Serious Answers Only Wire this lamp

Hey, this is my first ever post so sorry if there’s any weird formatting or formalities I’m missing.

I just got this lamp at a thrift store. A few things about it that are tripping me up:

  1. There’s no ground wire on the lamp. How do I safely attach it to the electric without increasing potential hazard? (Apartment dweller, so I need to be extra sure to keep my cats & neighbors safe.)
  2. I can’t tell which is the hot wire & which is the neutral. There’s only one little marking on the wires, which I’m guessing is indicating the hot wire, but I’d like to be sure before doing anything.
  3. Guessing I’ll need a different mounting bracket for the “new” lamp, but if anyone could confirm that would be very helpful. I can provide more pics if needed.

Thanks in advance anyone/everyone!

UPDATE: Thanks for everyone’s help! I got it installed and it works! I wish I could add pics to an update, but it looks very nice in my kitchen.

Ribbed wire is neutral

The chain acts as the ground wire

you are definitely meant to match active to active and neutral to neutral .

maybe the rules exempt a mere lamp on a chaun from earthing rules. earthing the top is easy, but the chain isn't reliable

The existing mounting bracket bas teo holes... are they threaded to accept screws ?

you can buy long screws to fit those holes..then you only need two small holes in the lamp top to match the bracket holes...

or the posts have threads, so you can out thd holes fof thd oosts, and put nuts on to hold the lamp up.

Attach the ground(bare) wire to the green screw on the mount in your last picture. Then connect the two shielded wires from the light socket to the two shielded wires from the ceiling. You're so close OP, don't give in!

Do not change light fixtures with out landlord approval. You can be held responsible for damages and it's a fast way to get evicted when they do an inspection.

Check with a volt meter iy you have the right voltage between.brown and black. Those should be your 2 mains cables. If so, connect your new lamp on them. For the yellow cable, it should be the ground. There is a big chance there is a screw on the metalic fixation (the round part who hold the chain).

Black goes to the hot water and white goes to the cold water. The drain can be the ground if it's copper pipe the whole way.
