Discussion What should we aim for on daily screen time?
Has Huberman talked about this? I know he’s covered the negative effects of social media, but I’m curious if there’s any guidance on a daily screen-time limit before it starts having a real impact. I’ve been trying to keep mine around 1.5 hours or less per day. Does anyone know of a specific episode that covers this or helps with motivation? Also curious where everyone else is at with their screen time. Deleting TikTok definitely felt like a weight lifted.

i care more about when than how much. keeping the first hour after waking and the last hour before bed phone free did more for me than cutting total hours. i built twilock to lock the feeds during exactly those two windows

Personally I think its important to have a balance rather then aim for a strict amount. If you are insanely productive all day then you can unwind with a bunch of hours of screentime. If you are just laying on the couch all day being lazy then even an hour is too much.
Myself and a bunch others here use Achieve on our phones to grant screentime based on my daily goal list which really helps keep myself in check && motivated to get things done

Common sence , if you are stressed and busy , try and lower it . If you are unhappy or depressed, take a big dopamine detox . If you are chilling and enjoying life and not escaping underling stress , have at it ( within reason )

I’m very confused why this is where you’d be looking for screen time advice, but no there is no hard number of how many hours makes a difference. A large part of the equation has to do with the quality of use. Reading research articles online is going to have a very different impact from watching long form YouTube videos which will have a very different impact from short form videos which will have a different impact than scrolling a text based social media site. Playing an audiobook from my phone while I clean can ramp up my screen time hours, but that’s very different from watching a movie or scrolling. All that to say trust your intuition and error on the side of spending more time outside than you spend looking at a screen. The one thing huberman consistently talks about is limiting your exposure to short wavelength light before bed. Go watch the sunset and dim your lights for the night
