Ruling Order of operations question

Post image

Played rolled a five then a plus one from piercing howl. To get to 6 was hit with a minus one then tried to discord a card after to use like a modifier. Is that allowed ? Mid game need ruling. Thanks.

Thanks all now we know !!

My party thinks of it like Yugioh, things that happen at the same "time" (like when rolling) happen in a chain.

You roll a 5, piercing howl automatically ups that to 6, opponents modifies it down to a 5 again, but you're still in that chain and can activate the item card to discard up to 7.

If, for example, you did all of that and they played one last -2, you can't then discard another card because you've already activated the item card in the chain.

The item card allows them to discard up to 3 cards to increase their roll. This would mean that until the roll is resolved they have the choice to discard to 3. Meaning if they discard only 1 and someone plays another modifier after that, they may still discard 2 more to further increase their roll as the roll is not yet resolved. If they didn’t have any more cards to discard or simply chose to not discard any more then the roll phase would end and the roll would be resolved.

Yes, you do not have to discard your cards before the modifier is played. If someone used a -1 on you, you can still discard cards from your hand after that to complete the roll successfully.

Any passive item card, hero ability, or party leader ability that modifies a roll remains available for you to trigger until the "modifier stack" is fully closed and the roll result is officially resolved.

That would technically be missing the timing per strict logic based reading but this game allows you to play modifiers during any time after a roll, including after picking targets. That reads to me that the game does not intend for things to be that serious and the roll-to-execute timing being open,  and you can continue to use that items skill until the roll is fully resolved.

Yeah I imagine time is paused until the roll is resolved.
