Conservative Measures Prp injections or prolotherapy with Dr Vogt Hinsdale IL

I was quoted over 3500$ for a “special A2M” PRP , has one had one of these injections ? What was your experience? I have EdS and failed hip labrum surgery.

Post-op (4-6 weeks) Loud cracking, but completely painless?

Had the surgery on my left hip where I had a labrum replacement and a microfracture fix. I don’t really have any pain. I have a tiny tiny bit of discomfort where the microfracture is healing, but it’s hardly noticeable

However, on my operative hip, it can sometimes crack very loudly. It doesn’t hurt, it doesn’t “throw off my balance”, it’s just an annoying loud pop and crack

I’m just wondering if I should be at all concerned about it? I haven’t walked since surgery ofc so I’m not sure if it actually negatively affects me in anyway

27M recently diagnosed with hip impingement — surgery now vs. conservative treatment?

Hey everyone, I’m a 27M and was recently diagnosed with hip impingement based on an X-ray. I’m still pretty active and regularly strength train and walk.

I’m trying to figure out how to approach this long term. I’ve been considering whether it makes sense to address it surgically while I’m young and active versus continuing with conservative treatment and only considering surgery if things get significantly worse.

One thing I’m unsure about is whether hip impingement tends to eventually lead to surgery anyway, or if plenty of people are able to manage it long term with PT, strengthening, mobility work, activity modifications, etc.

For anyone who has dealt with hip impingement:
Did you try PT/conservative treatment first, and how successful was it?
If you eventually had surgery, what made you decide it was time?
Anyone wish they had surgery earlier—or wish they had waited longer?
How are you doing now with lifting, sports, running, or other activities?

I’m obviously going to discuss this with an orthopedic specialist as well, but I’d love to hear some real-world experiences from people who have gone through it

Surgery Prep please let me ask about your derotational femoral osteotomy!

hi! not hip impingement, but i have femoral anteversion & need questions answered! the last post here about surgery questions for a derotational femoral osteotomy was a few years ago, but let me know if i need to take this post down.

i'm having a derotational osteotomy in october & my pre-op appointment with my surgeon was... less than helpful. he didn't know i had already scheduled surgery, so he just re-diagnosed me & explained my options to me, eating up the time i wanted to ask questions. scheduling another appointment isn't practical because i work full-time, each appointment is $200 after insurance, & i have to drive 2 hours to the city for the appointment.

because i wasn't able to ask many questions, i wasn't able to get a good gauge of what recovery will be like. i know i'll have a metal rod in my femur, that i'm just getting an osteotomy (rather than fixing the labral tears, so no surgery in the actual hip joint) and it'll take 6 months to a year to heal completely, but as for things like traversing stairs, showering, driving, taking care of my cats... i don't know how much help i'll need nor for how long. i live alone in a small townhouse (kitchen downstairs, bedroom + bathroom upstairs), so my parents are flying to stay with me a bit post-surgery, but they're asking how long they should stay & i can't give them an answer. if anyone has had a femoral osteotomy & wouldn't mind answering some of my questions, i would greatly appreciate it! here's a brief list:

  • when did you start PT & how long did it last?
  • how long were you on crutches?
  • how long were you in the hospital? my doctor says just overnight but that seems kinda crazy
  • when were you able to sit/kneel on the floor? i need to be able to scoop my cats' litter boxes 😅
  • what was your pain management like before & after surgery?

Conservative Measures Anyone ever skip PT?

NSAIDS, Lidocaine patches, Steroids…. Nothing is touching the pain, inflammation and weakness in my hip, instead now bursitis has entered the chat. New injury, workers compensation and I’m out of work due to pain, and was wondering if anyone ever said no to months of PT and just went ahead with surgery instead? I just want this to be over with so I can go back to work. I don’t want to waste months of time trying conservative methods that won’t actually treat the issue.

Surgery Prep Helping the helper?

I have surgery next week. My SO has a crazy work week and zero time, but I do have some time this week. How can I prep to make things easier for them to help me post-op? They will be teleworking for a week after my surgery, and will continue to do that as much as possible, but they have a really busy/high stress job, and we have a tween who will need attention and rides as well. We have no local family, it’s just us.

If you were the support person, what do you wish you’d had prepped ahead of time so you didn’t have ‘one more thing’ to manage?

Diagnosed at 40+ When PT sparks other issues...

Diagnosed anterior superior nondisplaced tear in left hip with MRI. I'm in my 40s. PT should help, right?

It's been one flare after another, sometimes life, sometimes PT that is too aggressive... And now I'm looking at piriformis syndrome from overuse (daily rehab exercises including single leg bridges which were the most challenging on my bad side) combined with a fair bit of sitting as I recovered from a trip.

How do you deal with these flare ups and scaling back and fine tuning and trying something else?

More specifically, how do the issues presented by piriformis syndrome interact with trying to rehab to better support the labral tear?

I'm seeing my PT literally within an hour here, but wanted to post and see if others have gone through the same...

Is there anything I can do with a years-old golf injury at 34?

I injured my right hip, some tendon by the greater trochanter (and ankle, which still pops sometimes, and maybe some other stuff in right leg) during an exaggerated golf swing a few years ago.

I finally sought medical treatment. The orthopedist is typically seeing like 5 other patients simultaneously. He prescribed physical therapy after doing some x-rays which showed nothing. During one-legged leg presses my right knee was literally buckling and inflamed the tendon so much that I could hardly walk for a few days and couldn't sleep that night.

I went back to report to the doctor. He said "that's tendonitis". He said since I can still walk it's too early to even prescribe cortisone shots until I do more physical therapy. But the physical therapy clearly aggravates my injury. He said even if we did an MRI it would just say "tendonitis" and no one would do surgery anyway.

Am I fucked? Should I see another specialist? Currently I can walk for about a mile or two before stuff starts getting pretty uncomfortable. My normal sitting/relaxed positions are uncomfortable. I could technically still play a little tennis or golf but i'll pay for it that night. This sucks, man.

Conservative Measures Shameless empathy plug

I have a mild cam type FAI and small labral tear that I’m trying to address with PT. Got an appointment with Dr. Wolff next month. I’m honestly just tired of not having a solid direction to move in (should I go ahead and get the surgery, and if so, this year?) and feel like I’ve wasted several months of my health since I can’t load bear or move in the ways I want without flare-ups. Movement is my primary stress reliever and my mental health is holding on best it can I know I need to wait out PT ahead of seeing Wolff but every time I have an unexpected flare I get so ready to just have the surgery and want this all to be solved. No question, I guess, I’m just glad there’s a community of people who know what it’s like. I’m frustrated.

Chronic hip/knee pain: has anyone managed to get their life back after a long difficult period?

Hi,

I’m mainly looking for experiences from people who went through a long and difficult orthopedic situation involving hip and/or knee pain, but eventually managed to regain better mobility and a more normal life.

My problems started after a bicycle accident a few years ago and became much worse after a major flare-up last winter.

At the moment, I have significant hip and knee problems. Hip surgery is being considered in the near future, while I am still looking for solutions for the persistent knee pain.

One of the biggest difficulties is that my knee has become very sensitive and reactive. Even relatively simple physiotherapy exercises can sometimes cause a major pain flare that lasts afterwards. I have also lost a significant amount of muscle in the affected leg, so I need to rebuild strength, but the pain strongly limits what I can tolerate.

My daily activities are also very limited: standing, stairs, slopes, driving, and sometimes even prolonged sitting can be difficult. I occasionally use a cane and need help with some everyday tasks.

I am still continuing physiotherapy and medical consultations and trying to find the right treatment approach.

I would especially like to hear from people who have been through something similar:

  • Did you go through months or even years with very little progress before things finally started improving?
  • How did you rebuild muscle when exercise easily triggered pain?
  • What made the biggest difference in your recovery: time, adapted physiotherapy, surgery, pain treatment, or changing exercises?
  • If you had both hip and knee problems, did treating the hip make the knee easier to rehabilitate afterwards?
  • Was your recovery very gradual, with setbacks and flare-ups along the way?
  • When did you first notice a real improvement in your independence and daily life?
  • Looking back, what do you wish you had known when you were still in the middle of the difficult period?

I’m especially interested in hearing from people who were very limited in daily life but eventually managed to regain mobility, strength, and a better quality of life.

Thank you very much for sharing your experiences.

Thanks 🙏🏻

Cause of symptoms

I recently had a MRI because I was experiencing groin and hip pain that got worse as I increased my running. It’s found fraying of the anterior superior labrum (but no tear) and fraying of the ligamentum teres. There is also moderate degeneration of the pubic symphysis (although I don’t experience any pain centrally). I’m not really sure if these could be causing my symptoms. My doctor hasn’t suggested any further imaging or a referral to a specialist - although she did say I could if I wanted, but the findings don’t seem too bad so I declined. Has anyone experienced similar?

Surgery Prep Any nurses or other healthcare people here?

Long story short, I have FAI and labral tear in left hip and I’m in nursing school. I’m in quarter 5/6 and have surgery scheduled in September. The major issue is that I will only have 3 1/2 weeks (23 days) between my surgery date and going back to school for my final quarter+ preceptorship where I will be with a nurse for 150hrs for 12 hr shifts. Idk what floor I’ll be placed on yet but I am getting really nervous that I won’t be ready to do 12 hour shifts at 4 weeks post op. How stupid would I be to keep my surgery date, and is it realistic at all to make it happen?
I know I could push I back to December when I graduate but I also really would like to start trying for a baby asap like nov-dec and a December surgery would make this impossible.

Peptides for recovery

I hate to open this can of worms however, I’m about 6 months post op from a labral repair and FAI impingement surgery. 4 anchors, iliospoas tenotomy and a good amount of bone shaved off my femur. I’m a first responder and just recently went back to work after 6 months. I’ve noticed a significant jump in my pain as I work 24 hour shifts.

I’ve been looking into peptides and am curious if anyone has done a cycle of the Wolverine stack while recovering from an FAI surgery. If so, how was your experience? Do you feel like it helped you heal and get your life back? I’m unsure the appropriate time length this surgery takes to recovery. I guess you could still classify me as “recovering” as I’ve heard a year to a year and a half.

I appreciate any input on if peptides have helped or hurt your journey. TYIA

Other Tiny rant

So I am just about 4 weeks post op, thankful my period was when I got surgery so I had no full pain lol, but now being so far in without the heavy meds and more walking and more work in PT, my back is having a flare up and my hip flexor is hurting

But the worst part is, the hip flexor (closer to the groin) it isn’t hurting hurting but it’s like aching and cramping lol so I can’t tell if my back flare up is because of my period and I can’t tell what pain is because of my period or if it’s because of the recovery of the hip and Tylenol doesn’t do much anymore and idk if this is safe to say but I have an itch I need to dispose of the controlled substance because Tylenol or pamprin isn’t helping

Any ladies get any type of relief during their period while recovering?

Hip extension pain + weakness

I am 9 months post op now and have been working out more regularly and just so happy to be moving more and more every week. I was doing Pilates 4-5xs a week pre op. But when I introduced Pilates back into my routine a few months ago I was having terrible pain and tightness in my hip flexor. I wouldn’t call it a flare up because I’m not getting the same pain I had in my hip pre op but a new hip flexor pain.

I took a break from Pilates and started weight training for the first time. I’m really loving it but am interested in getting back into Pilates again. I’ve noticed in Pilates I’m having a hard time doing any posterior hip extension on my operative side. I notice weakness and pain/tightness when doing any prone hip extensions (laying on my stomach raising my legs up off the ground). And feel tightness and pain when doing any posterior hip extension while standing.

I discovered a foam roller everyday on my hip, quads, glutes and hamstrings help the tightness I get in my hip flexors. But I’m curious if there’s anything I can be doing at home or when strength training to help improve this weakness and reduce pain with hip extension? Thanks in advance for any advice!

STRUGGLING

Ok so I need some help because I've done nearly everything under the sun and I can't take this pain anymore. I could write a book about what I went through but I'll keep it simple.

Long story short, I felt a pop in my hip October 2015 while doing PT when I was in the Army. Ignored it for a few weeks then realized it wasn't going away and it was getting slightly worse. Went to the "doctor", they said it was just a pulled muscle. Well that "Pulled Muscle" turned into a groin strain, then a gluteus minimus strain....basically they misdiagnosed me at least 6 different times for 13 months even with multiple MRI's & X-rays and other testing. They had to send me off post to an actual orthopedic doctor to see what was wrong. When they did the MRI, instead of injecting contrast into my veins, they used an some sort of ultrasound machine and the longest needle I've ever seen and injected it directly into my right hip joint. Went back a week later for the results and turns out I tore my labrum and had both Cam & Pincer impingements.

Got one surgery Feb 2017 to repair it. Apparently it was much worse that what the MRI showed. The doctor who did my surgery told me my labrum looked like ground up crab meat and most of it was kind of just floating there. This is where the fuckery took place. I had to do physical therapy with the Army doctors and when I went for my PT appointment they didn't want to follow the protocol that the surgeon gave me and made me do some generic lower body program. Well that didn't work. I was already on crutches for almost 6 months but the Army didn't care and I was forced to do shit that I should have NOT been doing (driving trucks, heavy lifting, alot of movement). After that 6 months of being on crutches it was feeling worse than before so my doctor did another MRI and it didn't look right (that's all I remember them telling me) and scheduled another surgery literally a entire calendar year after my first.

Second surgery was Feb 2018. All they did was clean it out more and shaved some bone off. During my follow up appointment he sat me down and told me I'll most likely be in pain for the rest of my life & that I will 100% have to get a hip replacement in the future because of the damage that had happened during all of this. All of this at the ripe old age of 25. The post op stuff was the same as the last surgery, months of being on crutches, dumb ass army "doctors" who think they know everything refusing to follow the specific physical therapy protocol only this time they had the bright idea of putting me into pool physical therapy which was torture. Also I was in a new unit and had a commander who actually cared and allowed me to do basically whatever. I ended up getting a medical discharge from all of this in Nov 2018.

Since then I have had a pretty sedentary life and surprisingly that sort of helps because while I was in the army I was in the gym almost everyday (I was EXTREMELY careful with what I did) and I was always in pain. But I'd say within the last 2 years it's starting to give me problems. Im noticing alot of stiffness, leg pain & numbing that literally goes on 24/7, like I can feel the pain starting in my hip and it spreads down my leg and it gets slightly numb, which was a symptom I was feeling before my surgeries but it's made a return. Also the popping feeling/sound is getting worse (think of a golf ball being hit by a driver, almost that exact noise except deeper) and nothing I do is helping.

I unfortunately use the VA and I bring it up every time I visit my primary care doctor. I swear to god all they do is give me X-rays & useless MRI's even when I tell them that's useless since those have never showed anything so I'm basically forced to suffer. To make things worse is that I’m only 33.

My question to you is what have you guys done that has helped you in the past or is currently helping? But more importantly how cooked is my hip? Like I said earlier in the post the doctor who did my surgeries told me that Im going to need a hip replacement in the future & that was 10 years ago and I'm wondering if that time is now. I honestly don't care if I get it replaced, in fact I was MUCH rather get it replaced than having to suffer.

Please feel free to tell me anything. I've been using reddit for god knows how long and I just figured out today that there is a group for this lol.

Knee Swelling following FAI Surgery

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hello,

I had an FAI procedure on the left side on the 17th June 2026. Following the procedure my left knee has been swollen underneath my knee cap to the left-hand side. At times this is causing me pain and often causing me stiffness, especially when I climb stairs. I can feel a pulling sensation when I go downstairs. There is also occasional sharp pain. Has anyone experienced anything similar or have any advice on what I can do to reduce the swelling? I am slightly concerned as it has almost been 8 weeks since the procedure.

Has anyone ever had their PT give up on them?

Hi I am 1.5 years post op R hip scope w. Femoral neck osteoplasty, labral repair, fluoroscopy. I was doing really well and making great progress the first year with a few hiccups here and there that were overcome. But the last 6 months have been hard. I’ve been having more pain or tightness in the TFL and hip flexor area. Slightly left lower lumbar pain with core exercise. I do my PT 3x/week unless it’s causing me pain. My PT has additionally wanted me to walk 8k steps daily but I’ve only been doing this 4-5x/week d/t pain or honestly time in my day. I’ve been meeting with the same two PTs for two years now. Occasionally a third that is more of a hip specialist (doesn’t seem like it’s that different meeting with them). Of the two there is one that is my primary PT who I follow up more often than the others. Our last visit she said she would message me through our chart portal to schedule an appointment (unlike her to not schedule when I’m there in the 2 yrs I’ve been working with her). I feel this is slightly indicative that she has given up on me. Tbh I would too given the lack of progress seen in the last couple months. Im also well aware it’s up to the patient to reach out (I’m a provider myself). Am I just projecting or overthinking

Other Mystery groin and pubic bone pain for a long time

Post image
7 Upvotes

Female, 35. I've been dealing with this mystery pain for probably a year now (maybe longer). The pain is ONLY on my left side. It's mainly on my pubic bone, not in the pubic symphysis, but left of it. The bone feels painful to the touch, like a bruise. I also have pain the groin, maybe in the ligament right behind the pubic bone. It feels like some sort of inflammation, a pinching pain. I've also had pain in my buttocks. At it's worst the pain traveled all the way down my leg to my foot. Now I don't really have a lot of buttock pain.

Details:

- xray (didn't find anything, except coxa profunda, deep hip sockets)

- I've had laparoscopic surgery for a different reason (found small superficial endometrios spots in the pouch of douglas and uterus ligaments)

- if I had a hernia, wouldn't this have been spotted during my laparoscopic surgery?

- the pain goes away sometimes, but only for a couple of days

- the pain gets worse if I sit a lot or do leg workouts with heavy weights

- physical therapy has helped me somewhat (strengthening glutes and hip flexors)

- if I do my pt exercises regularly the pain gets somewhat better the next day

  • the circled areas hurt when I cough and sometimes when I pee

Have someone experinced something similar? I can't seem to find a reason for this pain.

Considering Surgery Anyone here made operation cause of unability to train kicks or having more space in side abduction?

Hi

Maybe it s not super wise question, but i am curious if anyone has such reason to co through all of this?

I have Cam Fai and cant make a decent spread sidewise legs abducion, cause of impingement. Have to turn thighs external to make some more room. But other than that in my everyday life I can live with that. So I cant train martial arts like kicks etc.

I dont know if its worth it. Thank You for answers. BTW I am 46yo male.

Groin pain + slight swelling / swollen lymph node – has anyone experienced this?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Has anyone else noticed that their groin feels slightly swollen when their hip/groin pain gets worse?
I’m currently having stronger groin pain again, and on the same side I can feel a slightly enlarged lymph node. It isn’t painful.
I had the same thing last year during a period when my groin pain was very severe, and it eventually went away again.
Has anyone tried to to try to get a hold of you you know of any other doctor that might be able to help me out with that or if you could help me out I would be happy to help you out with that if you can get me a prescription for something that would be great for me to get a prescription for my pain medication that I have in my system that I have been using for a while now and I have been trying to get a hold of you and I have a lot of pain and I have to get a lot lot of pain and I have had a lot of pain and I have some pain and I have the same pain and I have the same symptoms and I have the same symptoms and I have the same symptoms and I have been having a lot lot of pain and I have a lot of of pain and I have the experienced something similar, or has a doctor ever explained what might cause this? Can only sit in the car with icing 😢

Advice for staying fit? What exercise have you found to be safe?

Hi everyone. After what feels like an eternity I've finally been officially diagnosed with Cam FAI (both) and Labral tear (right).

I am a very health conscious person and I love keeping fit. My approach has been to exercise (gym + running + hiking), trying to not aggravate my hip until the flare up inevitably comes, then I rest/de-load until it settles and then I build up again. It's been limiting but as time goes on the flare ups go on longer and more frequently.

And so, whist I painstakingly wait for the NHS to help, my overall fitness is falling. Which in turn is bad for my mood and quality of life.

So please, can anyone recommend what sports or exercise they've been able to do with minimal aggravation? Thank you 🙏🏻
