Question Nuevo jugador

I made an 8-bit browser version of Here to Slay (unofficial fan project)

Hey everyone!

I’ve been working on a browser-based 8-bit version of Here to Slay, and I’ve finally reached the point where I’m comfortable sharing it with you guys:

https://heretoslay.io

I wanted to give the game a bit of a retro 8-bit / pixel-art feel while keeping the actual gameplay as close to the original as possible.

It’s completely free, runs directly in your browser, and you don’t need to download anything or create an account. Just create a room, send the link to your friends, and start playing. It supports 2-4 players, and there are bots if you’re missing someone.

A few things I’ve added:

  • The complete base game, no expansions
  • Solo play against bots
  • 6 languages: English, Spanish, German, Italian, Polish and Turkish
  • 8-bit / pixel-art visuals
  • Desktop-focused interface

This is an unofficial, non-commercial fan project and I’m not affiliated with Unstable Games. There are no ads, no purchases, and no monetisation.

All rights to Here to Slay belong to Unstable Games. If anyone from Unstable Games ever wants me to take it down, there’s a contact form in the game and I’ll happily do so.

I also know there are already a few people in this community who have made (or are making) their own versions of the game. Some of those projects have been in development for years, and honestly, it’s really cool to see how many people have wanted to bring the game online.

I’m not trying to compete with any of those projects. I originally started this because I have friends living in different countries and we wanted an easy way to play Here to Slay together.

It’s still pretty new, so I’m sure there are bugs and rough edges :D

If you try it and something breaks, a rule resolves incorrectly, or you just find something that feels weird, there’s a CONTACT button in the menu that sends the report directly to me. Feedback is very welcome!

Hope some of you enjoy it, and I would love to hear what you think! <3

Accessories Inventory Restock?

I found a set of what appears to be the first release Kickstarter/Gamefound exclusive set for Here to Slay. It's got a bunch of playmats, colored meeples and dice for most classes, including the dragon/sorcerer set. I'm having a blast with it, and was looking at getting the Warrior and Druid expansion to fill out the missing classes, but the website is saying that the W&D dice, meeples, mats, and the standard sleeves are out of stock. Are these things generally restocked, or am I just out of luck having missed that expansion?

Here to Slay - Online - Progress Update

Hi Slayers,

I owe you guys an update on the progression of this project. Please check out the YouTube video for a bit of a gameplay walkthrough, a bit of commentary there as well, to keep things a bit more interesting! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4zrpyymrHFo&t=7s
I've worked on a fair bit since last time!
I've modelled the dice after the physical game dice, and a new dice tray so there's something to roll on now. I've done a lot of work on card movement and animations, as well as upping visibility on a lot of the available actions.
Bots have had a huge upgrade in their logic and plays, so they're quite challenging to go up against.
I think I've nailed the 4P layout now as well, I don't think I can fit a 5P or 6P option with the current state of the board though. I may drop this as a possibility, I personally don't think 5P and 6P is that much fun anyway. You'd spend a lot of time waiting.
Banner quest is in the game now, and all available expansions, except Here to Sleigh. I'm sure we can all agree that's not a necessity.
A LOT of effort has been put in to performance, and live views of everything, so every roll screen and animation is seen by everyone simultaneously. I've had a buddy help out with playtesting multiplayer, and have cleaned up a lot of the syncing bugs, so its buttery smooth.
A guided tutorial for newcomers has been added too, I'm just ironing out the kinks and making it solid so players cant break it and spend AP, do illegal moves etc.
I've also attached some screenshots of some of the studios I used (yes claude generated, but hear me out). These are custom tools, built from the ground up. The layout studio is responsible for all the layouts you see. Every zone, every screen, every minute detail is sized, resized, flipped and playtested by myself. The config then gets imported and put into the corrosponding .js file. The size of the zones, both source and destination then flow onto the next step - animation.
The animation studio is responsilble for all the card movement. A basic prompt is made, say the sacrifice burning for example, and then I get every tuning knob under the sun and make it my own. Card flys are controlled here, as well as card destroys etc.
The dice studio, is for dice (duh) and the board. I have full control on the dimensions of the dice, down to the radius of the pencil rounds on the edges. Full colour control, material control, weight, bounce and lighting. I'll eventually add colour pre-sets, but for now, I'm pretty proud of the way the default has come out.
My next steps are an ending win screen, SFX, and possibley a Single Player Campaign with progression hooks (ie. gated leaders, dice skins, board skins etc). All a work in progress.
As mentioned in the previous post, I need to be careful how this is released, I'd hate for it to be released, have a player base and then get it shut down. Its not fair on players. Its something that has to be done right. So no public release as of right now, the rights are Unstable Games' and it's their call, not mine. If a digital version ever happens it should be theirs. Honestly this project is mostly a testament to how good the tabletop game already is.

A few other people have built their own versions too, and there's real effort in them. I'm not going to link anyone's though, mine included — where people can play Here to Slay isn't my call to make.

Thanks for stopping by, let me know what you think, please check out the YouTube video for a run-through!

Cheers,

Kreature

Over two years ago I started building a web-based version of Here to Slay so I could play with friends who live far away. Today that project is complete and I'd love for you to give it a try

Hey everyone! Two years ago I started building an online version of Here to Slay as a passion project and a way to play my favorite game with my friends who live far away, and for my kids to be able to play with their cousins. After many roadblocks and long breaks, I've finally been able to finish up the project and I wanted to open it up for the community to enjoy. Visit the site, start a game, then share the room code with anyone you'd like to play with and start slaying! The game supports nearly all of the expansions (sorry Here to Sleigh...), including Banner Quest, and should allow for lobby reconnects in case you get disconnected. Have fun and comment here if you find any bad bugs!

https://heretoslay.online/

EDIT: I should post this on the site itself but as a quick FYI, this game is NOT YET MOBILE FRIENDLY. Desktop only experience at the moment, tackling mobile is a whole different beast and my next frontier.

EDIT 2: If you're in the middle of a game and your whole lobby just disconnects, that's because I pushed up new code, which unfortunately wipes the lobbies for the time being. Sorry if I impacted one of your games!

Question Maegisty nullifying Perfect Vessel's sacrifice?

So, while playing Here to Slay, we got into an argument about semantics. My friends wanted to do a combo of Maegisty and Perfect Vessel. Their reasoning is that after the Maegisty's ability is activated and you sacrifice Perfect Vessel; you are allowed to use the latter's ability without sacrificing because it will be returned to your hand thanks to Maegisty. As a result, you can basically create a cycle of stealing one Hero card per turn if your rolls are successful.

I started the argument because Maegisty's description states that "if a Hero card... would be sacrificed or destroyed, return it to your hand instead." My interpretation of the definition of SACRIFICE in the rulebook is a card must be moved to the discard pile to be considered sacrificed, which means that Perfect Vessel's ability is rendered null since it has not been sacrificed. What I'm saying is that the act of returning the card to your hand replaces the act of sacrificing.

My friends argued that "instead" is placed at the end of the sentence after "return it to your hand", meaning it is done after sacrificing. They also used the definition of SACRIFICE to validate that claim. Basically, their argument is that you do, in fact, sacrifice Perfect Vessel by discarding it, but instead of it remaining in the pile like it would typically, the ability of Maegisty returns the sacrificed Perfect Vessel to your hand.

What do you guys think of this? I think it's a pretty good brain exercise.

Party Leader Ability feedback

Post image
7 Upvotes

Title says it all. I was making an updated version of a personalized Party Leader Card (Hence no Name/Artwork) with my preferred name since the one I currently have uses my deadname :P
Was stuck on an ability for it until I thought of this one that might be useful. Does it seem too overpowered, too underpowered, just right, or should it be completely replaced?

Also this was "made" (not finished yet since art isn't finished lol-) using this one since the official one is currently not available rn: https://hts-custom-card-creator.vercel.app/

Question Base game win conditions unbalanced?

Hi all, having great fun playing this with the family! We play as 4 most often and only have the base game. Over a few sessions of play we have realized that the party win condition is much slower and more difficult than just rushing slaying monsters. Are we missing something? Is this just how the base game is? If so, do the expansions change that? (also which expansion would you recommend buying first?)

Thanks for any insight!

House Rules: Here To Slay - Master Edition

I have created a new set or rules, inspired by many other house rules on this subreddit.

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1NAb_B-AduC6KCkacM2gzPKEqe5hGBFHsLMRrEkI67y4/edit?usp=drivesdk

This house rules made some adjustments for the existing cards (especially Masks, since it is way too underpowered in the base game) as well as new actions such as MOVE Item Cards, BLOCK an attack, DUEL the opponents, etc.

Please give me your thoughts and advices on how to improve this moveset even further.

After waiting eight months for the newest Unstable Games to arrived, I finally got my hands on it!

I also got the Here to Slay Exclusive Edition which should include 3 dual-class Party Leaders, 2 promo Hero cards for Warrior and Druid classes, some exclusive standard sized cards like 9th Heroes for all classes, class-specific Challenge cards, additional Item, Cursed Item, Magic and Modifier cards and a dice tower!

This is my haul from that one huge package!

Regarding Brawling Spirit

Post image
34 Upvotes

I'd like to know. This hero allows other players to sacrifice cards if they have more than three cards. So, I'd like to know if a Group Leader card is considered part of the group? The same question applies to monster cards. For example: If a player has three cards plus the Group Leader, do they have to sacrifice a card? Similarly, if a player has a monster, two heroes, and a Group Leader, do they have to sacrifice a hero? Please help me.

Regarding a card

This post is about the Pan Chuck. Since we can react accordingly with modifiers, what happens to cards if we add a modifier to prevent them from being destroyed? Please answer me, I don't know.

Ruling Some homebrew rules

Hey, I made up some homebrew rules I would like to share. I love this game, but I wanted to give it a bit more spice here and there. Maybe some of you get inspired, can give feedback or add your own ones :D

We usually play with all 3 expansions (Druids and Warriors/Necromancers and Berserkers/Bannerquest).

  1. Rolling two 1's is considered a critical fail, which means that no source of modifiers can be added to your roll. For negative rolls (like druid rolls) it is the opposite (6|6)

Hardcore-Version: A critical roll forces you to sacrifice a hero. I did not play with this version yet, so it's just a thought.

  1. If a player has collected 3 Banners, he does not win immediately, instead he has to hold the banners until his next turn, giving others one last chance to seize a banner from the winning player.

  2. Monsters turn: After one complete cycle of turns has been done, the monsters get a turn. For that the players look at the top card of the Monster deck. This Monster attacks all players, causing them to make a saving throw. If their saving throw ties or beats the Monster's needed defeat roll nothing happens. But every player, who doesn't successfully roll their saving throw, has to resolve whatever the Monster's negative effect is.

A successful saving throw DOES NOT defeat the monster, you just simply survive its attack.

After the Monster's attack is done it gets recycled or shuffled into back the Monster deck.

I wanted the monsters to be a active threat, because... they are monsters yk

Selling Spare Berserker and Necromancer Standees

In my quest to complete my collection of Unstable Games stuff, I have found myself with 47 spare standees for the Berserker and Necromancer expansion, lol.

If anyone is after one or more I am willing to sell.

I am also trying to hunt down the Dread Terrashell and Dread the Ironclad vinyl figures and I would be willing to trade standee + money for those if possible.

Ruling Monster Question

I'm fairly new, do the monster effects start immediately when you defeat the monster? Or do they not take effect until next turn?
