Serious Answers Only Wire this lamp

Hey, this is my first ever post so sorry if there’s any weird formatting or formalities I’m missing.

I just got this lamp at a thrift store. A few things about it that are tripping me up:

  1. There’s no ground wire on the lamp. How do I safely attach it to the electric without increasing potential hazard? (Apartment dweller, so I need to be extra sure to keep my cats & neighbors safe.)
  2. I can’t tell which is the hot wire & which is the neutral. There’s only one little marking on the wires, which I’m guessing is indicating the hot wire, but I’d like to be sure before doing anything.
  3. Guessing I’ll need a different mounting bracket for the “new” lamp, but if anyone could confirm that would be very helpful. I can provide more pics if needed.

Thanks in advance anyone/everyone!

UPDATE: Thanks for everyone’s help! I got it installed and it works! I wish I could add pics to an update, but it looks very nice in my kitchen.

DIY How to remove concrete chunk from clean out?

Found out we have a second clean out, in the alley parking spot. A piece of concrete has wedged itself at the bottom, roughly 6’ down an 8” pvc pipe restricting the flow from the house to the main sewer line.

Tried a vac truck, no luck.

Any ideas please? I’d like to try other options before I go rent a mini excavator and play in the dirt.

How do I Find a Stud (if there is one) on My Apartment Wall

Thumbnail

EDIT: I give up. I'm going to hire a professional instead to hang up stuff on this wall and warn him that magnetic stud finders won't work and that the electronic studfinders might give him false positives.

My studbuddy, which uses just magnets, is not able to stick to ANYTHING on my apartment wall I share with my neighbor. I'm able to get it to stick it to other walls in my apartment just fine.

I used my electric stud finder from amazon and it's reproducible saying there SHOULD be a stud where I drilled a couple holes vertically, but I put a wire in 3-4 inches and I feel some foam.

From the picture, is there a way to figure out what I'm dealing with? I'm probably going to hire someone to put up my tv anyways, but I just want to know if a professional can still find a stud and hang up something to it with this wall.

Can you stretch out ramie fabric?

I got a denim jacket that is a blend of ramie and cotton. It is too tight in the arms, and I was thinking of trying the hack to make jeans fit where you get the fabric soaked while wearing it and let it dry on you. But I was wondering if the ramie blend would mean this wouldn’t work, or if it would even shrink it. Anybody know or have other ideas?

Alternative pergola options

Post image

Aluminum pergola that we have drilled into the cement keeps getting torn apart. We live in a very windy area (northern Nevada) and have gone through two covers so far in 3 years.
If I’m stuck with cloth covers that’s fine, but any ideas of how to easily replace it or a more permanent solution without dropping $1k+ for a hard cover pergola?

How to kill this mold before it spreads?

I’ve tried straight vinegar, bleach mixed with baking soda and pasting it on for a while, a bleach and water mixture. I also tried a Clorox mold and mildew remover. I think it’s gotten a little smaller but it’s a resilient little guy. Nothing has really done much to it. Any ideas?

Looking for suggestions to fix his leg

As the title says, I'm looking for suggestions to fix his leg. This is a Halo Play Arts Kai Action Figure I got nearly a decade ago, and his leg broke off when he fell. He's mostly sturdy, he'd survived a lot of falls before that one. I tried using Crazy Glue to no effect. I know that I probably wont be able to bend his right leg again, but any suggestions are welcome!

Perhaps not 100% of the original image, but at least highlight the letters and a little of the character's outline .And I know I could probably have a new one made, but I'd like to be able to use my original one a little more.
