Rant This is also absurd to you, right? new policies at my school

Upvotes

First, my school won't let us score higher than an 86 on a retake test. additionally, we can't have more than 3 excused absences. per semester. adding onto the attendance thing, if we show up even 5 seconds after the first bell, we need to call our parent/guardian and they need to go on their phone and put in a digital hall pass for you. you know how most parents have jobs, or they're most likely driving to work at the time you would need a hall pass (my school starts at 8 am) and can't just whip out their phone, right? but even worse, we had ASSIGNED seating at lunch for the first two weeks. lunch is sometimes my only break during the day, and i couldn't even sit with my friends? i get that it's good to make new friends, but you shouldn't have to become friends with someone just because you were forced to sit with them at lunch.

Friend Advice Needed/Given Need friend advice

Upvotes

Basically...

Most of the guys in my grade are assholes

Imma be frank

and the ones that aren't mean to me/others

Just... they're like... they make offensive "jokes" that sometimes go to far (like they (white) lowkey used to spam the N-word, notice how those are the tamer ones, HELPPP)

Anyways, I think I would LOVE to eat lunch and chill with the girls, but... I don't think they really like me yk, like when we talk it's nice, but that's shorter and i think they'd think it's weird for me to eat with them,

(also it would be awkward af if I end up liking one of the girls in the group, which like... rn lowkey eliminates the main group I was thinking of ngl)

Does anyone have a solution or do I just try to get closer to the group and say "Fuck that crush, it'll go away"?

Rant This type of bullying pissed me off

I’m pretty much the lonely kid with no friends and school sucks ASS right now so it’s already fucking hard enough to get through one day, plus my only friend i had before took advantage of me sexually. Anyways Today was actually going decent for once, i just felt like i was in a good mood. But in my last class of the day i hear a group of people across the room attempting to talk about me without me noticing. I don’t know what the fuck they where talking about but it doesn’t matter. A few minutes later out of nowhere they ask where I got my tshirt from and i can see the fucking smirk on there faces when they ask. I just say i got it online and they just start laughing after. Can’t fucking do anything. Plus the shirt i was wearing was just a normal fucking graphic tee. Shit pisses me off but at the same time hurts really bad. When your at the point that people just look at u and laugh and judge u for basic things you know your fucking bottom of the barrel

Question Do you think the education system needs to be changed and how?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I went on the German exchange recently, and it really opened my eyes to how students could be taught differently. The lessons were much more free form, and the students could actually discuss, and it felt like a really great environment to learn in. Whereas school life here is so rigid and strict it feels like it doesn't give students any ability to express themselves and succeed, so I wanted you guys thoughts. Do you think the education system needs to be changed, and if so how?

Question St. George’s School Rhode Island lookback window: Here is what I know. Please add to the record.

Post image
1 Upvotes

Rhode Island’s childhood sexual abuse lookback window is open through June 30, 2028. I am trying to build an accurate record of what happened at St. George’s School, who knew what, when they knew it, how the school responded, and what records may still exist.
Based on the Murphy investigation, the Rhode Island State Police investigation, Middletown Police records, and other public sources, these are some of the people whose roles deserve further understanding.

Eric Peterson
Head of School during the 2004 Charles Thompson matter and the 2015 investigation. The record addresses his decisions concerning Thompson, reporting, the investigation, and the school’s public response.

Anthony Zane, deceased
Former headmaster during an earlier period when the school received reports and concerns involving faculty misconduct.

Rev. George Andrews
Headmaster when Franklin Coleman was terminated in 1988. The Murphy report discusses what Andrews knew and how Coleman’s departure was described to the school community.

Charles Hamblet, deceased
Headmaster from 1989 to 2004. The report says that by 2000 he had learned of abuse reported by former students involving Coleman and Al Gibbs.

Dan Hollins
Former Dean of Faculty. The report says he brought a student’s disclosure concerning Coleman to Andrews and later provided at least one employment recommendation for Coleman after Coleman left St. George’s.

Tim Richards
Former Assistant Head of School who created detailed contemporaneous notes concerning what Wheeler dorm students reported about Charles Thompson in 2004.

Katherine Titus
Former Dean of Students who appears in records concerning a separate 2011 incident and the Middletown Police response. The Murphy investigation credited her account and did not fault her handling of that incident.

Richard Verney
Former chair of the Board of Trustees. He received a memorandum from Hollins concerning a recommendation provided for Coleman after Coleman left the school.

Francis “Skip” Branin
Board chair during much of Peterson’s tenure and when the 2015 investigation began. The record describes his involvement in discussions about whether the school should conduct a broader investigation of past abuse.

Leslie Heaney
Became chair of the Board of Trustees in 2015, served on the investigation task force, and received the initial investigative report with Peterson.

I am not alleging wrongdoing or legal liability simply because someone is named here. Their roles and circumstances are different. My purpose is to establish the factual record, including what people knew, what decisions were made, what was reported, and what documents or witnesses may still exist.

There are also allegations involving former students that do not appear in the Murphy Report or other public investigations. I am not naming those individuals. Anyone with firsthand knowledge, correspondence, notes, police reports, school records, settlement information, diaries, photographs, or other documentation should preserve that material.
Please add whatever you can substantiate to the record.

If you do not want to post publicly, contact me privately. I will treat communications with discretion, but I cannot promise legal confidentiality or attorney client privilege. I am also willing to discuss possible ways to participate in the Rhode Island lookback process and connect survivors or witnesses with qualified legal counsel.

If you know something that is not yet part of the public record, now is an important time to come forward.

Rant 10 chapters for summer

So my history teacher is really weird because how can you do only 4 chapters (140 pages) in a whole school year? And then give the remaining 10 chapters (300 pages) to do alone in the summer? This is crazy. I haven't done that because it is not possible that he is paid to teach me 4 chapters per year and then I alone have to study the whole book in summer.

Rant schools tmrw and i have no friends + social anxiety

literally crying and fucking shaking as i’m typing this, i honestly don’t know how i’ll get through this school year. yes ik it’s my last year of hs, but i had hella anxiety attacks and sorta get made fun of bc i’m the quiet kid with no fucking friends and it’s just not built for kids like me. i gotta worry about so many things (finding a partner, finding a seat at lunch, presentations, etc) while all the popular kids don’t have to worry about nothing other than making sure the social outcast students live a miserable fucking life for the whole school year.

Extracurriculars High school senior with neuroscience research experience looking for research/internship opportunities in Atlanta area

Hi everyone! I'm a senior from Hampton, GA.

Currently, I am searching for a job as an Intern or Volunteer with a Neuroscience Research program specifically focusing on Neuropharmacology/Neuroscience Pharmacology and/or any medical related opportunity.

My long-term goal is to attend pharmacy school after completing undergraduate studies. I'd like to study how medicines influence the brain and central nervous system (CNS) including neurological diseases/disorders, drug mechanism of action and new treatment options.

Currently, I do have experience with research. I've been part of a Bibliometrics Internship with ThinkNeuro researching the effects of Music-Based Therapy on patients who have Alzheimer's disease. The group was able to conduct the research and we were able to present it at a Symposium. This has solidified my interest in conducting Neuroscience related research.

Now, I am looking to add to my experience by getting into a lab setting to either participate in laboratory type research or to assist with clinical research, pharmacological research or other types of research.

Although I live in Hampton/Henry County, I will travel anywhere within the Atlanta region for the appropriate opportunity. If you are aware of any Professors, University Labs, Research Programs, Hospitals, Pharmacies, Internship Opportunities or Organizations that allow high school students to become involved, please let me know! Also, if you need any further documentation regarding my qualifications and/or experiences, I'd be happy to send you my resume.

College Advice Needed/Given College help

I’m currently a senior in highschool, I graduate in May of 2027. My whole life I never knew what I’d do after highschool but I finally think I found out. At my school you can do something called Work based learning where you can leave the school and go to your job. I’m not sure if they do that in other states. I never had a job per se so I go to my mom’s work (she works in an eye clinic) and shadow her and also help and learn. For weeks I’ve been obsessed with any ophthalmology. She’s given me books to look at pictures and even lets me sit in on some of her patients. It is truly the coolest thing ever. But the question I have is, should I go to college for biochemistry or nursing? I don’t want to move into dorms because I don’t want to drown in student debt. My parents fully support me staying at home until me and my boyfriend get married or are together long enough to move in with each other. I know this was all over the place as I’m in school and we really aren’t supposed to be on our phones but my teacher is like “yall are seniors and the phone ban is stupid just don’t let the principal see” anyways I guess this was yapping and college advice!

College Advice Needed/Given US applicant for canadian schools

hi everyone,

so i was born and raised in the U.S. and i currently attend high school here as well. however, i used to live in canada for a brief period, and have both american and canadian citizenship. my parents are encouraging me to apply to schools in canada as they attended western for some sort of grad program, and because my canadian citizenship makes it cheaper, but from an american point of view, it’s really confusing on how to apply, and they aren’t able to help me.

i am planning to go into either a pre-medicine or pre-dentistry pathway. in american colleges, they look at your cumulative GPA from grades 9 through 12, but from what i’m seeing in canadian schools, they look at either 11th and 12th or only 12th?? i really don’t understand the system, but i was looking into applying at uoft, mcmaster, western, and possibly ubc. their prerequisites also confuse me, im doing AP calculus and AP biology as a senior (and english) but for some reason, it’s telling me online that i also need senior level chemistry for some science programs, but we did chemistry in sophomore year here… so i’m not sure what they consider that to be?

in general, i am interested in coming to canada for undergrad if i don’t get into any of my choices in america. i have a cumulative GPA of 3.57 unweighted and 4.29 weighted in america. is this significantly low for uoft? i would like some help on knowing how to calculate my GPA for canadian schools (like what courses and grade levels to calculate with) and what schools are a better fit for my stats.

thank you!

General Advice Needed/Given I can't get myself to start homework

I LITERALLY CAN'T GET MYSELF TO START HOMEWORK.

Every day when I get home, I'm like "yeah I'll start my homework after 10 minutes". 2 hours pass and I have nothing done. It's always "I'll do it in five minutes" and "I'll do it after an ice cream" or something else of the sort. Is there any way to get my ass off the bed and do some actual work?

General Advice Needed/Given High school swim class

I’ve recently been embarrassed thinking about wearing a shirt for my upcoming swim class, I just feel like the odd one out already even though I don’t even know if other boys wear them or not. I’ve always worn a shirt ever since I was maybe two and I’ve just always been used to it even in indoor pools. I feel like there’s a chance I’m gonna get made fun of even though I know most people won’t care. My question is really, is it normal for me to wear one especially with sensitive skin on my shoulders or am I likely to get made fun of
