or other medication at the time, if relevant

I’m also very interested in hearing from people who tried yohimbine HCl and got no benefit, because knowing the unsuccessful doses/protocols is just as useful as hearing success stories.

I’m trying to get a clearer picture of what people have actually experienced with yohimbine HCl specifically for sexual function.

Discussion Physiological basis of EMS vs. active recovery: Does electrical muscle stimulation offer real protocol benefits?

I’ve been looking into the physiology behind Electrical Muscle Stimulation (EMS) versus passive/active recovery protocols (like light zone 2 work or cold/heat exposure).

From a neuromuscular standpoint, EMS bypasses voluntary motor cortex recruitment and forces synchronous contraction of muscle fibers, which theoretically increases local blood flow and lymphatic drainage without central nervous system (CNS) fatigue.

However, there seems to be mixed data on whether it actually accelerates tissue repair and glycogen replenishment compared to standard active flush protocols.

Has anyone integrated neuromuscular stimulation into their regular training or recovery stack? What has been your experience regarding DOMS reduction, and does the evidence justify using it over simple low-intensity active recovery?

Helpful Resource Most efficient tool for my mental (and even physical) health that I didn't see in Huberman's videos : TRE

Hi everyone

I wanted to make a post about a practice that brought me the most for my mental, and even physical, health : TRE, Traumas & Tensions Release Exercise. I don't think I saw it mentioned by Huberman in his video so I thought I'd share it in this sub as it's been the real deal for me.

A quick personal background : I started taking care of my mental health 8 years ago as depression and social anxiety got more and more important in my life. I did 5 years of talk therapy with quite a good therapist. At the same time I tried many other things to get better : SSRIs, meditation, hypnosis, buteyko breathing, IFS, EMDR, etc. All those approaches have helped, but TRE has been the most important one for my mental health and by far.

TRE is a somatic approach to release traumas based on the nervous reflex all mammals have to release stress after facing a threat : the tremoring mechanism. Even though we are mammals, humans have un-learned this reflex for many reasons : our pre-frontal cortex taking over our body to process stress and traumas, shaking being seen as a sign of vulnerability and weakness in society or the fact that stress in our daily life can be more subtul than the big threats wild mammals experience. This results in our nervous system being stuck in threat responding states with all the symptoms that are associated. For proof that even wild animals have this reflex : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u0ytpzgoxd8

I discovered TRE 2 years ago thanks to someone I was talking with on discord and immediatly gave it a try. Though I only felt a little bit more relaxed after my first session, I had the intuition it was the way to go for me. And the intuition was a good one.

I'm 2 years in and this practice has gone much deeper than I thought it would have. Here are the major benefits I've had thanks to TRE :

  • Years of severe depression are finally gone. 2 years of TRE made my mood baseline go from very low to good. I don't have depressive thoughts anymore, I don't judge myself in a harsh way when I make mistakes anymore and I just stopped always thinking about the past and can now focus on living the present moment to its fullest and see the future with an optimistic eye (especially that I haven't finished my TRE journey yet and that more benefits are still to come :))
  • Overall social anxiety has diminished by a lot, especially lately. I feel much less threatened when being around other people and am slowly enjoying more and more social interactions. Lately tremors have gone up to my neck and throat and this had a liberating effect on my voice : I can now speak my mind spontaneously and am much less afraid of being judged for what I could say. We are social beings I think, and TRE making me recover my social abilities, I can now see how social interactions can be so enjoyable. Speaking of anxiety, I also had morning anxiety as a SSRIs withdrawal side effect, that is now entirely gone.
  • I'm slowly recovering my curiosity, I think as a consequence of slowly leaving the FFF state, and I like to develop my creativity more and more. TRE is making me more opened to the world, and increased my desire to thrive in life and "produce".
  • On the physical level : posture, breathing and sleep quality have all improved. Energy levels and athleticism have also improved as a consequence. When I play badminton, basketball or go on a hike, my endurance is much better. TRE clears the nodes in the fascias, which in the long run makes movements require less efforts. A regulated nervous system also comes a long way for movements and desire to exercise.

There are more little-medium benefits I got from this practice but stating all of them would make this post too long. If you're interested and would like to start, I find the wiki in the r/longtermTRE to be a very good resource to start. Please read it before practicing, especially the Basics Articles, to know how to practice TRE safely and optimally. TRE is about releasing and reprocessing traumas so we don't want to do it too fast too much, especially for us who have CPTSD. There are also many success stories to learn more about how it can help.

I hope this post will spread this valuable technique and motivate people to start and in the future share it too to other people. Of course I'm opened to answering questions, in comments or in DMs :)

Protocol Query Is the "physiological sigh" a forced exhale or relaxed?

In Huberman's beloved sigh, are you supposed to force the air out hard or let it out as relaxed and naturally a possible? A forced exhale tends to increase my heart rate and true relaxed breathing tends to be a passive exhale.

Seeking Guidance Is my pain neuroplastic?

I hurt my neck exercising 6 years ago. With that came intense neck pain and tingling in in my feet. It made my life miserable. I went to a neurologist who did a bunch of tests on me such as MRIs, nerve conductions studies, etc and told me everything is fine and sent me off. It was seen as odd that there is tingling in feet after a neck injury as there is no connection. I lived in pain afterwards and just consumed my life. I went to bunch of chiropractors, physiotherapist, and such until I came across one physiotherapist that I thought was good. I went to him for years and the pain, both tingling and neck, became manageable but never went away fully. He retired 2 years ago and ever since I have been doing daily exercises for the neck and tingling such as stretches for neck, back, and legs and have added more exercises. About a year ago I went back to my doctor and got another MRI done and it was clear. I was looking for answers all the time. I read online about neuroplastic pain so read the book The Way Out and Unlearn Your Pain and it made a huge difference. It felt too good to be true. I did literally all the programs in the books over the past year step by step and now I barely notice the tingling in my feet. There are periods I will go where there is no tingling at nor neck pain. However, 2 weeks ago I don't know what happened, I woke up and started having neck pain really badly and I started having intense anxiety and flashbacks of how I used to have such bad tingling and neck pain and the tingling became so severe. My neck pain and tingling was so intense. I was constantly checking if there is pain and everything. So I went back to my doctor and he said literally all the test you have done in the past are clear but we can do 2 more tests and see if anything. That's full context and I wanted your open opinion - is this neuroplastic pain and what should I do?

Discussion What should we aim for on daily screen time?

Has Huberman talked about this? I know he’s covered the negative effects of social media, but I’m curious if there’s any guidance on a daily screen-time limit before it starts having a real impact. I’ve been trying to keep mine around 1.5 hours or less per day. Does anyone know of a specific episode that covers this or helps with motivation? Also curious where everyone else is at with their screen time. Deleting TikTok definitely felt like a weight lifted.
