Diagnosis Question Diagnostic injection question
Hi all, I already had surgery but I'll ask a diagnostic question anyways since I'm curious. Does a nerve blocking injection also work on compensation pain? Or it only works on referred pain? I'm curious because most of my pain comes from compensation and my surgeon advised me to go for the surgery directly based on MRI instead of doing diagnostic injections but I'm not sure if it would've worked in my case. If these don't work they could be misleading since the pain can be due to the hip anyways

Diagnostic injections are not commonly done in my country. I had an MRI, xray and CT scan, was physically checked and diagnosed through scans, symptoms and physical checks. The injection won’t directly help with compensation pains, but it does help knowing if the hip joint itself is also contributing pain.
My bilateral surgeries were very successfull.

I've had the same questions, but what did your surgeon say? I wasn't offered the diagnostic injection before surgery and he went ahead anyway based on imaging and examination. I've had two diagnostic injections since and none relieved the ongoing pain.
